    Calamity Corner?

Scottie Scheffler has birdied the 16th every day!

    Can he complete the set?

  2. 'Players will accept Scheffler brilliance'published at 17:58 British Summer Time

Rory will just tip his hat to Scottie Scheffler today.

I think all the players will just say "Scottie played better than us and there’s nothing we can do".

Hopefully it bodes well that the Americans are peaking now and it will go downhill from here. Ryder Cup is a whole different beast.

Looking at that leaderboard it's looking very US-heavy and a worrying sign in Ryder Cup year. How many points will Scheffler be worth alone?

  5. Another par for Schefflerpublished at 17:56 British Summer Time

    Scheffler -17, Li -10 (15)

Scottie Scheffler can't get his birdie putt to drop from 20 feet but he'll be more than happy with pars from here.

A five-shot advantage over the field with three holes left of a major is what you dream of as a player.

Li Haotong makes three to rejoin the large group at 10 under.

  6. MacIntyre in share of fifthpublished at 17:56 British Summer Time

    MacIntyre -10 (67)

It's par at the last for Robert MacIntyre, who looks like he is going to beat his best finish at The Open.

He's closed out at 10 under and is currently in share of fifth.

His previous best was a tie for sixth, set here at Royal Portrush in 2019.

The Scot clearly enjoys playing in Northern Ireland.

  7. Great birdiepublished at 17:53 British Summer Time

    English -12, Gotterup -12 (16)

That's some two from Harris English on the 16th - the American can really stripe an iron and another sweet strike gets him onto the dancefloor at the tough 16th.

He's still over 40 feet away though but rolls that it for a magical birdie.

  8. 'Would be nice for Rory to finish well'published at 17:50 British Summer Time

    McIlroy -10 (15)

    Catriona Matthew

The crowd here have supported him the whole way around.

It would be nice for him and nice for the crowd to have a good finish.

  9. Birdie for McIlroypublished at 17:50 British Summer Time

    McIlroy -10, Fitzpatrick -9 (15)

A nice drive again and a decent approach to 13 feet from Rory McIlroy results in his fifth birdie of the day and gets him back to 10 under and in a tie for fifth.

There's not been enough of those approach shots, but still with five birdies he's not been too bad at all, but that double bogey in particular on 10 was a massive blow.

A bogey here for Matt Fitzpatrick though after he found the bunker off the tee and just had to splash it out before only just catching the edge of the green with his third.

  10. Postpublished at 17:48 British Summer Time

    Scheffler -17, Li -9 (14)

Scottie Scheffler is three under par for his round today, even with a double bogey on his card.

The champion elect finds the fairway on 15.

  11. Double bogey for Lipublished at 17:43 British Summer Time

    Scheffler -17, Li -9 (14)

Another hole ticked off for Scottie Scheffler, with his five-shot lead remaining intact and just four holes remaining.

Li Haotong's chances of finishing second might have disappeared, though, with a messy double bogey that drops him back to nine under.

  12. Clark finishes as clubhouse leaderpublished at 17:41 British Summer Time

    Clark -11 (65)

A brilliant day from Wyndham Clark comes to a close with a par at the 18th.

He's followed up a 66 yesterday with a 65 today and he finishes his Open at 11 under par and becomes the clubhouse leader.

If not for the brilliance of Scottie Scheffler, he'd have been in with a shout today...

  13. Postpublished at 17:38 British Summer Time

    Scheffler -17, Li -11 (13)

All about staying out of trouble for Scottie Scheffler down the final stretch. No need for heroics, just par your way home and you'll be the champion.

That's exactly what he does on 14, finding the middle of the fairway and then sending his approach safely onto the green.

Li Haotong, on the other hand, is over the back of the green in three.

  14. Parry and Rose tie at seven underpublished at 17:37 British Summer Time

    Rose -7 (69), Parry (67)

Just to box off a couple of English players who have had good final rounds.

Last year's runner-up Justin Rose couldn't match his performance from 2024, but closes out in a share of 17th as it stands

Meanwhile, John Parry, who made an ace at the 13th on Saturday, has carded four under today and he joins Rose in the clubhouse at seven under for the tournament.

  15. MacIntyre misses out on eagle at 17published at 17:35 British Summer Time

    MacIntyre -10 (17)

Dramatic knee-to-the-floor sink from Robert MacIntyre at 17 after his eagle putt just drifts right of the cup.

That came after a behemoth drive, which flushed all the way to the green.

If he'd holed it, he would have gone to 11 under and a share of third.

Instead, he'll tap in to move to 10 under par with one hole to go.

  16. Postpublished at 17:35 British Summer Time

    Matt Gault
BBC Sport NI senior journalist at Royal Portrush

This crowd - still huge in fairness - want a few more birdie roars before McIlroy closes out his championship.

But he just hasn't been able to deliver today. Yesterday's thrill ride would have taken up so much energy and it's led to a Sunday struggle.

  17. 'Not Rory's day'published at 17:34 British Summer Time

    McIlroy -9 (14)

    Catriona Matthew
Captain of Team Europe at the 2019 & 2021 Solheim Cup on BBC Radio 5 Live

    It’s just not his day.

He was out here to try to win it, but that drive and belief to win it has gone and it’s tough to get up for it now.

  18. Miss!published at 17:33 British Summer Time

    McIlroy -9, Fitzpatrick -10 (13)

Oh no! Finally, probably for the first time today, Rory McIlroy has jammed one in close as he stuck an approach from 141 yards to just six feet.

But he misses the birdie putt! It slides by the right edge to huge groans from the crowd who thought for all money that he'd sink that and then go on to give them a grandstand finish.

    Not to be I'm afraid.

  19. Postpublished at 17:30 British Summer Time

    English -11, Gotterup -12 (14)

Chris Gotterup left himself just under 170 yards for his second shot but was a mile away with his approach so had to settle for a par in the end.

Just stalls his momentum a bit that one after successive birdies.

  20. Par for Schefflerpublished at 17:28 British Summer Time

    Scheffler -17, Li -11 (13)

Scottie Scheffler can't stretch his five-shot lead any further on the 13th, despite a fine tee shot. He pushes his birdie try out right and it doesn't come back.

Li Haotong is just off the green but scrambles a par to stay tied for third spot - which would equal where he finished on debut at Royal Birkdale in 2017.
