  1. Aberg falling apartpublished at 17:08 British Summer Time 19 July

    Aberg +8, DeChambeau +7, Kim +7 (7)

This superstar group are all missing the cut as things stand as they all drop shots on the seventh after also dropping shots on the sixth.

Ludvig Aberg is the main culprit, hitting the fairway bunker, chipping out, and then coming up short with his pitch to the green - that's really poor even in this wind as he cards a double-bogey six.

That's four shots the young Swede has dropped in his last three holes...

  2. Postpublished at 17:06 British Summer Time 19 July

    Hatton +4, Homa +7, McIlroy +13 (6)

Pars for Tyrrell Hatton and Max Homa but it's another bogey for Rory McIlroy, whose third shot over the back of the green left him in real trouble.

He's six over after six holes of his second round.

  3. 53 over par?!published at 17:02 British Summer Time 19 July

Statisticians from our friends at Sky Sports have put together a scorecard of the worst scores on each hole by players at The Open today.

    It's quite some reading.

    Out in 62, back in 62 for a 53-over-par 124.

Nobody has made worse than a bogey five on 18 though so, you know, take the positives.

  4. Postpublished at 17:00 British Summer Time 19 July

    McIlroy +12 (5)

Rory McIlroy has about 90 yards left to the sixth green - and it's absolutely flown. My word.

  5. Postage Stamp deliverspublished at 16:58 British Summer Time 19 July

    Niemann +4 (8)

Chile's Joaquin Niemann was rattling along nicely a couple of holes ago, at one under for the tournament after a couple of early birdies.

And then he reached the Postage Stamp. It's playing 118 yards today. In a brutal crosswind. There are five bunkers surrounding the green. Niemann went in three of them. A quintuple-bogey eight went on the card.

  6. Harman stops the rotpublished at 16:56 British Summer Time 19 July

    Harman +5, Hovland +7, Theegala +8 (6)

A welcome par for Brian Harman, after three straight bogeys, as his putt drops from about 15 feet.

Sahith Theegala makes a triple-bogey eight.

I think we can confidently say that conditions are much worse for the later starters today - birdies are VERY few and far between.

  7. Postage Stamp parspublished at 16:54 British Summer Time 19 July

    Fleetwood +5, MacIntyre +8, Rahm +3 (8)

Robert MacIntyre and Jon Rahm find the sand on the Postage Stamp - this won't be easy...

But they both get out of the trap at the first attempt Rahm having an easier shot and MacIntyre shouting "bunker" when he hits his as he thinks it's heading in the opposite trap, but it just catches the slope and rolls back down to five feet.

    Everyone makes par.

  8. Rose in contentionpublished at 16:54 British Summer Time 19 July

    Rose (-3) 14

At this point Justin Rose was four under and truly on the charge.

The experienced Englishman's momentum has halted somewhat, but he remains in the hunt.

  10. Birdie for Bob!published at 16:48 British Summer Time 19 July

    Fleetwood +5, MacIntyre +8, Rahm +3 (7)

Robert MacIntyre has a birdie! It's been a long time coming but on the seventh he has a smash at the green and launches one 325 yards before a nice short pitch of about 70 yards leaves him just four feet.

The roar for him rolling it in is as big as any we've had today as this crowd look to try and carry him back into the tournament - and to at least make the cut.

Fleetwood also makes a birdie on seven as he ducks back under the cut line.

Anon: Blaming celebrating winning the Scottish Open for today’s performance would ignore the solid round MacIntyre had yesterday.

  12. Leonard finishes uppublished at 16:47 British Summer Time 19 July

    Leonard +16 (78)

Justin Leonard, the 1997 champion at Troon who was given the honour of the opening tee shot of this year's tournament, has just played his final shot of this year's event.

He's carded a seven-over 78 to finish on 16 over for the tournament.

  13. Dropped shots galorepublished at 16:43 British Summer Time 19 July

    Hatton +4, Homa +7, McIlroy +12 (5)

Nope, it's not going to be Rory's day I'm afraid. McIlroy's short par putt breaks right - a lot - and it's another bogey for the Northern Irishman.

Max Homa's hopes of making the cut take a hit with a double bogey.

  14. Aberg & Bryson on the slidepublished at 16:41 British Summer Time 19 July

    Aberg +6, DeChambeau +6, Kim +6 (6)

Much like Tommy Fleetwood, Ludvig Aberg has collected a couple of quick bogeys to see him drop outside the cut mark, where he's joined by Tom Kim after he also bogeys the sixth.

Bryson DeChambeau had made five pars but his first dropped shot of the day on six sees him also slip to six over with work to do.

  15. Postpublished at 16:40 British Summer Time 19 July

    Rose (-3) 13

    Richard Winton
    BBC Scotland at Royal Troon

Justin Rose follows his bogey on 12 with a par on 13, chuntering about the wind as another putt stays above ground.

  16. Postpublished at 16:38 British Summer Time 19 July

    Fleetwood +6, MacIntyre +9, Rahm +3 (6)

Back-to-back bogeys for Tommy Fleetwood drops him outside the cut line so it's becoming a serious problem for the Englishman now.

Robert MacIntyre is grinding away looking to keep himself in the tournament, but for right now successive pars just steady the ship that's been taking on plenty of water since the start.

Anon: Amazed anyone is surprised by Robert MacIntyre struggles. Apparently you prepare for one of the four majors by going out on the lash days before, because you won a minor trophy. Imagine the furore if the England footballers did this. Yet, the golf community seem to find it quaint.

Not sure about this take - I think you celebrate your wins, live in the moment...

  18. Chip in!published at 16:33 British Summer Time 19 July

    Thomas +4 (12)

Justin Thomas badly needed something on this back nine and he's got in as he chips in from off the 12th green to make his second birdie in three holes.

It's been a tough old slog so far for the two-time US PGA champion but he's dragging himself away from that cut mark now after those two birdies.

  19. 'I got on with it'published at 16:32 British Summer Time 19 July

    Lowry -7 (69)

    BBC Radio 5 Live

Shane Lowry talking to BBC Sport's Andy StevensonImage source, BBC Sport

Earlier, Shane Lowry spoke to BBC Radio 5 Live's Andy Stevenson:

"It’s nice to shoot in the 60s. It was a very difficult day - the wind is very strong today, it’s not laying down at all, so I’m very happy with myself.

"Very happy about how I played. Obviously a bit of a mess-up on the 11th but I’m very happy with how I composed myself, moved on and got on with the rest of the round.

"It really feel like I played some great golf coming in and hopefully I can keep that going at the weekend."

On his 11th hole, where he made a double bogey: "Obviously I hit a poor second shot, rough snagged my club and a disaster of a position. I hit a great provisional shot and didn’t want to find my first ball.

"I didn’t think I had to find my first ball but apparently I did. If someone finds it you have to go and identify it, so just trying to figure out what the right thing to do was.

"I really felt like I stayed quite composed, really picked the right decision, did the right thing. I got on with it and played very well coming in."

Plans for later? "Probably go and watch a bit of golf. It’s my dad’s birthday so have a bit of a party with the kids, cake and all that jazz. Enjoy the evening and just chill out."
