Pretty consistent golf from Lee Westwood a third of the way through this round. The experienced Englishman, who defected to LIV Golf in 2022, makes a simple two-foot putt for par on the sixth. Steady stuff.

  2. 'Rose still right in it'published at 15:07 British Summer Time

    Rose -2 (71)

    Catriona Matthew
Captain of Team Europe at the 2019 & 2021 Solheim Cup on BBC Radio 5 Live

Justin Rose is a fan favourite. Everyone feels for him with the Masters and last year in the Open. He would certainly be one the crowd are pulling for.

He is still right in it. He really only has had the one bad swing and it cost him three shots.

  3. Bryson back for more?published at 15:06 British Summer Time

    DeChambeau +1 (65)

    Andy Gray
BBC Sport NI at Royal Portrush

After his awful round yesterday, Bryson DeChambeau has been absolutely on one today but will still face a nervy wait to see if he makes the cut.

It's currently projected to be two over, but he's done all he can today to make the weekend.

On Wednesday he was entertaining the crowds on the 18th, and yesterday he was seething.

Today was somewhere in the middle. Now we wait.

  4. DeChambeau and MacIntyre finish off superb roundspublished at 15:06 British Summer Time

    DeChambeau +1 (65), MacIntyre -5 (66), Rose -2 (71)

Bryson DeChambeau will almost certainly make the cut on one over par - what an effort to turn his tournament around after a seven-over 78 yesterday. He equals the best round of the event so far.

Scotland's Bob MacIntyre is in contention for the second major in a row, following his runner-up finish at the US Open. Just the one bogey on 16, but otherwise a great round.

Justin Rose is also in for a par at the last and he's two under for the tournament.

  6. Safe parspublished at 15:01 British Summer Time

    Fleetwood -2, McIlroy -3, Thomas E (16)

The 16th is currently playing as the hardest hole on the course - it's flip-flopping with the 1st, 11th and 14th as the toughest bunch at Royal Portrush today.

Rory McIlroy though is a foot short of playing a stunner as his ball just creeps onto the front edge of the green but then slides off a few feet with the wind taken out of its sails.

    Still, a safe par though.

  7. Postpublished at 14:59 British Summer Time

    DeChambeau +1, MacIntyre -5, Rose -2 (17)

Three very good approach shots to the 18th.

Bryson DeChambeau will have an 18-footer for an amazing round of 64, while Bob MacIntyre will card a 65 if he can pop in his birdie try from a tad further out.

Justin Rose would have been looking at a similar score had it not been for his triple-bogey seven on the 11th, but he's still well in contention.

  8. English slips backpublished at 14:58 British Summer Time

    English -4 (15)

Looked like Harris English's carefully plotted round was about to unravel at the 15th but he's escaped with just a bogey.

Rough trouble down the left and then screwed his third shot into the greenside bunker, he's actually played it well to get up and down.

Still, he's dropped back to level par for his day.

  9. Schauffele set to start round twopublished at 14:56 British Summer Time

    Rahm -1, Schauffele E, Spaun +2 (14:59 BST)

Defending champion Xander Schauffele is about to head out for his second round. He went round in a level-par 71 on Thursday.

He's alongside former Masters and US Open champion Jon Rahm, and the current US Open champion JJ Spaun.

    Li -7 (7)

Oh a real chance goes begging for Haotong Li at the seventh and he can't believe his putt has not dropped.

He stares at the grass and then goes over to tap it in.

It's a par that keeps him one back.

  11. Jordan grabs another birdiepublished at 14:52 British Summer Time

    Jordan -5 (4)

Matthew Jordan has had an electric start to his second round here!

That's a second birdie in his opening four holes.

A 330-yard drive down the fairway gave him a nice look at the green, which he found in one, and he sinks an 18-foot putt to take a share of third.

  12. Hatton closes three shots backpublished at 14:51 British Summer Time

    Hatton -5 (69)

A very solid 18th hole for Tyrrell Hatton and he takes the acclaim of the crowd after tidying up for par.

He's finished with a two-under 69, his second straight round in the 60s, and he is well in contention going into the weekend.

  13. Westwood saves parpublished at 14:51 British Summer Time

    Detry +1, Gotterup -1, Westwood -2 (5)

Lee Westwood finds the rough with his tee shot at the fifth before overcooking a chip shot beyond the pin.

Westwood, playing in his 28th Open Championship and his first since 2022, rescues par with a couple of handy putts.

  14. 'It's just what you get with Rory'published at 14:49 British Summer Time

    McIlroy -3 (15)

    Andrew Murray
Former European Tour winner on 5 Live

McIlroy is that good that he could birdie every single hole and he just happens to have hit middle the fairway on each of those holes. On the first he didn’t quite but he near as did.

If he hits it down the centre of the fairways, he looks very secure and he’s pretty confident with the putter.

It’s just what you get with Rory – it’s a rollercoaster

  15. Postpublished at 14:49 British Summer Time

    Fleetwood -2, McIlroy -3, Thomas -1 (15)

I said it was tough from where Rory McIlroy was just short of the 15th green, but not if you're a Grand Slam winner it's not, as he almost holes out for a birdie.

    A safe par will do.

  16. MacIntyre bounces back with birdiepublished at 14:47 British Summer Time

    DeChambeau +1, MacIntyre -5, Rose -2 (17)

A bounce-back birdie for Bob MacIntyre on the 17th, as the Scot holes his putt from the fringe of the green.

Bryson DeChambeau drains his birdie putt too and is now one over for the tournament - a tremendous comeback from the two-time major winner.

    English -5 (14)

Pretty sure Harris English would have fancied himself to birdie the 14th from seven feet but he can't get it to drop.

He'll stay at five under par - now three shots off the lead.

  20. Birdie start for Fitzpublished at 14:41 British Summer Time

    Fitzpatrick -5 (1)

The best possible start for Matt Fitzpatrick as he finds a fairway and then hit a beautiful baby draw into the green to 10 feet and rolls it in for a three.

Genuinely, you can't play this first hole any better than that. Glorious.
