  1. Birdie for Rorypublished at 15:57 British Summer Time 20 July

    McIlroy -10, Fitzpatrick -9 (7)

Rory McIlroy makes no mistake rolling in the birdie putt to get to 10 under and move into the tie for second spot - still seven behind though.

Matt Fitzpatrick also picks up a shot to recover from the bogey on the last and he's just a shot back - these chaser still have to keep pushing despite Scottie Scheffler being so far ahead.

    You just never know.

  2. A record win incoming?published at 15:56 British Summer Time 20 July

    Scheffler -17, Li -10 (6)

Scottie Scheffler may surpass Tiger Woods' modern record of an eight-shot win at The Open in 2000 at St Andrews.

However, it's not the biggest winning margin in Open history.

That belongs to Tom Morris Sr, who won by 13 strokes in 1862.

Scheffler has found a bunker from the tee of the seventh, which he eagled yesterday. Just a flick out of the sand and into the semi-rough about 200 yards from the flag.

  3. 'Scheffler is so dialled in'published at 15:53 British Summer Time 20 July

It’s an amazing thing to watch. I’ve been blown away by Scottie Scheffler this year when I’ve been watching him up close.

Within golf there are so many variables over every shot that you either have to read or put together into some kind of formula for the shot that you need.

That’s why it is so hard to keep hitting good shot after good shot.

Scheffler is making those calculations and he’s so dialled in with his game. It’s a little bit disheartening as a professional golfer, but it’s also inspiring.

  4. Postpublished at 15:52 British Summer Time 20 July

    McIlroy -9, Fitzpatrick -8 (6)

Rory McIlroy winds up for a big one on seven but there's not enough draw and he ends up in the rough, meaning he can't go for the green in two and has to lay up.

The third shot is magnificent though as he's still got every chance of a birdie.

  5. Gotterup into secondpublished at 15:51 British Summer Time 20 July

    English -9, Gotterup -10 (7)

Comfortable birdie on seven for Chris Gotterup, who now finds himself in a tie for second place at The Open just a week after winning the Scottish Open.

That's some golfing from the American, who is playing in this for the very first time this week.

  6. DeChambeau a fan favouritepublished at 15:51 British Summer Time 20 July

When Bryson DeChambeau finished up for the day and made his way over the crosswalk, he was greeted by lots of fans waiting below.

He tossed a ball into the crowd and what I can only compare to a rugby scrum came next.

After considerable shuffling, a very loud "I got it" emerged. Fair play to the kid who managed to come away with it, that was tough work!

It's a real shame this year's Open isn't a competition rather than a demonstration of quality from Scheffler - would love to see the afternoon nail-biting but instead tipping my cap to the American.

    Shorty

Clearly DeChambeau thought he was still on the LIV Tour - only played last 54 holes!

  8. Clark finds run of birdiespublished at 15:50 British Summer Time 20 July

    Clark -7 (10)

While Scottie Scheffler continues to extend his lead, there are some behind him doing their best to grab his shadow.

One of them is American Wyndham Clark, who's just closed his front nine with three straight birdies.

He makes the turn in 33 and finds himself eight under par, although a bogey has followed at the 10th.

  9. Scheffler saves parpublished at 15:48 British Summer Time 20 July

    Scheffler -17, Li -10 (6)

Of course Scottie Scheffler makes the 15-footer for par. A big punch of the air from the American as he follows it in.

Li Haotong's birdie putt misses but he's in for a par three.

  10. Birdie for Hattonpublished at 15:46 British Summer Time 20 July

    Hatton -8, Schauffele -8 (8)

Tyrrell Hatton sinks a 30-footer for birdie on the eighth and raises his arms to the sky as if to say: "Why couldn't more of those go in this week?"

    He is human.

Scottie Scheffler's tee shot to the sixth doesn't make it over the large slope at the front of the green and he'll have a difficult up-and-down for par.

Li Haotong is on the green with 20-odd feet for birdie.

  12. DeChambeau closes brilliant final roundpublished at 15:40 British Summer Time 20 July

    DeChambeau -9 (64)

Bryson DeChambeau finishes a fantastic final round with a birdie at the 18th.

Seven birdies on the day for the American for a blemish-free 64, and he finishes on nine under, matching the final-round record at Portrush earlier set by Rickie Fowler.

Surely a bittersweet feeling for the two-time US Open winner, a brilliant recovery after being seven over par on Thursday evening but what could've been if his opening round was tidier.

It's nearly 40 years since a player shot a 78 or higher in the first round of a major and finished in the top five - Nick Price at the 1986 Masters.

  13. Just a parpublished at 15:40 British Summer Time 20 July

    McIlroy -9, Fitzpatrick -8 (6)

Rory McIlroy has hit so many great long-range putts the last couple of days, including this birdie try on six that barrels down the hill but just doesn't turn enough as it glides by the edge.

The problem is he's had too many of them from this range and it's just not possible to hole too many of these.

Matt Fitzpatrick has a damaging three putt her to drop a shot back.

    Scheffler -17 (5)

Scheffler just feels inevitable at this point.

I don't think there was a single spectator around the fifth green who had any doubt that was dropping.

  15. 'Scheffler oblivious to the situation'published at 15:40 British Summer Time 20 July

    Scheffler -17 (5)

    Oliver Wilson

It’s just like it’s another day in the park for Scheffler.

He continued where he left off yesterday. Nothing's really changed. It’s like he's oblivious to the situation.

  16. Birdies for Scheffler and Lipublished at 15:39 British Summer Time 20 July

    Scheffler -17, Li -10 (5)

A third birdie in five holes for Scottie Scheffler.

The fifth is a driveable par four on a good day, but Scheffler finds the fairway, it's a pitch and putt from there and he's now 17 under for the tournament.

Li Haotong goes right off the tee but he makes a tremendous up-and-down from a horrible spot in the rough to go into second place on his own.

  18. Schauffele misses chance to go secondpublished at 15:34 British Summer Time 20 July

    Hatton -7, Schauffele -8 (7)

Xander Schauffele's grip on the Claret Jug is loosening but he's putting up an excellent defence of the title he won 12 months ago.

He has a makeable birdie chance on the par-five seventh to join the growing group at nine under par, but it's not to be for the American.

The drone has been a feature of the fifth all week, but it got too close for comfort before Matt Fitzpatrick's birdie try.

McIlroy furiously waved his right arm and off it went into the sky.

The drone operator will be relieved to see both birdie putts find the cup.

  20. Out on the coursepublished at 15:32 British Summer Time 20 July

John Murray sitting on a bench

Given John Murray must be approaching 100,000 steps as he takes his sixth trip around Royal Portrush this week, I think he can be forgiven for having a wee sit down just off the back of the sixth tee and fifth green.

I reckon the Northern Ireland tourism board might be looking to purchase that photo, taken by former European Tour pro Andrew Murray.

They are out following Harris English and Chris Gotterup. The dream pairing they were hoping for.
