Jon Rahm and Nicolai Hojgaard, talking to Katherine Downes:

His thoughts on the final hole:

Jon Rahm: "I was trying to get it into the hole - left a few of them short, I wished I wouldn’t have, but I definitely just wanted to get it into the hole and give it a chance. Words of encouragement from Nicolai telling me to go for it and ‘what would Seve do?’ – He would have done something spectacular.

"We both have (been channelling Seve) – he played incredible golf for a Ryder Cup rookie. To go out there and do that, I was quite impressed and he’s only going to get better."

On his first Ryder Cup match:

Nicolai Hojgaard: "It was a fun experience. It was a tense match, back and forth all the time. Played some good golf on the front night, and Rahmbo took over on the back and we helped each other the best we could today.

"Obviously we would like to win a match but half a point is important and I’m very proud of my team-mate today. We can’t wait to get to work tomorrow."

  2. 'Rose destined to hole this today'published at 17:40 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

    MacIntyre/Rose v Homa/Clark A/S (F)

    Graeme Storm
Two-time European Tour winner on BBC Radio 5 Live

What else did you expect from Justin Rose? He’s handled the pressure so well.

Bob MacIntyre will be a little bit disappointed with his play today. It hasn’t been the usual aggressive player we’re used to seeing, who goes for everything.

He’s had a great partner in Justin Rose. He’s got nerves of steel and he was destined to hole that final putt today.

The celebration from Justin Rose tells us everything.

The European veteran roars like a lion and beats his chest in the direction of his team-mates who are all gathered at the side of the green.

You feel that's what Rose and MacIntyre fully deserved.

They hung tough and scrapped for their lives in a fourballs contest which demonstrated why this format is so much fun.

    Rahm/Hojgaard v Scheffler/Koepka A/S (F)

The numbers from this match were just insane - with Scottie Scheffler and Brooks Koepka combining for 10 birdies in their round, including six of their last seven holes.

Yet that was only enough for a half as Jon Rahm and Nicolai Hojgaard managed eight birdies and two eagles to finish the match all square.

That's some incredible golf under the most intense pressure.

    MacIntyre/Rose v Homa/Clark A/S (F)

    Incredible!

No fear from Justin Rose, who duly drops his putt and earns Europe what seemed a very unlikely half not too long ago.

What a finish! What a day!!

Europe lead 6½-1½ after the opening day.

The United States have not won a match in a day for the first time in Ryder Cup history.

    This for the match then...

With all eyes on him from a packed 18th green, Homa's putt drifts agonisingly left and means the visitors have not won a single match today.

Unless Justin Rose misses his putt, that is...

Finally all four men are on the green. First up with the short stick is Bob MacIntyre.

Dropping this in from 25 feet for birdie and potentially saving your pair from a defeat would be a heck of a way to finish.

Ah, not to be. A decent weight but never really threatening the hole.

    Over to Max Homa...

    MacIntyre/Rose v Homa/Clark 1UP (17)

After we've been singing Clark's praises today, he's had a meltdown on the last.

A channel in the crowd has been chiselled out to let the American come back on to the 18th green.

He overhits the third shot and the home fans get giddy thinking he's dunked it.

The ball is held up by the rough but it sure ain't pretty.

I see it. And I'll raise it.

That's pretty much what Justin Rose has just said, going inside Homa's ball with his approach on the last.

Been a cracking contest this throughout, now it's going to the wire.

Back to Homa then... he might have to salvage things for Team America.

A calmer approach than Clark's rush of blood to the head is what the visitors needed.

He's on the green for three and a chance of making the putt.

"Get in the water!" screams a fan in Italian-accented English as Clark lashes at his second shot.

    Blimey... what's he done here?

Clark rather impetuously clobbers the ball right, shouting 'Fore!' and forcing punters to duck for cover.

In pole position is Wyndham Clark. Middle of the fairway, loads of short stuff in front of him.

Doesn't have to do anything daft...

    MacIntyre/Rose v Homa/Clark 1UP (17)

Safety first for Max Homa, who knocks a sensible second shot down the fairway.

Oh, Justin Rose. You daredevil. He's got a wood out of the bag for his bunker shot.

No, he doesn't fancy it on reflection. An iron is the sensible choice and he gets the ball down there.

Jordan Spieth is doing the golfing equivalent of lines on the blackboard. He's back down the range at the end of the day (although it is self-imposed homework rather than a punishment).

Right then, what have the Americans got?

Max Homa has had a long day at the office on day one of Ryder Cup duty, and pushes a tired-looking tee-shot right.

Down to Wyndham Clark perhaps. He smokes it.

A very impressive debut for the US Open continues.

Can he see it through and earn a very valuable point for the visitors?

As if a long par-five at the end of a physically-demanding course isn't enough, the course designers thought they'd add an extra element by facing it into the setting sun.

Nevertheless, the European boys cream their drives.

No way... Rose rather unluckily ends up in the fairway bunker. He'll be gutted by that.

    We're going down the last!

Wyndham Clark doesn't read his putt right, blasting the effort past the right lip.

He left it all out there at the very least.

A par for Justin Rose does the business. To the 18th!

  20. 'Happy with half'published at 17:07 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

Hovland & Hatton halve with Spieth & Thomas

Tyrrell Hatton speaking to Sky Sports: "A tough ask but we both played great today. It was nice to finally see a putt go in there on the last.

"A tough match but we kept plugging away and gave ourselves opportunities. Ultimately by the end, we're happy with half a point."
