  6. Tyre talkpublished at 11:35 British Summer Time 20 July

Pirelli has selected the softest tyres in the range for this weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix - the same compounds as the 2023 race. Teams can choose from the C3 (white, hard), C4 (yellow, medium) and the C5 (red, soft).

A two-stop race strategy was favoured last year, with the mediums and the hards being the most popular choices to start on. Ferrari opted to place Carlos Sainz, who started in P11, on the softs for lights out and the Spaniard was able to move up the field to sixth spot on the opening lap.

Lando Norris felt McLaren had a "good day" after he topped second practice on Friday.

He added: "Definitely a bit more work to do to be more comfortable. I feel like we have the speed in the car; it’s just being able to deliver it when you need to."

Over at Mercedes, while the car struggled in the hot conditions, George Russell thinks the team "will be in the mix for the top four" but feels Norris is the driver to beat.

“Lando was looking really quick," said Russell. "I don’t think Max is too far behind. I think there was probably a power difference between those two on the qualifying laps.

“And then race run, Lando and Max again look a little bit out in front."

For Red Bull, Verstappen said the team had "a good day" with their upgrade package.
