    Aberg +10, DeChambeau +7, Kim +10 (11)

Bryson DeChambeau could be playing his way out the Open here on 12, as he bunts his chip out of the rough right through over the back of the green, then has to chip back onto the surface with his fourth.

At least one shot going here.

Mike: Was lucky enough to play Troon 10 years back. Had a decent round in beautiful conditions thanks to a fantastic caddy called Mike, who read the line on every putt and took the mickey when I used my ‘fearty’ club. Happy days.

  3. Watch: Rahm holes outpublished at 18:21 British Summer Time 19 July

    Rahm +2 (12)

'What a shot!' - Rahm chips in for birdie

Just one birdie for Jon Rahm today, and it came via this incredible pitch in from 40 yards out. But he's looked relatively comfortable and could just be warming to the task.

    Harman +5, Hovland +8, Theegala +12 (11)

Another hole safely negotiated by Brian Harman, who gets up and down from just off the green and saves par.

Hovering dangerously close to that cut line, he can't afford a golfing disaster on any of the holes coming home.

  5. Postpublished at 18:20 British Summer Time 19 July

    Aberg +10, DeChambeau +7, Kim +10 (11)

Bryson DeChambeau needs to get moving if he wants to make the weekend, but he needs to be a bit smarter as he's had another wild swing out of the rough from 209 yards on 12 but only fired it across into the rough - right next to a steward in a kilt funnily enough.

The merchandise tent at Royal Troon - or any Open, for that matter - is some place. It's always heaving with punters, emptying their pockets for all sorts of branded bits and bobs.

Particularly enjoying the use of the 'quiet please' signs to invite the next goody-laden customer forward to the tills...

  7. Fleetwood slips uppublished at 18:17 British Summer Time 19 July

    Fleetwood +8, MacIntyre +7, Rahm +2 (12)

Lovely bunker shot on 12 by Robert MacIntyre to stick it to a couple of feet and save his par, which is crucial for him so far and you can tell he knows it.

Tommy Fleetwood can't do the same from off the back of the green though and he's in big trouble now, while Jon Rahm does scramble successfully for a four as he continues to look pretty comfortable.

  8. Thomas makes the cutpublished at 18:12 British Summer Time 19 July

    Thomas +4 (78)

When Justin Thomas reached the turn nine over par for his round a couple of hours ago, not many would have had him coming back in 33 - but that's exactly what he's done.

An excellent recovery by the two-time major champion and he'll be around for the weekend.

  9. Postpublished at 18:10 British Summer Time 19 July

    Hatton +2, Homa +5, McIlroy +13 (10)

A trio of pars for this three-ball on the 10th.

Rory McIlroy is 28 holes into his 2024 Open and he has made ONE birdie. It came on the third hole yesterday, which feels an awfully long time ago.

  10. What will the cut be?published at 18:04 British Summer Time 19 July

The upturn in scoring over the past 20 minutes means the projected cut has bumped back to five over par.

But it's very fine margins and you'd expect it to keep changing.

Phil Mickelson (+5), Matt Fitzpatrick (+6), Tommy Fleetwood, Robert MacIntyre, Bryson DeChambeau (all +7) and Henrik Stenson - who is at eight over and won at Troon the last time it hosted The Open - will all be watching the cut line with interest.

  11. Postpublished at 18:03 British Summer Time 19 July

    Hatton +2, Homa +5, McIlroy +13 (9)

Fairly sure that Rory McIlroy took an iron off the 10th tee and it's gone 318 yards, reaching the end of the fairway and nestling in the light rough.

  12. Bogey for Brysonpublished at 18:02 British Summer Time 19 July

    Aberg +10, DeChambeau +7, Kim +9 (10)

Bryson DeChambeau hands a shot right back at the 10th, as he runs out of fairway off the tee, then flies the green and ends up having to take a drop for an unplayable lie.

He does well to escape with a five but he's slipped outside the cut mark again.

  13. Postpublished at 18:00 British Summer Time 19 July

    Harman +5, Hovland +8, Theegala +12 (10)

Brian Harman safely in for par at the 10th.

  14. Crucial parspublished at 17:56 British Summer Time 19 July

    Fleetwood +7, MacIntyre +7, Rahm +2 (11)

Tommy Fleetwood and Robert MacIntyre both make crucial pars on 11 as they chase the cut mark - they're both seven over but while MacIntyre seems up for the fight Fleetwood's shoulders are just a bit slumped as he seems a bit more at odds with himself right now.

  15. 'Very pleased'published at 17:55 British Summer Time 19 July

    Cantlay -1 (68)

    Patrick CantlayImage source, Getty Images

Patrick Cantlay was one of the picks of the morning wave with his three-under 68: "It was a really good round and actually I had a few putts that could have gone in on the back nine. I'm very pleased and in a good spot for the weekend.

"I feel like my game is in a good spot. Any time you get into contention and give yourself a chance, it kind of builds on itself and you can draw on those memories going forward in other big events."

On the challenge at Royal Troon: "It's definitely a different test. There are some shots where you're just trying to get it in the right areas and you're happy with par."

  16. Postpublished at 17:54 British Summer Time 19 July

    Hatton +2, Homa +5, McIlroy +13 (9)

Back-to-back birdies for Max Homa as this group reaches the turn, while Tyrrell Hatton makes a very good par save from 15 feet.

Rory McIlroy goes out in 42 and is six over for his round today, not helped by that triple-bogey eight on the fourth hole.

  17. 'Rose grew up on this stuff'published at 17:52 British Summer Time 19 July

    Rose -5 (68)

    Dan Rapaport
American golf journalist on BBC Radio 5 Live

Rose grew up on this stuff and he’s played very well at Augusta National and of all the American courses, it plays linksy and you have to play the lumps and bumps, you have a bunch of uneven lies, and a whole lot of rough.

So he’s definitely got comfortable on this layout.

  18. Postpublished at 17:52 British Summer Time 19 July

    Rose -5 (68)

A group of young fans are pleading with Justin Rose to give them a souvenir - tee pegs, balls, you name it!

And Rose obliges, before heading to the scorer's hut with a smile on his face.

  19. Postpublished at 17:50 British Summer Time 19 July

    Fleetwood +7, MacIntyre +7, Rahm +2 (10)

Robert MacIntyre booms his drive the furthest off the 11th tee, 361 yards to be exact, but he's the further away with his approach as they all miss the green in what's a tough wind for this hole.

  20. Rose birdies the lastpublished at 17:49 British Summer Time 19 July

    Rose -5 (68)

A birdie on 18 for Justin Rose! He holes his putt from a LONG way out and is five under for the championship, two behind Shane Lowry and tied for second with Dan Brown.

One of the biggest roars of the day.

A three-under 68 for Rose today - in these conditions, that's an astonishing score.

In the tournament at which he made his name 26 years ago, Rose is in a very good position to challenge for a first Claret Jug on Sunday.
