Oscar Piastri took his maiden grand prix victory in a McLaren one-two ahead of Lando Norris in a dramatic race in Hungary amid a heated row over team orders.

Behind them, in a race full of see-sawing action, old rivals Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen collided as they disputed third place.

Both continued but Hamilton held on to third and the Red Bull driver, his race full radio messages peppered with swearing, dropped back to finish fifth behind Ferrari's Charles Leclerc.

McLaren’s team orders controversy unfolded as they tried to manage their way to a one-two, their first since the 2021 Italian Grand Prix.

McLaren are inching closer to title leaders Red Bull in the constructors' championship with a one-two in Hungary, while Lando Norris, despite today's team orders drama, has made steps towards challenging Max Verstappen for the drivers' crown.

Lewis Hamilton is chatting to Sky Sports and the Mercedes driver says he thinks it was a racing incident between himself and reigning world champion Max Verstappen.

"I think ultimately, he much quicker and he sent," says Hamilton. "I moved a little bit to defend and I left enough space on the inside and he locked up and then obviously couldn't turn. So he came under a different trajectory and clipped my wheel."

Max Verstappen finished in fifth and the incident involving Lewis Hamilton is being investigated with the stewards, he told Sky Sports afterwards: "I went for a move that was fully on but when I was in the middle of the breaking zone and already committed, [Hamilton] he keeps on warping right. If I hadn't turned while breaking straight, I would have made contact with him."

On the back and forth radio messages with his engineer, he said: "I don't know why people think that you can't be vocal on a radio, this is a sport and if some people don't like that then stay home."

Max Verstappen is off to the stewards soon to see if he faces any punishment from his contact with Lewis Hamilton towards the end of the Hungarian Grand Prix.

The Dutchman's radio messages were a fiery delight today, with this one being a particular favourite after a comment from his engineer, Gianpiero Lambiase.

"No, mate. Don't give me any of that ****. You guys gave me this **** strategy, OK?

"I'm trying to rescue what's left, *****!"

"Would Max Verstappen have done that?" Sky Sports' Simon Lazenby asks Naomi Schiff and Nico Rosberg about Lando Norris letting Oscar Piastri through for the win. "100% not!" is the emphatic reply from 2016 world champion Rosberg.

Lando Norris spoke to Sky Sports after the race and delved more into how it felt swapping positions with his team-mate Oscar Piastri, he said: "It was tough, it would be tough for anyone leading a race to give it up. I was put in the position, they made me box for and gave me the chance to lead the race and pull away comfortably.

"It was fair to give back, I don't want to be the guy who comes across unfair, Oscar has helped me in many races. He drove a better race than I did, he got a better start, he deserves it and it's the right thing to do."

It's his first F1 win, so naturally, Oscar Piastri was keen to keep this precious trophy safe from Lando Norris' signature bottle bang.

The champagne spray to the ear must've hurt Lando.

"I don't want to come across as a guy that's not fair," says Lando Norris to Sky Sports. "Oscar has done a lot for me in the past and helped in many races."

Norris adds that Piastri got a better start and his from pole position "sucked."

While eyes are fixed over at McLaren camp, it's easy for Lewis Hamilton's achievement of 200 podiums in Formula 1 to be overlooked.

Oscar Piastri's mum, Nicole, has written on X, formerly Twitter:, external "6am Pilates just cancelled", with a champagne bottle emoji.

The Hungarian Grand Prix winner joins Daniel Ricciardo, Mark Webber (his manager), Alan Jones and Jack Brabham as the fifth Australian to secure a Formula 1 victory.

As we mentioned earlier, McLaren are now above Ferrari in the constructors' championship after a one-two in Hungary. Red Bull's advantage is also dropping, with the leaders just 51 points ahead of the papaya team.

Lando Norris has cut Max Verstappen leads at the top of the drivers' championship to 76 points following his second place at the Hungarian Grand Prix.

The win for Oscar Piastri keeps the Australian in fifth spot, while Lewis Hamilton's podium finishes lifts the Mercedes driver above team-mate George Russell and Sergio Perez, who is now seventh in the standings.

Lewis Hamilton, who finished third and takes his 200th F1 podium: “Big thanks to this amazing crowd and a huge congratulations to the McLarens with the one-two, that’s my old original family so it’s great to see.

“For us, the team have done a great job at pushing this car ultimately, we didn’t have the pace of the McLarens or of the Red Bulls but we were just able to hold on at the beginning of the race, it was very tough to hold on and make those tyres last.

“The close battle we had at the end was a bit hair-raising but that’s motor racing. I’m really happy and grateful for the points. A big thank you to the team.”

On the battle with Max Verstappen: “It’s not nerve-wracking when you see the pace at which they close the gap on corners you just laugh to yourself because it’s not something I can do, particularly on the last sector they were very very strong, same as the McLarens.

“I saw him coming from a long way back and he was able to brake a lot later than me, but he sent it up the inside, I stayed still and he clipped the wheel and went over, so I think a racing incident.”

On the race winner: Congratulations to Oscar who has done an fantastic job ever since he got here to be honest. He’s been so consistent and it was only a matter of time before he got a win.”

Lando Norris who finished second at the Hungarian Grand Prix: "An amazing day for us as a team. That's the main thingI'm so happy. It's been a long journey to achieve this on merit. ThAT'S exactly what we did We're a long way clear of the rest and we did it in style.

"Oscar had a good start, he got me off the line and he controlled the race well. He was coming at some point and he deserved it today."

On letting Piastri pass: "The team asked me to do it so I did it.

On the rest of the season and the championship: "For sure, definitely as the constructors, two good drivers and an amazing team. It's still a difficult, long way to go. Spa can change completely, we'll keep pushing."

McLaren's Oscar Piastri, who takes his maiden Formula 1 win: “Very very special, this is the day I’ve dreamed of as a kid standing on the top step of an F1 podium. A bit complicated at the end but I put myself in the right position at the start and thank you for the team for an amazing car.

“It’s a hell of a lot of fun racing with McLaren so I can’t thank them enough for giving me the opportunity to be in F1, and to be winning with them 18 months in is an incredible feeling.”

On the car’s performance: “It’s a beast at the moment, it’s fast in every condition, today we had it under control completely, it was an amazing feeling to be able to manage the race like that with both cars and secure a one-two.

“I’m incredibly happy for the whole team and get my first win on the board.”

On the team’s orders at the end and if Lando Norris was going to let him past: “The longer you leave it of course you get a bit nervous, but it was well executed by the team, it was the right thing, I put myself in the right position at the start.

“With the different strategy we had, yes my pace probably wasn’t as quick as I would have liked in the last stint but I was still in the right position to make it happen.”

Andrea Stella says no-one can go it alone in the championship. "That's the message we discussed on Sunday morning," the McLaren team principal adds to Sky Sports.

Let's have a look at what the top three drivers made of that eventful race.

The one-two for McLaren at the Hungaroring means they jump above Ferrari in the constructors' championship and into second place.
