  1. Brentford v Luton Town: Pick of the statspublished at 15:04 29 November 2023

    • Brentford have won five of their past six league games against Luton Town, including home and away victories the last time the sides met in the 2020-21 Championship campaign.

    • Luton have won just one of their past 37 top-flight away games against London sides (D9 L27), beating Wimbledon 2-1 in February 1990. They’ve lost both visits to the capital this season without scoring.

    • The Bees have won their past five Premier League home games against promoted sides, since losing 2-1 against Norwich City in November 2021.

    • Only James Ward-Prowse (21) has created more chances from set-pieces than Luton’s Alfie Doughty this season (16). Meanwhile, of players with at least 20 chances created, only Ward-Prowse (70%) has created a higher share from set-pieces than Brentford’s Mathias Jensen (65%).

There was a sense of pride, but also frustration, among us Brentford fans at full-time against Arsenal on Saturday.

Pride at how well we had played against one of the biggest clubs in the country with a patched-up side, which because of injury featured no recognised full-backs and was missing its most creative midfielder.

Frustration that despite the best efforts of everyone, we had lost out on a deserved point thanks to a last-gasp goal.

One reason was our consistently long injury list, which has affected the matchday squad’s strength in depth.

While Shandon Baptiste and Keane Lewis-Potter both returned to the bench after injury, and came on as late substitutes, Mathias Jensen and Mads Roerslev were ruled out instead.

The last 10 minutes of the match felt like last month’s game at Manchester United, where having scored midway through the first half, we lost to goals in the 93rd and 97th minute.

On both occasions, it felt like we were running out of steam in the closing stages and that is clearly down to the lack of experienced options among the substitutes.

Thomas Frank is usually very good at bringing on the right players at the right time to give us fresh legs and to close out games, but for large parts of this campaign, his options have been severely restricted.

To be where we are after 13 games is a huge credit to both him and the players, but we need more bodies back and quickly for a busy December.

We asked for your thoughts on Saturday's match between Brentford and Arsenal.

Here are some of your comments:

    Brentford fans

Laavoh: Great effort by our team until the end. That's football, we move on to the next game.

DCBees: Gutted for (what remains of) the squad. Played their hearts out, but Arsenal did what a contender needs to do, which is find a way. Arteta is going to be one of the greats by the time he's finished.

    Arsenal fans

Tom: Ponderous at times but Arsenal are efficient. Solid in the back line with potential up front. When they begin to fire on all cylinders they will be hard to beat.

Demi: Perfect result lads. We might not have played at our best but we had the desire to win. Saka at his finest again and Havertz is now motivated.

Terry: Plenty to learn from this match. Reasonable defending but unimaginative in the final third. Arsenal with all their possession must move the ball much quicker and not stand around looking lifeless. Fortunate to come away with the points but that's football.

Rachel: So we're top of the league - fantastic. But I'm left with a bitter taste in my mouth and it's the dismissive way that Arteta treated Aaron Ramsdale. He deserves more respect. Suddenly I don't like Arteta as much and I am struggling to rediscover my total support for him.

  4. 'You have to earn it when coming to Brentford'published at 08:01 27 November 2023

Former Brentford midfielder Steve Sidwell was full of praise for the Bees' performance against Arsenal on Saturday, despite conceding late to lose 1-0.

Thomas Frank's side limited the Gunners for much of the game but were undone by substitute Kai Havertz's late header.

"The atmosphere that's created, the environment, the culture in this stadium that's created even before the game gets everyone onside," Sidwell told the Football Daily podcast.

"When the whistle goes like we've seen today, they're on the front foot, they're aggressive, they're pressing.

"When they get on that front foot normally when they create chances they find the net.

"When you look at Brentford's model, the way the club is run, it's fantastic. We know that.

"Where they've come from is a great story. They're still going to be underdogs when they come up against the likes of Arsenal but they put everyone to the sword for 90 minutes plus. You have to earn it, especially coming to this stadium, and to be fair to Arsenal they earned it."
