Full-time: Brighton 2-1 Brentfordpublished at 21:34 6 December 2023

Teenager Jack Hinshelwood's first senior goal helped Brighton come from behind to claim victory over Brentford, who lost top scorer Bryan Mbeumo to injury.
The Bees took the lead against the run of play when Mbeumo coolly slotted home a 27th-minute penalty after Jan Paul van Hecke fouled Vitaly Janelt.
But Brighton only trailed for four minutes as Pascal Gross struck a fierce drive past Mark Flekken, before Mbeumo departed with a leg injury shortly afterwards.
Hinshelwood, 18, came to the fore early in the second half as he cleared off the line from Yoane Wissa before heading home Gross' lofted cross to give the hosts only their second Premier League win in nine matches.

'I wouldn't put any of Brentford's players in my team' published at 12:02 6 December 2023

Former Brighton player Warren Aspinall spoke about Wednesday's match against Brentford on the Albion Unlimited podcast: "If Brentford beat us and if other teams around us [win], we could be in the bottom half of the league. I think we need six points from these next two games - and I think we'll get six points.
"They have been a bit hit and miss on the road if I'm honest. I think we need to take six points in the next two games but it is going to be hard because of the squad.
"Look at their side. They have lost their goalkeeper and I'm not too sure about Mark Flekken who has come in. Neal Maupay - is he going to play? If he does, we know about him. I think their best player is [Bryan] Mbuemo. If you let him run at you, he causes problems and they have good movement off him.
"Would I put any of their players in my team? No I wouldn't. We have to go and stamp our authority on the game. Be on the front foot, take the game to them and be ruthless in the final third."
BBC Radio Sussex commentator Johnny Cantor on the Bees: "They have their own injury problems. Arguably there is an XI of injured players. They will probably switch to a back three because Christian Norgaard is out.
"But they have coped really well. Ivan Toney scored 20 Premier League goals last season but they don't seem to have missed him . I agree with Warren - Mbuemo is excellent so hopefully he doesn't do very well.
"They do seem to have a good record against the Albion, but they are a bit hit and miss really."
Brighton v Brentford: Sutton's predictionspublished at 11:57 6 December 2023

Chris Sutton is making predictions for all 380 Premier League matches again this season, against a variety of guests.
This week, he takes on CBeebies presenter Rhys Stephenson.
Sutton's prediction: 2-2
Brighton have only won one of their eight league matches and Sunday's defeat by Chelsea must have been very frustrating after the Blues went down to 10 men just before half-time.
This could be another awkward game for the Seagulls too. Brentford took four points from Brighton last season and I can see them making life difficult for Roberto de Zerbi's team again.
The Bees will sit in and counter-attack well, and I can see them getting some reward.

Having won their first two Premier League games against Brentford in 2021-22, Brighton failed to beat the Bees in either league meeting last season (D1 L1).
Brentford have won just two of their past nine away league games against Brighton (D2 L5), beating them in the Championship in January 2015 (1-0) and September 2016 (2-0).
Brighton are unbeaten in their past five Premier League home games, with each of the past three ending in a draw (W2). The Seagulls most recently drew four consecutive home league games in October/November 2017.
Brentford have scored at least twice in all five of their Premier League victories this season, failing to win any of their seven games when not scoring multiple goals (D2 L5).
Bryan Mbeumo has been involved in 14 goals in his past 17 Premier League appearances, scoring nine and assisting five. This accounts for half of Brentford’s 28 goals scored in that run.
Evan Ferguson has scored seven goals in his past eight Premier League home games for Brighton. Since the start of this run in May, it is more than twice as many goals as the next highest scorer at Amex Stadium has (Simon Adingra, 3).
Frank on injuries, 'favourites' Brighton and 'go-to-guy' Mbeumopublished at 15:51 5 December 2023
15:51 5 December 2023
Thomas Frank has been speaking to the media before Brentford's Premier League match against Brighton on Wednesday.
Here are the key lines from his news conference:
Frank confirmed that Kristoffer Ajer will not be available for the match, while Mathias Jensen is "touch and go", but Mikkel Damsgaard returns for the first time since August.
On injuries, he said: "Like with everything we go under the radar. We have had key players out for long periods of the season. It's big credit to the players who are available. I'm very proud of the players, the culture, and the hard work the staff put in to put us in a position."
Asked about the 3-3 draw with Brighton in April, he said: "I'd prefer to win, but 3-3 would probably be my second choice - that would be a great game for everyone involved."
He added: "I look forward to this game against Brighton, the way they play. Of course there will be spells we need to defend well. It's always difficult, they're probably favourites but we believe we can go there and do something."
On Bryan Mbeumo's impact, he said: "Bryan has been very good for us. He's taken the lead in terms of being the go-to guy with the goals, assists, and offensive actions. His work rate is incredible."
Asked about Saman Ghoddos' role in the team, he said: "Our go-to-guy, I don't think he's played centre-back yet, but every other position. He's ready, committed, fantastic for the group."

'An unnecessary problem for the trip to Brighton'published at 09:22 5 December 2023
Christian Norgaard's fifth booking of the season on Saturday, for supposedly taking too long over a throw-in, has added an unnecessary problem into Thomas Frank’s planning for Wednesday’s trip to Brighton.
The suspension of his captain, as well as the likely absence of defender Kristoffer Ajer, who failed to finish the pre-match warm-up against Luton because of a foot injury, means Frank is without a complete set of outfield players against the Seagulls (all injured unless stated):
Despite the ongoing injury problems, Brentford turned in a good performance to get back on the winning track against Luton on Saturday. The Bees had followed a three-match winning run with defeats by Liverpool and Arsenal so this was an important victory.
Three players who had recently returned from injury played a part, with Ben Mee and Shandon Baptiste, with his first home goal, scoring and Keane Lewis-Potter getting an assist.
The opening goal came from Neal Maupay, who continued to show that he is a player reborn since rejoining the Bees. This was his second goal to add to two assists. Despite that, I think he is unlikely to start against his former club Brighton as I expect Frank to revert to a 3-5-2 formation, which will mean Maupay will be among the substitutes.
Last season's game was a 3-3 thriller, and with the Seagulls having scored and conceded in each of their past 19 Premier League matches, a repeat could be on the cards.

Your thoughts on Saturday's matchpublished at 11:55 4 December 2023
11:55 4 December 2023
We asked for your thoughts on Saturday's game between Brentford and Luton Town.
Here are some of your comments:
Brentford fans
Alastair: In the first half, it looked as if it was going to be one of those days. After half-time, the Bees came out strong and played some of the best football I have seen this season. Neal Maupay was a real pest to the Luton defence and he has the skill to be in the right place at the right time. Ben Mee and Ethan Pinnock were immense in defence all game. There were inspired substitutes by Frank again.
Will: Scrappy game. It was just a relief to win in the cold. I thought Saman Ghoddos was particularly classy. Bryan Mbeumo is always dangerous. Christian Norgaard was immense in defence.
Brian: Considering the amount of injuries and the size of the squad that we have, Thomas Frank always fields a well organised team. Credit to the players and the coaches.
Agent: I thought we had forgotten how to score in the first half. However, thankfully, Frank pulled everyone together at half-time and we came out to win. Well done Brentford - sometimes it’s hard being a supporter but I never lose the faith.
Luton fans
Steve: Injuries at the back really dictated the line-up and our start, but credit to the players, they gave it a real go after the second goal. Rob Edwards just needs to be braver setting us up as we have two huge games against the best teams the Premier League has to offer up next.
Mark: I'm not sure what our strategy was in the first half? Was it to defend deep and pass our way through Brentford? That was not likely to work. All three Brentford goals had an element of good fortune about them, but that's the luck you make by constantly being in the opposition half. We looked good in the final 20 minutes, as soon as we started to move the ball, but it was too late.
Jabal: This was the current play-off winners v the play-off winners from two years ago. Facing Brentford at home, a team who have beaten the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool, can you really blame Luton for losing? No, but we really need to solve our scoring calamity. Other than that, it was a good performance.
Sue: First half, job done. Second half, the injury to Tom Lockyer left us weaker at the back. Their two goals came while we were still shaping up. Once we got into our game, we looked good on the counter-attack. They definitely looked a bit less confident after our goal. We certainly aren't getting whipped, so we just need to keep playing the way we are. The points will add up.

Brentford 3-1 Luton Town: What Frank saidpublished at 18:08 2 December 2023
18:08 2 December 2023
Brentford manager Thomas Frank speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "Very deserved, it was a very good performance in many ways. We had a plan for the Arsenal game a week ago and it was a different plan for Luton today.
"Until their goal, we were very dominant. With the amount of injuries we have, we basically have our four full-backs out, it was great.
"When you are dominating a game, if you keep the tempo and intensity up, that is difficult to defend against and we did that very well."
On Kristoffer Ajer's injury: "Ajer is OK. We knew he had an issue with his foot, so we were prepared with a substitute."
On Shandon Baptiste scoring his first goal in two years: "I'm so happy for Shandon. He has been unlucky with injuries but he helped the team today, so I'm pleased for that."
On whether he agrees with Christian Norgaard getting booked for time-wasting: "Absolutely the wrong decision. He had the ball in his hands for just eight seconds.
"I'm all for getting a quicker game. We did a routine, we time our routines, they are very consistent, so that was the wrong decision."
Analysis: Brentford 3-1 Lutonpublished at 17:53 2 December 2023
17:53 2 December 2023
Bobbie Jackson, BBC Sport
After a tough double-header against Arsenal and Liverpool - both ending in defeat - Brentford made full use of their opportunity to get back on track at the expense of Luton.
The Hatters' approach, sitting deep and slowing the game down, would not have come as a surprise to Brentford but the Bees struggled to break them down in a forgettable first half.
Luton's resolve was eventually broken early after the restart as Neal Maupay pounced from close range and Ben Mee doubled Brentford's advantage shortly after.
Trailing 2-0, Luton had to venture forward and they set up a potentially nervy finish when Jacob Brown scored.
However, Shandon Baptiste was the unlikely hero, scoring his first goal in two years, when he re-established Brentford's two-goal cushion in the closing stages.
It was far from pretty but the three points count all the same for Thomas Frank's men as they turn their attention to a midweek trip to Brighton.
Brentford 3-1 Luton Town: Key statspublished at 17:30 2 December 2023
17:30 2 December 2023
Brentford have won seven of their last nine league games against Luton (L2).
Luton have failed to win their last 18 top-flight away games in London (D3 L15), since a 2-1 victory against Wimbledon in February 1990, losing their last four in a row.
Neal Maupay has either scored (2) or assisted (1) in three of his four Premier League home games for Brentford, as many goal involvements as in his previous 32 games in the competition for Everton and Brighton (three goals).
Brentford had 27 attempts on goal against Luton, their highest tally in a Premier League game. The Bees also took 19 shots from inside the box, their most in a single game in the competition.
Despite coming on in the 78th minute, Brentford’s Keane Lewis-Potter had the most shots in the match (5). The last substitute to play fewer than 30 minutes and have more than five attempts in a Premier League game was Aleksandar Mitrovic for Newcastle United against Norwich in April 2016 (6).
Brentford 3-1 Luton Town: What Maupay saidpublished at 17:20 2 December 2023
17:20 2 December 2023
Brentford goalscorer Neal Maupay speaking to Sky Sports: "It was very important [to win] after we had two tough games against Arsenal and Liverpool. It shows the character of the team, today was a tough game because we were expected to win. Luton are good, they work hard.
"The key word at half-time was patience, keep pushing and keep playing well. We knew the more we put pressure on them, the chances would come. A lot of teams can work hard for 45 minutes but the longer it goes on the chances start to come. We had to stick to the plan and that's what we did.
"It was a big moment going ahead and breaking them down so early on in the second half because they have to take the risk to come back into the game, but then we scored a second.
"They had a couple of chances so we had to work and fight to the end. It wasn't easy but it was a great feeling to win."
On scoring his second goal of the season: "That's where I score my goals. If I'm more than six yards away, I can't score. 90% of my goals are in the six yard box, so that's where I have to be."

Brentford returned to winning ways with a deserved victory against Premier League strugglers Luton.
Neal Maupay put the Bees in front early in the second half when he prodded in from close range after Ben Mee scuffed a shot.
Mee didn't have to wait long to get his name on the scoresheet, as his header just seven minutes later put Brentford firmly in the driving seat.
Jacob Brown gave Luton hope by halving the hosts' lead, but Shandon Baptiste calmed Brentford's nerves by restoring the two-goal cushion.
In almost an exact repeat of Luton's meeting with Crystal Palace last Saturday, there was a distinct lack of goalmouth action early on at both ends of the field at Gtech Community Stadium.
Tha drabness was summed up by the fact Hatters goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski was shown a yellow card for time-wasting in the 38th minute.
Brentford's Yegor Yarmolyuk went closest to scoring for either side before the break when his low shot was deflected narrowly wide by Luton's Carlton Morris.
But the Bees, who dominated possession without creating enough in the first period, came out with more purpose in the second period and were given an extra boost as Luton captain Tom Lockyer failed to re-emerge after sustaining an injury.
Luton had to wait until the 61st-minute to register their first attempt on or off target in the game, substitute Brown firing a speculative effort wide of goal.
Brown showed greater accuracy 15 minutes later with his second shot, Luton's first on target, when he latched on to a beautiful defence-splitting ball from Ross Barkley before driving low past Mark Flekken.
Brentford's Baptiste, scoring his first goal since December 2021, wrapped up the points with just under 10 minutes remaining when he reacted quickest to convert after Keane Lewis-Potter's shot was parried into his path.

Frank on Jensen and Damsgaard injuries, Luton and key man Pinnockpublished at 15:39 1 December 2023
15:39 1 December 2023
Josh Lobley, BBC Sport
Thomas Frank has been speaking to the media before Brentford's match against Luton on Saturday.
Here's what he had to say:
Frank says Mathias Jensen will not be available for tomorrow's match while fellow Dane Mikkel Damsgaard is getting close to a return.
Reflecting on last weekend's defeat to Arsenal, Frank said: "I think we played a very good game. We kept them to two chances, one of them they scored from. Offensively I think we were fine, but still managed to create two big moments in the game."
On this weekend's opponents, Frank said: "It will be a completely different challenge [to Arsenal]. We are two clubs similar in history. I expect us to be more dominant in spells, but I expect an equal level of challenge, just in a different approach."
Frank highlighted some of Luton's strengths by saying: "I see a team that work very hard, are very good at crossing and arriving in the box. They are defending very well but also want to press high at spells."
Frank said the Hatters have a "fantastic story" in terms of their route to the Premier League, adding: "They have impressed me. They are the one with the smallest budget and stadium so they are very similar to our journey. Rob Edwards and his team have done a top job."
On the latest VAR controversy, Frank said "No matter what we do, we can't have a no-mistake game, it's impossible. Even my fantastic players make mistakes sometimes. It's about how we can be as consistent as possible."
Thomas Frank expects Ethan Pinnock to be key against Luton, who top the crossing stats in the Premier League. He said: "The whole team will do their best to stop the crosses, but on the day it will be down to Ethan and Ben Mee, who are two of the best defensive defenders in the league, but Ethan is crucial."
On Michael Olakigbe's contract extension, Frank said. "He deserves credit for working hard. There wasn't a plan that he was going to train with us every session, but he's been training with us every session and that's down to him."

Brentford v Luton: Sutton's predictionspublished at 13:53 1 December 2023
13:53 1 December 2023
Chris Sutton is making predictions for all 380 Premier League matches again this season, against a variety of guests.
This week, he takes on All Elite Wrestling (AEW) star Claudio Castagnoli.
Sutton's prediction: 2-0
Luton are showing such good resilience at the moment, and I was impressed by the way they won such a tight game with Crystal Palace last week.
So, fair play to Hatters boss Rob Edwards, because his team are proving a lot of people wrong.
Even so, I still fancy Brentford here. We know how streetwise they are and also how strong they are at home - they were unfortunate to lose to Arsenal last time out, and they should bounce back here.
