The green intermediate tyre is still the compound of choice for third practice with more rain on the horizon. Over at RB, Daniel Ricciardo has been noted by the stewards for a pit lane infringement.
George Russell, meanwhile, radios Mercedes to say the track is definitely trying now.

After a brief pause to the action on track, the green light has lit up at the end of the pit lane and Oscar Piastri and Lewis Hamilton are the first two cars to head out on to the circuit, quickly followed by Charles Leclerc and the Red Bull of Max Verstappen.

The hardest compounds in the Pirelli range are the only tyres that are up to the job of tackling the high-speed nature of the Silverstone circuit. Teams can choose from the C1 (hard, white), C2 (medium, yellow) and the C3 (soft, red).
The green intermediate tyre (being used right now) and the blue full wets are also on hand.
The majority of drivers during last year's dry British Grand Prix opted for a one-stop strategy, with the mediums being the most commonly used tyre across the field. The soft compound did make an appearance in the 52-lap race, however, with all only teams choosing not to use them.

Pierre Gasly had no chance of stopping that slide from the rear of his Alpine. The Frenchman is safely away from the car and is heading to the safety of the crowds watching on.

Max Verstappen has reached Copse corner and is trying to get some temperature into those green intermediate tyres. The three-time world champion is testing the limit on the slippery surface and ends up doing a small spin in the Red Bull.
I'm expecting another Norris versus Verstappen battle, wet or dry, they are both terrific in the wet so let's hope we get some track action this morning.
The teams are going to be guarding their intermediate and wet tyres because of the limited allocation.
They may not be that keen to go out at the beginning on what is still a damp track.

Coats went on and hoods were put up at the conclusion of second practice as the conditions turned wet around the former airfield.
Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg said he'll be ready for the rain "whether I like it or not" but added he loves Silverstone in the dry, saying: "It's fascinating, the speeds we are running here".

The rain arrived right at the end of second practice but Lando Norris had already banked his quickest lap time of 1:26.549 on the soft tyre before the conditions changed.
Oscar Piastri shook off his first practice troubles to make it a McLaren one-two at the top of the timesheets, finishing his run three tenths off his team-mate. Sergio Perez came home in third and the Haas of Nico Hulkenberg was a surprise fourth.
Reigning world champion Max Verstappen ended his hour in the unfamiliar territory of seventh place, although the race simulations at the end of the session suggested the Dutchman and Norris will be closely matched once again.

Oliver Bearman, fresh from signing a multi-year deal with Haas this week, was the highest of the F2 drivers to take part in first practice on Friday, ending his session in 14th place sitting in for Kevin Magnussen.
Jack Doohan in the Alpine and Franco Colopinto for Williams finished 17th and 18th respectively, while Red Bull junior driver Isack Hadjar had to give the international signal for 'whoops, that was my fault, sorry' to Lando Norris after the 19-year-old's near-miss with the McLaren at the end of the hour.

The weather was grim, albeit with no rain, but at least the crowds got to see a British driver top the timesheets in the opening hour of running at Silverstone yesterday.
Lando Norris set the pace with a time of 1:27.420, bringing his McLaren home 0.134 seconds ahead of the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with team-mate Oscar Piastri in third spot.
While the quickest three set their best markers on the soft tyre, fourth-placed Max Verstappen was a medium runner, as was Mercedes' George Russell in fifth.
Piastri's first practice wasn't all plain sailing, however, as the Australian came to a stop at the pit entry with a hydraulics failure.
There was also one red flag during the session, brought out for the RB Yusi Tsunoda after the Japanese driver spun at Luffield and ended up beached in the gravel.

Last week's Austrian Grand Prix winner George Russell has arrived at Silverstone, sans brolly, wearing his retro England shirt in support of the national team today.
Does he remember that baking hot summer 28 years ago when England were agonisingly beaten by Germany in the semi-finals of Euro 96 at Wembley?
Nope. Mr Russell wasn't born until 1998.
While we wait for third practice to start, let's have a look back at what happened on Friday...
