    MacIntyre/Rose v Homa/Clark 2UP (14)

A tough birdie putt for Rose, coming down the hill. He can't attack it too much, and doesn't, weighting it nicely.

Still a chance. Homa and Clark are coming from the same direction with their par putts, albeit much closer to the can.

  3. Scottie too hottiepublished at 16:34 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

    Rahm/Hojgaard v Scheffler/Koepka 1UP (17)

The USA will get at least half a point out of this one as Scottie Scheffler picks the ideal time to produce an iron shot of the highest quality.

Jon Rahm unusually for him leaves his birdie putt short, and it was going in as well, and that'll be a huge dagger as Scheffler gets easily as animated as you've ever seen him.

It just shows what the Ryder Cup can do to even the most normally placid of players - he hardly raised an eyebrow when he won the Masters.

  4. Postpublished at 16:32 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

    MacIntyre/Rose v Homa/Clark 2UP (14)

Justin Rose and Bob MacIntyre need to make their move quick. Holes are running out.

The veteran Englishman has shown some vintage stuff today, particularly with his mid iron approach shots.

Here is another beauty on the 15th, leaving him with an 25-foot birdie putt which Europe could really do with him sinking.

Rose is the only one on the dancefloor in two shots...

  5. Dormie fourpublished at 16:32 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

    4UP McIlroy/Fitzpatrick v Morikawa/Schauffele (14)

Wow! Xander Schauffele has a great chance from no more than four feet to win the hole, but his putter hasn't been great today and he misses the chance.

Rory McIlroy shows a bit of experience there by then making Schauffele put in the return, from no more than a couple of feet but just trying to get under the skin of the American.

He makes it but being four down with four to play it means Europe go dormie and Matt Fitzpatrick is assured of his first ever Ryder Cup half point - he'll want the full one though.

  6. Postpublished at 16:28 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

    Hovland/Hatton v Spieth/Thomas A/S (17)

This is the last hole of a long day for Viktor Hovland and there are signs of fatigue as he shanks his tee shot right and into some punishing-looking rough.

No such trouble for Tyrrell Hatton who smokes his drive down the fairway.

Justin Thomas follows him into safety but Jordan Spieth's ball is nestling in the shorter rough out right.

One ball fine, one ball in trouble apiece for a match that feels pretty pivotal.

  7. Tense finish aheadpublished at 16:27 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

    Rahm/Hojgaard v Scheffler/Koepka A/S (16)

Nicolai Hojgaard might just be finding this a bit too hot to handle, as he tugs his tee shot on 17, the par three, into the water.

This is Jon Rahm's stage though, and he launches a dart right at the flag, it pitches pin high and stops 10 feet away.

The only trouble with that is that he's playing against the world number one - and Scottie Scheffler shows why he's top of the tree by sticking it to five feet. Advantage USA.

  8. Up to the 18thpublished at 16:25 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

It's quite a sharp climb from the 17th green to the 18th tee. It's not like getting up Vesuvius, but enough to make you need to pause and gather yourself before teeing off down the last. Particularly with this much at stake.

A first US point on the board? Or a dramatic turnaround by Europe?

I'd ask you to hit the thumbs but they're not available today. I've been told they'll be back tomorrow though. Which is clearly good news!

  9. Postpublished at 16:24 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

    Hovland/Hatton v Spieth/Thomas A/S (17)

    About that 18th.

Only the longest closing hole in Ryder Cup history.

A monster 589-yard par five but with a nice wide fairway and a serious downhill slope to get your ball moving.

This is your classic risk-and-reward hole. You would feel the Europeans are more free to go at it - but the US really need that point.

  10. All square down the 18thpublished at 16:22 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

    Hovland/Hatton v Spieth/Thomas A/S (17)

First up, it's Viktor Hovland. Drags right.

    Your turn, Tyrrell. Hangs left.

A chance for Justin Thomas to guarantee at least a half for the US. No, it's wide as well.

We're onto the 18th for the first time today.

  11. Postpublished at 16:21 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

    MacIntyre/Rose v Homa/Clark 2UP (14)

Justin Rose has a strong record in the Ryder Cup, winning 13 and tying two of his 23 matches.

He ain't going to be tickled into a defeat.

Digging out another par on the 14th keeps the European pair on the shoulders of Homa and Clark.

Jon Rahm does it again! Those magic Spanish hands whip a wedge through the rough around the 16th green and send the ball tumbling down bang on line...

The big Spaniard's arm goes up, the ball goes down and the crowd go bananas! What a way to win the hole and level the match.

  13. Postpublished at 16:17 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

    4UP McIlroy/Fitzpatrick v Morikawa/Schauffele (13)

A rare half in this match at the par three, and we're on the brink now with Europe four up with five to play.

  14. Postpublished at 16:16 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

    MacIntyre/Rose v Homa/Clark 2UP (13)

Still plenty of life left in this match but you feel Clark and Homa are plugged in to the American energy jolting around Marco Simone.

Clark particularly has thrived on his Ryder Cup debut, dropping six birdies in the past nine holes.

Undroppable now? Maybe a bit strong but certainly making it very difficult for Zach Johnson not to play him in both sessions tomorrow.

  15. Postpublished at 16:15 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

    Hovland/Hatton v Spieth/Thomas A/S (16)

    Or are they rattled?

Justin Thomas follows them in and he's actually the closest at 11 feet.

His partner Jordan Spieth goes missing - so it'll only be three really intriguing putts in the next few minutes.

  16. Postpublished at 16:13 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

    Hovland/Hatton v Spieth/Thomas A/S (16)

Classy from Viktor Hovland on the par-three 17th as he flights his tee shot to the back of the green.

I'll raise you, says Tyrrell Hatton who goes one better. Fine birdie opportunities upcoming and the gauntlet thrown down to the rattled Americans.

  18. Europe level as Thomas missespublished at 16:10 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

    Hovland/Hatton v Spieth/Thomas A/S (16)

As we write that, a red bar disappears.

Seven feet for Justin Thomas to stay ahead. Missed!

We're all square with two to play.

  19. Postpublished at 16:10 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

The Americans have finally woken up this afternoon.

Maybe their bodies and minds weren't adjusted to the time zone earlier on...

For the golf fans waking up across the Atlantic and tuning in, they will be wondering what the heck happened this morning.

Three of this afternoon's fourballs are now painted red.

  20. USA edge aheadpublished at 16:09 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

    Rahm/Hojgaard v Scheffler/Koepka 1UP (15)

Brooks Koepka is starting to find his range now as he makes it back-to-back birdies to edge the USA ahead going down the stretch.

He's been quite all day but with a five-time major champion it's only a matter of time before he gets something going - he could well take this match away from Europe in a hurry.
