  1. Par savespublished at 16:52 British Summer Time

    McIlroy -8, Fitzpatrick -10 (11)

Matt Fitzpatrick not happy with a bad break on 11, but he manages to walk off with a pa which on this hole is not a bad score at all.

Rory McIlroy finds the bunker with his second but plays a nice escape to also save his par, but there's not quite the bounce in his step right now.

  2. 'Left feeling unsatisfied'published at 16:49 British Summer Time

    Fleetwood -7 (67)

Tommy Fleetwood finished seven under, and was speaking to Andy Stevenson:

On his week at The Open? "In the first round I was very disappointed with how I played but I was pleased with how I had to fight and I felt like I’d got away from the course with a score that wasn’t disastrous.

"The rest of the week - left feeling very unsatisfied. I feel like I got off to great starts and played well enough to build better rounds and couldn’t quite keep it going.

"I played a lot of good stuff. I’ll look back on it with feelings that I could have got more out of the tournament but at the same time I think I did a lot of good things."

  3. Par for Scheffler but lead extendedpublished at 16:48 British Summer Time

    Scheffler -16, Li -10 (10)

Li Haotong doesn't allow for enough break on his par putt and he'll lose the shot he gained with his birdie at the ninth.

Scottie Scheffler's birdie putt veers right at the last so he'll have to settle for par, but bogeys for Li and Chris Gotterup mean he's six in front again.

  4. Bogey for Gotteruppublished at 16:46 British Summer Time

    English -9, Gotterup -10 (11)

Chris Gotterup got a Rory McIlroy-esque flier on the 11th as he flew the green, and just could not manage to rescue the situation as he falls back to 10 under and a shot further away from the leader.

The challengers thyat almost threatened at one point are falling away now as Scottie Scheffler strolls away from the field.

  5. Postpublished at 16:44 British Summer Time

    McIlroy -8, Fitzpatrick -10 (10)

Rory McIlroy finds the rough off the 11th tee - on what is the second hardest hole on the course today so that's not an ideal start for someone who needs a near miracle now.

  6. Postpublished at 16:44 British Summer Time

    Scheffler -16, Li -11 (9)

Li Haotong gives himself some hope of saving par after finding trouble off the 10th tee. He'll have about 15 feet left for a four.

Scottie Scheffler will have a 10-footer for birdie after another fine approach to the green.

  7. Westwood closes offpublished at 16:41 British Summer Time

    Westwood -3 (73)

Not sure how many more times we'll see Lee Westwood at The Open and the 52-year-old gets a warm reception at 18.

At times this week, he's rolled back the clock, particularly off the tee. Unfortunately today has been his worst round, a two-over 73, but he'll still finish at three under for the tournament.

    And he's certainly still smiling.

  8. Double disaster for McIlroypublished at 16:41 British Summer Time

    McIlroy -8, Fitzpatrick -10 (10)

Oh dear, that could be that for Rory McIlroy as seemingly from nowhere he makes a double bogey six on the 10th hole and drops back to eight under and eight shots behind Scottie Scheffler.

It was a couple of bad breaks in a row, with that huge flier out of the rough catching him by surprise and then that mystery bad contact with his first chip shot showing that bad things can happen in a hurry around Portrush.

As impressive as it is watching Scheffler's procession to the title, it's a real shame in some ways given the sheer number of players all fighting for second place. Without Scheffler we'd be watching one of the most exciting finishes to a major ever.

    James, Cambridge

If Scottie stays running away with this then we should have a play-off for second. For the fans!

  11. Scheffler leads the waypublished at 16:38 British Summer Time

    Scheffler -16 (9)

The chasing pack needed Scottie Scheffler to falter early on.

    He didn't.

  12. Troublepublished at 16:37 British Summer Time

    McIlroy -10, Fitzpatrick -10 (9)

Rory McIlroy finds a clear spot behind the 10th green, but just flubs his chip shot that goes hardly anywhere - and he has a stern glare at the ground beneath him as he's not happy with something about the lie here.

He chips onto the green at the second attempt but now has a long putt just to make bogey.

Picked up a nice wee spot where I had a clear view of Scheffler's approach into nine and McIlroy's into 10.

Scheffler's ball stopped on the green only a couple of seconds before McIlroy tried his best from a sidehill lie.

It is admittedly flat out here, even with news of a rare Scheffler double filtering through.

  14. 'Hopefully I can fall in love with links golf'published at 16:37 British Summer Time

    DeChambeau -9 (64)

    BBC Radio 5 Live

Bryson DeChambeau has been talking to BBC Radio 5 Live's Andy Stevenson:

"I didn't play that much different on Thursday compared to today. I just didn't get a couple of breaks and it went south quickly.

"Hopefully I can be like Tom Watson and fall in love with links golf and embrace it in and give myself chances in the next couple of decades."

On Open leader Scottie Scheffler's performance: "It's very Tiger-like for sure. I wasn't playing during Tiger's timeframe, but I played with him a couple of times and you feel there's this difference in the air with him.

"I want to be paired with him a lot more because I want to feel and experience it and learn from it, because he's setting a benchmark at the moment that we all want to aspire to."

  15. Postpublished at 16:34 British Summer Time

    Scheffler -16, Li -11 (9)

At times, it's felt like climbing Everest chasing Scottie Scheffler today.

He's recovered from that little slip-up - and now has to tackle Himalayas...

  16. Birdies for Scheffler and Lipublished at 16:33 British Summer Time

    Scheffler -16, Li -11 (9)

The last group both make their birdie putts on the ninth.

Li Haotong is now in a share of second place, while Scottie Scheffler's lead increases to five shots at the midway point of his final round.

  17. Postpublished at 16:31 British Summer Time

    McIlroy -10, Fitzpatrick -10 (9)

You get a lot of jumpy lies on a links course, when the grass gets between club and ball and results in it flying far further than it would usually.

Rory McIlroy has got a monster one here and has air mailed the 10th green, going miles over the top and into the rough behind.

  18. Postpublished at 16:31 British Summer Time

    Scheffler -15, Li -10 (8)

Beautifully done by Li Haotong, whose second shot from out of the rough catches a bank at the back of the green and rolls about six feet away for birdie.

Scottie Scheffler has a much more straightforward pitch and he's got five feet left for a three.

  19. Great parpublished at 16:28 British Summer Time

    English -10, Gotterup -11 (10)

If Chris Gotterup has seen a leaderboard he'll know how close he now is to the lead, but he's wayward with an approach and has a stinker of a shot from off the 10th.

But he's played it wonderfully, getting creative and using the bank behind the flag to run it up and back down - before then making the putt for par.

That's brilliantly thought out from someone making their Open debut.

  20. 'All to play for'published at 16:26 British Summer Time

    McIlroy -10 (9)

    Catriona Matthew
Captain of Team Europe at the 2019 & 2021 Solheim Cup on BBC Radio 5 Live

Now he's five behind he'll be thinking this is all to play for.

It's amazing how quickly it can change.
