  1. Here he comes...published at 18:30 British Summer Time

    Faith Harper
BBC Sport NI at Royal Portrush

There have been people camped out at the 18th grandstand waiting for this moment all day.

You can hear the cheers getting closer and closer.

Rory McIlroy is on the way!

  2. What a welcomepublished at 18:30 British Summer Time

    McIlroy -10, Fitzpatrick -11 (17)

Thunderous welcome for Rory McIlroy as he strides onto the final green looking more than just a touch emotional.

That's not just for this week, this Royal Portrush welcome is a celebration of their hero for winning that career Grand Slam and giving them so many magical moments over the years.

  3. Par for Scheffler on 17published at 18:30 British Summer Time

    Scheffler -17, Li -11 (17)

Scottie Scheffler cosies up his birdie putt to the holeside. A safe par.

    He'll have a four-shot lead playing the 18th.

Li Haotong, meanwhile, holes from the bunker! He's 11 under, sharing fourth place. A birdie up the last will see him finish in a tie for third.

  4. Postpublished at 18:27 British Summer Time

    McIlroy -10, Fitzpatrick -11 (17)

Groans as Rory McIlroy misses the green just to the left on 18 - those growns are about to be turned into huge cheers though...

  5. Postpublished at 18:25 British Summer Time

    Scheffler -17, Li -10 (16)

Scottie Scheffler finds the heart of the 17th green in two. An almost-certain par, maybe a birdie.

  6. Postpublished at 18:22 British Summer Time

    Scheffler -17, Li -10 (16)

Scottie Scheffler and Li Haotong have had a long wait on the 17th tee while Rory McIlroy was in strife up ahead.

Li strikes first and his drive gets a great bounce forward - almost perfectly on the green... but it kicks right at the final moment and finds a bunker. A funny comment to the crowd and a smile from the man from China, who has really endeared himself to those who have followed him around Portrush this week.

Scottie Scheffler goes into the rough to the right of the fairway but he's not in massive trouble. Certainly not the kind of trouble that will have Harris English keeping warm for a potential play-off.

  7. Postpublished at 18:21 British Summer Time

    English -13, Gotterup -12 (18)

    Andy Gray
BBC Sport NI at Royal Portrush

There are two media colleagues who are very excited right now.

They have been beating the Harris English drum all week since getting the American in their office sweepstake and now, after four rounds, we're finally listening.

They've now turned into his biggest fans and have been cheering every birdie like it was Rory McIlroy.

If you didn't know his name, I'm sure you do now. Some performance to be best of the rest.

  8. English set for secondpublished at 18:21 British Summer Time

    English -13, Gotterup 12 (F)

Two pars at the last for the Americans meaning Harris English will almost certainly finish second at The Open after a round of 66.

Also a great effort from Chris Gotterup with his 67 coming hot on the heels of winning the Scottish Open last week - his first Open this week but obviously he's a natural on the links.

  9. Birdie for Fitzpublished at 18:19 British Summer Time

    McIlroy -10, Fitzpatrick -11 (17)

Great birdie on 17 for Matt Fitzpatrick, his second in a row, to move into the top five after a tough old day at the office.

Great sand save from Rory McIlroy too, just for a par though, and his day is almost done.

Just what should be a hugely emotional ovation on 18 awaits...

  10. 'Oasis-like atmosphere for Rory'published at 18:17 British Summer Time

    McIlroy -10 (16)

    Mark Chapman
Presenter on BBC Radio 5 Live

I was at Oasis at Heaton Park last week, and the atmosphere here brought me back to then.

People on each other's shoulders to get a glimpse of Rory.

  11. Postpublished at 18:16 British Summer Time

    English -13, Gotterup -12 (17)

Both players on the green about 30 feet away on 18 in this nice little battle for second place between the pair of Americans.

Although you could say the entire day has been a battle for second place...

  12. Postpublished at 18:15 British Summer Time

    McIlroy -10, Fitzpatrick -10 (17)

    Matt Gault
BBC Sport NI senior journalist at Royal Portrush

"Keep moving back until we tell you to stop!"

Crowd control again on 17 after a wild McIlroy swipe off the tee.

I can already see the entirety of Portrush waiting on 18.

It's going to be quite the moment when McIlroy approaches the green.

  13. Postpublished at 18:15 British Summer Time

    McIlroy -10, Fitzpatrick -10 (16)

Pretty similar spot for Rory McIlroy that he was in yesterday off among the crowd down the right of 17, and this time there's nowhere near as much noise as he dinks one down the hill - lands it on the green but gets a nasty bounce to his left and ends up in the bunker.

A wry smile says it all...

  14. Schauffele's title defence endspublished at 18:09 British Summer Time

    Hatton -7 (72), Schauffele -10 (68)

It's been a fine week for Xander Schauffele, who has performed admirably in defending his Open title.

The American went round in a level-par 71 on Thursday but has followed that with three rounds in the sixties and will have another top-10 finish at a major to stick on the CV.

A tip of the cap to the crowd as he holes his final putt.

As for today's playing partner, Tyrrell Hatton has found himself in the mix at another major but absolutely nothing happened for him with the putter, especially over the weekend.

The Englishman's time will come, I'm sure.

  15. Pars for final grouppublished at 18:06 British Summer Time

    Scheffler -17, Li -10 (16)

Scottie Scheffler, aiming for a fourth birdie on Calamity Corner this week, plonks his tee shot 12 feet from the hole.

It breaks left to right but Scheffler gives it too much and the ball stays afloat.

Li Haotong's excellent lag putt from distance sets up another par for him. It's been an eventful level-par round so far, with five birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey.

  16. Back-to-back birdies for Englishpublished at 18:05 British Summer Time

    English -13, Gotterup -12 (17)

The 17th is named 'Purgatory' but it's been quite heavenly for players this week as one of the five easiest holes on the course - mainly because of weather conditions.

Today players can bang a drive over the brow of the huge hill and let it power down the slope towards the green - like Harris English does here with only 28 yards left to the green.

Chipping up to 13 feet was good, not great, but he nailed the putt to make his birdie.

Chris Gotterup also played a beauty but just got snarled up in the rough a bit and then missed a 15-footer for birdie.

  17. Harman and Henley finish at nine underpublished at 18:03 British Summer Time

Two Americans have finished their final rounds with clean cards.

Brian Harman finished with back-to-back birdies to take him to nine under for the tournament.

It's a case of what might have been for the champion of two years ago, whose 73 yesterday ruled him out of contention.

Meanwhile Russell Henley built on a six-under 65 on Saturday with a similar 68 today to also finish at nine under.

  18. Postpublished at 18:01 British Summer Time

    McIlroy -10, Fitzpatrick -10 (16)

    Matt Gault
BBC Sport NI senior journalist at Royal Portrush

A huge roar for Matt Fitzpatrick, who judges his birdie putt across the 16th green to perfection.

Fitzpatrick has cut a frustrated figure out here over the past hour but he returns to double figures under par.

The chants for McIlroy are still in full flow. The atmosphere this week has been electric. It's just a shame these fans haven't been treated to a nail-biting Sunday.

  19. Birdie bomb for Fitzpatrickpublished at 18:00 British Summer Time

    McIlroy -10, Fitzpatrick -10 (16)

Matt Fitzpatrick looks to the sky as he lands a monster 30 footer for birdie on 16 - where's that been all day he's thinking as he's largely looked a frustrated figure most of his round.

He's still managed four birdies today, but the three bogeys have been the problem.

Rory McIlroy produces a nice up and down from just the top of the gorge that guards the 16th green and gets a great reception - including a few "Ole, Ole, Ole" chants as some fans already start to think towards the Ryder Cup...
