With the dust still settling on today's drama, we still don't know tomorrow's pairings.

Imagine they will be revealed later tonight. Maybe after Luke Donald and Zach Johnson have debated the options with their vice-captains over a glass of red.

Here's what Donald had to say a little while ago about tomorrow...

"I’m really focussed on going out and showing another strong session. Winning that will be our only goal. This is a great start and we want to build on that lead," he said.

Former Ryder Cup stars have been having their say on today's events, with the Europeans understandably happy.

Welsh legend Ian Woosnam congratulated the team and told them to "get some deserved rest", while Northern Ireland's Graeme McDowell said the pairings were "excellent".

    Europe 6½-1½ USA

We've seen some big putts on 18 today, but none had the reaction of Justin Rose as he rolled his in to ensure USA finished the day without winning a single match for the first time in Ryder Cup history.

And didn't he just love it....

The USA are already talking about coming out fighting on day two to claw their way out of this hole.

Scottie Scheffler: "The guys on this team know what they're doing. We have a lot of talented guys, and we're looking to bounce back tomorrow and put up a good fight. That's really all we're looking for."

Brooks Koepka: "Just keep fighting. You never know what's going to happen. Still got a long day tomorrow.

"I mean, the same thing could happen, I guess it's just a matter of momentum. But we've got to go out in the first session and play well, that's for sure."

Europe’s Rory McIlroy speaking to BBC Sport Northern Ireland after winning both of his matches on the opening day of a Ryder Cup for the first time: "It’s amazing. The fact that the Americans didn’t win a full point was incredible and just shows the heart, grit and determination that the European team has. You look at the three matches that went up 18 and how good the 18th was to us.

"It’s an amazing day but it is just one day. There are two days left. It’s a great start but we can’t rest on our laurels. We need to go out there and try and win tomorrow’s morning session and keep increasing our lead.

"I’ve had two great partners today. Tommy played brilliant this morning and Matt obviously got off to that unbelievable start this afternoon. I felt like I contributed quite nicely as well but individually for myself and the team it’s been an incredible day. We’ll enjoy it, regroup and go again tomorrow.

"We have a ton of momentum and we’ll try and ride the crowd’s energy to win both sessions tomorrow."

    Paul Waring
European Tour pro on BBC Radio 5 Live

This has been the difference from previous Ryder Cups.

We’ve always been the side that don’t hole the putts, don’t have the chip-ins, those elements of luck that go our way.

But today we had that momentum, that luck and we had those finishing killer instincts. It was great to see.

Justin Rose and Bob MacIntyre were speaking to Radio 5 Live:

How do you feel after that finish?

Justin Rose: "It’s the last putt of the day, the whole team around. Bobby and I worked so hard all day to get something out of that.

"You look at the significance of the scoreboard and just the fact there was no red on the scoreboard the whole day long. Bob and I did not want it to be us today and I felt we deserved more than that.

"We did play well. Wyndham and Max tag-teamed nicely and were a hard team to beat. We had to work for it. Huge momentum this afternoon on what could have been a huge claw-back for USA."

The oldest man on the team, the wisest man on the team – what did he do for you?

Bob MacIntyre: "He saved my life. The back nine especially he was absolutely immense. He just showed his class there. I’ve learned a lot from him today and I just have to dust myself off and go again.

How did your first shot at the Ryder Cup feel?

MacIntyre: "I stepped on that first tee and I was close to tears in the tunnel. I’ve been thinking about that tee shot for three weeks and I just knew what I had to do. I struggled on the greens today but we move on."

Was it nice being back in the Ryder Cup?

Rose: "I missed that feeling, missed the team, missed the boys, missed everything."

Europe captain Luke Donald has been talking to BBC golf correspondent Iain Carter after a superb opening day for his team.

"Sensational – a dream start for us," says Donald.

"This morning was an amazing performance by the guys and this afternoon was tough. The US came back, we knew they would. They had a stretch there in the middle where the momentum was turning their way but man, did we turn it back.

"Putts by Viktor, Jon and Rosie make a huge difference going on to tomorrow.

"We felt we were stronger in foursomes. We showed that this morning and gave ourselves the perfect start. Big shout out to all my vice-captains with the statistics showing that was the right call."

Who does he pick/leave out tomorrow?

"That’s a good problem to have. We’ll sit down with the vice-captains and figure it out," Donald adds.

Justin Thomas has been speaking after this afternoon's fourballs: "It's not the start we wanted but fortunately for us we've got a lot of golf left. We'll just go get some sleep, regroup and go try to win as many points as possible tomorrow.

"Tomorrow is important. We've put ourselves in a spot where we need...every session is extremely important and yeah, at the end of the day, it's just all anybody can do is control their match.

"You can't win more than one point in one match, and just go out and do your job and win as many as we possibly can tomorrow and get back in it going into singles."

Justin Rose is also a man in demand after his heroics on the last, with the veteran Englishman already speaking in a post-round news conference.

Rose, who is back in the team after missing out at Whistling Straits in 2021, epitomises the team spirit which Europe have harnessed so well over the years.

"It was for the other 10 guys all sat there. You can't plan to celebrate like that. The emotion just comes out," he says.

"I've never really had a moment in the Ryder Cup - I've won lots of points but never a moment like that."

Tyrrell Hatton has collected 1½ points today for Europe, winning 4&3 in this morning's foursomes and then grabbing half a point on the 18th green with Viktor Hovland's superb final putt in their fourballs match against Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth.

Here's what he's had to say about it all: "The team went out this afternoon in a good mood. Although we found ourselves two down through, what is it, 13?

"We feel like we played decent and putts weren't really dropping for us. So yeah, obviously Viktor to hole the putt on the last was amazing.

"I think I almost corkscrewed into the ground fist-pumping. Yeah, they might need to prepare that one before anyone has that putt."

This is the first time the USA have not won a single match in a day at the Ryder Cup.

You literally couldn't have drawn that up much better for Luke Donald's European side - who managed to end day one in a better position than the United States did at Whistling Straits two years ago when they raced into a 6-2 lead.

Donald has fielded all 12 players in his team, and all 12 have collected at least a half, and the USA have failed to win a single match.

    What a start.

Who saw this coming? Be honest.

Two years ago on the coast of Lake Michigan, nobody did.

All sorts of predictions about the length of American dominance were being touted, I seem to remember.

Still a loooong way to go, of course, but it feels like Europe have laid down a big marker today.
