Summary

  1. Another bogey for Jordanpublished at 16:32 BST 18 July

    Jordan -3 (9)

It's another bogey for Matthew Jordan and not the way he will have wanted to end his front nine.

He skewed off into the native area off the tee and his second shot found the left bunker - the third got him on to the green but his first putt doesn't quite drop and just like yesterday it's a five on the ninth.

After a blistering start he's dropped back to three under.

  2. Postpublished at 16:32 BST 18 July

    Rahm -2, Schauffele E, Spaun E (5)

Xander Schauffele and JJ Spaun have 30-odd feet left for birdie on the driveable par four - both are off target, but are able to save par.

Jon Rahm is over the back of the green, but a bit closer than his two playing partners. His effort drifts away at the final moment and he makes par also.

A screenshot image of a post assking for user reaction to if they would like to go for a pint with Tyrrell Hatton. Thumbs up 509, thumbs down 134

Looks like that is pretty conclusive.

    I'm just relieved it's Tyrrell's round.

  4. Bogey for Bhatiapublished at 16:29 BST 18 July

    Bhatia -1 (6)

Gave Akshay Bhatia the big build-up about how good his putting has been to register four birdies in his first five holes... he's just missed from five feet for par on the sixth.

    Back to one under.

    Li -9 (12)

There's a bit of daylight developing here at the top with Haotong Li a shot clear of Brian Harman, and Matt Fitzpatrick another two back.

We know that rounds can unravel rapidly at this championship but, from what was an eight-way tie at the top a few hours ago, the leaders have separated themselves.

  6. Li moves into outright leadpublished at 16:25 BST 18 July

    Li -9 (12)

I mentioned that the 12th was the easiest hold on the course and Haotong Li has made the most of it.

A bit of trouble off the tee but he's recovered brilliantly and drained a birdie putt from seven feet.

Into the solo lead at The Open!

  7. Par for Scheffler & Lowrypublished at 16:20 BST 18 July

    Lowry -2, C Morikawa +5, Scheffler -4 (5)

Scottie Scheffler and Shane Lowry both make par on the fifth. The former has a simple tap in while the latter has something a little more tricky from 11 feet.

Coverage from Royal Portrush continues on BBC Radio 5 Live, BBC Sounds and via the link at the top of this page.

Alongside all of the on-course action, there are plenty of interviews with players who have just made their way off the course.

  9. 'Sometimes you need a spark'published at 16:16 BST 18 July

    Fitzpatrick -6 (6)

    Oliver Wilson
Former Ryder Cup player on BBC Radio 5 Live at Portrush

I don't visibly see anything different in Matt but I know he is feeling very good about his game. He has had a recent coach change so maybe that has just reinvigorated him.

I know in practice that he has been hitting it very well and he has obviously got the pedigree to get the job done.

Sometimes you just need a little spark to give you a change of direction.

  10. Bhatia starts stronglypublished at 16:16 BST 18 July

    Bhatia -2 (5)

We've got an American left-hander sharing the lead and there's another one lighting up the front nine at Royal Portrush at the moment.

Akshay Bhatia has birdied four of his first five holes, sinking 75 feet worth of putts in the process.

  11. Fitzpatrick birdies the sixthpublished at 16:14 BST 18 July

    Fitzpatrick -6 (6)

An immediate chance for Matt Fitzpatrick to retrieve that shot he lost at the fifth, as he puts his tee shot to within 10 feet on the sixth.

In it goes - that'll do very nicely indeed for the Englishman.

  12. Postpublished at 16:12 BST 18 July

    Lowry -1, C Morikawa +4, Scheffler -4 (4)

"Let's go Scottie!" bellows a fan with an American accent after Scottie Scheffler lands a seven iron on the green at the fifth. He has a birdie chance, albeit a long one.

  13. Postpublished at 16:09 BST 18 July

    Jordan -4 (8)

It's back-to-back pars for Matthew Jordan, who can't recreate the birdie he had at the eighth yesterday.

On to the ninth - a hole he dropped a shot on in his first round.

  14. Postpublished at 16:09 BST 18 July

I reckon Tyrrell Hatton would be a pretty good bloke to go for a pint with.

Thumbs if you'd be up for having a beer - or tipple of your choosing - with the Englishman.

  15. 'See you later for a pint' - Hattonpublished at 16:08 BST 18 July

Tyrrell Hatton has shone a light on how he likes to unwind away from the course.

He's very happy with a bit of Netflix or perhaps taking in a quick evening round at Ballyreagh, a nine-hole par-three course just up the road from the Dunluce Links.

"It was really fun - it was a beautiful evening," he said.

"I went and had three pints of Guinness afterwards, so that kind of made the evening a bit better."

And will he be off for another one this evening?

"I said to Bob [MacIntyre] on the 18th, 'I'll see you later for a pint'," he added.

  16. Postpublished at 16:06 BST 18 July

    Rahm -2, Schauffele E, Spaun E (4)

Pars for this trio on the fourth.

All three had long birdie attempts but none of them dropped.

  17. Bogey for Fitzpatrickpublished at 16:05 BST 18 July

    Fitzpatrick -5 (5)

That wayward tee shot proves costly for Matt Fitzpatrick, who drops a shot at the fifth.

His lag putt from 75 feet for birdie was a decent one, but he misses the par attempt from five feet and he's back to five under.

  18. Li moves onto the 12thpublished at 16:05 BST 18 July

    Li -8 (11)

Our co-leader Haotong Li of China has navigated the tricky 11th safely with a par and stays at eight under.

By contrast, Dhu Varren (the 12th) is playing as the easiest hole on the course so could offer an opportunity to seize the outright lead.

  19. McIlroy was better off the tee in round twopublished at 16:03 BST 18 July

A graph of Rory McIlroy's stats comparing round one with round two:Metric	Round one	Round two Putting	1.27	0.65 Around the green	0.92	-0.36 Approach	1.95	1.64 Off the tee	-1.12	0.04 Total	3.02	1.96

It was a rollercoaster round from Rory MciIlroy and the stats above do reflect that.

On day two, he was worse for strokes gained in every metric bar off the tee but actually shot an overall better round (-2 as opposed to -1).

  20. 'Excited to make a run at it this weekend'published at 16:02 BST 18 July

Rory McIlroy spoke to BBC Radio 5 Live after round two:

"I feel like it was a solid day. Just like yesterday was a solid day. I feel like I could be a couple of shots better but I'm here for the weekend which is an improvement on 2019.

"I'm excited to play in front of those crowds and make a run at it over the weekend."

On whether he was enjoying it at Portrush: "Yeah, it was a battling day but it's amazing to play in front of those crowds. It's absolutely incredible.

"I feel very lucky to come home to people that have followed me throughout my whole career.

"Some of them saw me when i was 16, 20 years ago and have followed my progression. I'm really looking forward to playing in front of them for another two days."
