Valtteri Bottas is the closest to safety out of the bottom five in Q1. The Finn has reached Maggotts and Becketts and navigates the tricky section with ease, finally bringing his Sauber home with a 1:31.431 to go top of the timesheets.
The clouds hanging over Silverstone are looking very angry. Cars are exiting the pit lane but it's a race against the rain now to try and get a lap in.

Not good signs for Ferrari who really needed that upgrade to work for them because they really had joined the fight at the front and actually in the last couple of races since that introduction they've just dropped away.
Carlos Sainz was down in the bottom five but jumps his Ferrari up to ninth fastest. Nico Hulkenberg and Kevin Magnussen, meanwhile, are the only two drivers without a time on the board.
Slicks are on for Sainz's team-mate Charles Leclerc.
