  1. Koepka ends one underpublished at 19:40 British Summer Time 18 July

    Clark +7, Koepka -1, Matsuyama +4 (F)

A solid day's work for Brooks Koepka, who ends with a two-putt par and finishes on one under.

He went on a run of four birdies in a row on his front nine and is three off the lead as he heads to the clubhouse.

  2. Postpublished at 19:39 British Summer Time 18 July

    Fitzpatrick -1, Lowry -4, Smith +9 (16)

Shane Lowry was quite close to the face of the bunker on 16, but he manages to flip it up high enough for it to land about 20 feet away.

The birdie putt was never hard enough and leaking left - another par for the co-leader.

Better news for Cam Smith though, as the Aussie makes a birdie that brings him back to nine over.

  3. England's Brown into joint leadpublished at 19:37 British Summer Time 18 July

    Brown -4 (11)

Daniel Brown - a name to remember?

Back-to-back birdies mean the Yorkshireman is now the joint leader on four under on his major debut.

He's four holes behind co-leader Shane Lowry, who's on the 16th. What a putt by Brown to move level and what an Open story this could be.

  4. Spieth slips backpublished at 19:33 British Summer Time 18 July

    Scheffler E, Spieth +1, Young +2 (15)

Jordan Spieth looks to have nailed an eight-footer for par but the ball takes a wicked turn right at the death as he drops another shot.

Scottie Scheffler's 20-footer for birdie also looks good for a long time before just missing the target and he stays on level par.

  5. Postpublished at 19:31 British Summer Time 18 July

    Fitzpatrick -1, Lowry -4, Smith +10 (15)

On the par-five 16th, Shane Lowry is in a bunker at the front of the green in two.

Up and down from there will take him to five under - all depends on whereabouts in the bunker he actually is...

  6. Ken On The Course: 17th pinpublished at 19:26 British Summer Time 18 July

    Cantlay +2, Schauffele -2, Woods +6 (16)

Tiger Woods just tumbles off the back of the green on the long par-three 17th and Xander Schauffele finds himself in a spot of bother - but there are a few of them on 17, as Ken explains....

  7. Hard going for Smithpublished at 19:25 British Summer Time 18 July

    Smith +10 (15)

Two years ago, Cam Smith was celebrating victory in the 150th Open at St Andrew's - but he could be on the verge of the worst score of the day here.

He's currently 10 over after 15, with only four players worse off.

Dan Bradbury's 12-over 83 is currently the highest score in the clubhouse.

  8. 'Under par is always good'published at 19:23 British Summer Time 18 July

    Straka -1 (70)

Sepp Straka, speaking after his one-under round of 70 today:

"Under-par is always good, especially with these conditions. It was blowing hard all day. Started off pretty rough with the off the tee, kept missing it left, but it was blowing 20 miles off the right.

"I saved a few pars early and got settled in and played some really good golf the rest of the way."

    On managing the conditions:

"In this tournament, I feel like it's easy because you kind of prepare for that. You kind of have your mindset that's where it's going to be, and that's kind of part of the tournament.

"It almost makes it more fun when the conditions are like that, obviously when you're playing well. If you're not playing well, it just makes it annoying."

Tiger Woods plays a beauty though out of the bunker on 16, which is wet and damp and he's right up against the face - but he traps up nicely and sends the ball spinning up towards the hole and sitting down just a couple of feet from the hole.

    Par saved.

  10. Watch: Lowry surges into the leadpublished at 19:20 British Summer Time 18 July

    Lowry -4 (15)

Shane Lowry has putted like a dream during his first round - it's the main reason why he's leading The Open right now.

  11. Postpublished at 19:19 British Summer Time 18 July

    Clark +7, Koepka -1, Matsuyama +4 (17)

These three former major champions all found the green with their tee shots on 17 and made two-putt pars.

    Up the last, they go...

  12. Postpublished at 19:18 British Summer Time 18 July

    Fitzpatrick -1, Lowry -4, Smith +10 (15)

Shane Lowry has a 12-footer left for a birdie three - but that's not his best putt of the day, tailing away to the left very quickly after striking.

A par will do though, and there's a chance to pick up a shot on the par five 16th next up.

  13. England's Brown creeps into early contentionpublished at 19:18 British Summer Time 18 July

    Brown -3 (12)

While Irishman Shane Lowry is leading the way, Englishman Daniel Brown has crept up into a tie for second place after back-to-back birdies on nine and 10.

The 29-year-old Yorkshireman, a winner on the European Tour last year, has put together a bogeyless round to date and is one of the later starters who is standing out.

  14. 'Oh Tiger'published at 19:16 British Summer Time 18 July

    Cantlay +2, Schauffele -2, Woods +6 (15)

"Oh Tiger" is the cry from an American voice in the Troon crowd as Tiger Woods tries to hack out from the juicy, slippery rough right of the 16th green, but chunks it and it hits the top of the greenside bunker and drops into the sand trap - and right up against the face as well.

  15. Postpublished at 19:14 British Summer Time 18 July

    Scheffler E, Spieth E, Young +1 (14)

Just some lag putting on the par-three 14th for this group and they are all up to the job and walk away with par threes.

  16. Friday's tee timespublished at 19:10 British Summer Time 18 July

These groups that are playing late on day one will have earlier starts tomorrow.

Current leader Shane Lowry is due out at 09:47 BST on Friday, 11 minutes before world number one Scottie Scheffler.

The eighth hole, known as the Postage Stamp, plays tough at the best of times, but Australian Min Woo Lee - who went round in a more than respectable level par - sums up just how tricky it's been today at Royal Troon.

He posted on X:, external "If people didn’t know, there's a person that follows each group raking bunkers at The Open, but on hole eight (Postage Stamp) there is a specific guy who does it. I feel bad for the fella, his arms are about to fall off. Sorry from the pros out here plus me #brutal"

  18. Postpublished at 19:04 British Summer Time 18 July

    Clark +7, Koepka -1, Matsuyama +4 (16)

Par saved by Brooks, nicely done.

Five birdies and four bogeys on Koepka's card today.

  19. Postpublished at 19:02 British Summer Time 18 July

    Clark +8, Koepka -1, Matsuyama +4 (15)

Further along the course to the par-five 16th, which is the only hole that is playing under par today, Brooks Koepka has played three and is just off the back of the green.

  20. Postpublished at 19:01 British Summer Time 18 July

    Cantlay +2, Schauffele -2, Woods +6 (15)

Tiger Woods can still give it a smack off the tee, hammering a drive 333 yards off the 15th tee - and finding the fairway as well which helps him to make his par as he heads into the closing three holes.
