Max Verstappen sees his chance at Turn One and pulls up alongside the Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton. The Dutchman passes at Turn Two but he can't keep hold of the place as he runs wide! The Dutchman suffered a slight lock-up as he tried to gain on Hamilton.

Oscar Piastri, getting closer and closer to his maiden F1 victory (although has won a sprint race in Qatar in 2021), holds a 4.4-second advantage over McLaren team-mate Lando Norris. Lewis Hamilton is sitting in the final podium lace in third spot.
Sergio Perez is on the charge and overtakes Kevin Magnussen for P11.

Out front McLaren are doing a sterling job because right behind them they've got Lewis Hamilton who is not posing enough of a threat.
McLaren have the race in their control, they can dictate the pace, they look look after the tyres and manage their performance because there is no-one fast enough down their neck that is going to cause them any trouble.

Nico Hulkenberg locks up and is overtaken by Fernando Alonco, who has been trying to pass the German for a few laps. Lance Stroll now tries his luck at taking a chunk out of Hulkenberg but the Haas driver stays ahead.
Alonso is is P11, the Hulk is P12 and Stroll stays in 13th place.
