I'm so glad I'm not a racing driver! Your body is exploding with adrenaline and you have to be able to control these emotions and feelings. Your heart rate is up there and you're trying to breath so you don't get too excited. And then you have to remember the procedure!

  6. Postpublished at 17:33 British Summer Time 3 May

It will be a standing start for the sprint race!

  7. Team radio - Red Bull to Verstappenpublished at 17:31 British Summer Time 3 May

    Engineer: "How are the conditions?"

    Verstappen: "OK. Raceable."

It doesn't look as bad. There is spray but a lot of water has drained from the track in the time we have been waiting to get away again. The race director will be listening to what the drivers have to say on the team radio.

The cars are back out and it's certainly looking a lot drier on the circuit, although there's still a bit of spray!

  10. Team radio - Haas to Oconpublished at 17:28 British Summer Time 3 May

Engineer: "There is no more rain expected currently."

    Ocon: "Might finish on slicks."

The drivers are suited and booted and back in their cars.

It will be two laps behind the safety car before a decision is made whether to have a standing or rolling start.

  12. 'Waiting game now'published at 17:27 British Summer Time 3 May

Andy Cowell, Aston Martin team principal, has been speaking to Jennie Gow: "The rain that has come down is quite heavy, and the visibility and the grip levels are pretty bad at the moment, so it's a waiting game now.

"There is a little bit of blue sky up there and it has brightened up - but how long will it take for the track to dry. I've never had rain here before, so we're all looking at the weather radar and trying to work out what's going to happen.

The drivers might not go behind the safety car for this one because I'm starting to see what looks like less wet bits outside our commentary window. So in other words, not shiny, puddly bits. It's starting to get that matted look to it. The track is draining if it's not drying.

A glance outside the commentary box and the rain has just eased off - but the track is incredibly wet. We've had two laps behind the safety car where visibility has been the biggest complaint of all 19 drivers that remain in this one.

Pole sitter Kimi Antonelli is currently under an umbrella with his race engineer Peter Bonnington.

These are not the easiest conditions to start your first Formula 1 race in pole position, but let's see what the youngster can do.

  17. Discussions on the pit wallpublished at 17:15 British Summer Time 3 May

    Damon Hill
1996 world champion on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra in Miami

The drivers will all be chatting to their engineers now; we're just watching Fernando Alonso walking out looking classically casual - he's seen this a million times - but even he is going over to the pit wall to talk to the engineers.

They want to get absolutely clear what the procedure is: are they going to refuel for race distance? There might be a discussion about that.

  18. Busy pit lanepublished at 17:12 British Summer Time 3 May

The pit lane is a sea of drivers and engineers.

Well I wouldn't have guessed this is how the Miami sprint race was going to start.

Go grab yourself a cup of tea while we wait!

It feels so humid now, it seems to be a bit warmer - it's certainly not raining at the moment. But you can't believe the hive of activity that descends on the pit lane as soon as that red flag is out.

  20. Cars back in the pit lanepublished at 17:08 British Summer Time 3 May

All the drivers make their way back to the pit lane as they wait to hear if and when the sprint race might get going!

A wipe of their helmet visors might be in need I reckon...
