    Scheffler -7, McIlroy +3, Schauffele +1 (12)

Scottie Scheffler shows an actual sign of anger after his second shot at the 13th green lands only about a foot or two short of perfection and bounces off into the creek!

  2. Par savespublished at 23:00 British Summer Time 12 April

    Scheffler -7, McIlroy +3, Schauffele +1 (12)

All three of them have to work hard to make par on the 12th but they all walk off with threes, which is no mean feat considering the wind that's blowing around Amen Corner right now.

This is as windy as I have ever known it here. Everyone is having to hold on to their hats to stop them blowing across the course.

  5. Willett ready to 'press on'published at 22:48 British Summer Time 12 April

Danny Willett has been chatting about his triple bogey at the end of the second round, which sent him tumbling down the leaderboard: "It was a shame, but one of those things. I think one under after a couple of rounds, might be five or six back, but from where it's been, I'm in for the weekend, and can still make a run and have a good finish.

"We went in that front trap, and I thought the sand was all right, but with the wind making the sand drifts almost, and there was a hell of a lot of sand in front of it and not much in the front. Not the way you want to finish the day, but top 10 going into the weekend. Press on.

"Unfortunately when you get under the gun and start playing alright, you start thinking about different things. It will be lovely to be here on the weekend. Fingers crossed [the wind] is not pumping 50(mph) over the weekend.

"Fitness levels are fine. It was more just, like I said, the shots that you need to hit, there's still a couple out there that I can't quite [hit] yet."

Rory McIlroy's been blown off course and his Masters chances may have sunk after finding the water at 11, then missing a short bogey putt to end up with a six that drops him to three over.

He's actually looking over his shoulder at the cut line now, which I didn't think we'd be saying at the start of the day.

The difference between McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler there speaks volumes, as the world number one took a pragmatic, considered approach shot into the green while McIlroy's careless effort found the water and maybe ended his chances.

  8. DeChambeau bogeys the lastpublished at 22:42 British Summer Time 12 April

    DeChambeau -6 (73)

Right then Bryson, a nerve-shredding nine-footer to save par after a long putt falls short in the wind.

Can he make it? No! It slides by and DeChambeau has gifted his lead at the last.

He joins Max Homa in the clubhouse on six under, but Scottie Scheffler now stands alone at the top.

  9. Postpublished at 22:38 British Summer Time 12 April

    Rahm +4, Fitzpatrick -2, Dunlap +9 (11)

Jon Rahm has made 17 consecutive cuts in majors but could that be coming to an end here?

The Spaniard, who joined LIV Golf in December pulls his tee shot left on the 12th, but then recovers with a super putt from just off the green to give himself a fairly straightforward putt for par.

It is such a familiar, familiar process for Rory to be going through. I'm sorry but that is a really bad error from Rory McIlroy.

    DeChambeau -7 (17)

The elevated 18th green compels players to loft the ball and Bryson DeChambeau falls into the trap.

His ball is gobbled up by the wind and sent flying towards the back of the green.

We've seen plenty of tricky long putts on here down the years. Add Bryson from 65 feet to the annals.

  12. Rory in the waterpublished at 22:31 British Summer Time 12 April

    Scheffler -7, McIlroy +1, Schauffele E (10)

I've got no idea how these players are judging distances and what clubs to use as the wind is howling around Augusta - but Scottie Scheffler somehow finds a way to draw his ball onto the front edge of the 11th green.

Rory McIlroy can't though, as the wind gets hold of his ball and he can only watch in horror as it sails into the water protecting the putting surface.

    Rahm +4, Fitzpatrick -2, Dunlap +9 (11)

A bemused look from Jon Rahm as he paces across the 11th green.

His birdie putt is from downtown but it pulls up in rapido fashion and leaves a really testing distance just to save his four. Which the defending champion can't, much to his annoyance.

Fitzy's par run continues - almost like a modern day Sir Nick Faldo/Muirfield 1987 effort!

    DeChambeau -7 (17)

One last drive for Bryson DeChambeau to navigate through the gales.

He steps up to the 18th tee and hammers it 300 yards over the trees, his ball just clinging onto the right side of the fairway.

    Ten minutes from shelter, Bryson.

  15. 'I like where my game and head are at'published at 22:28 British Summer Time 12 April

    Homa -6 (72)

More from Max Homa, whose 71 moved him into the clubhouse lead on six under, on whether he can sustain his challenge over the weekend: "We'll see. I've never had that opportunity but I will lean on the nerves I had in the Ryder Cup and playing with Tiger in the past two days.

"I like where my golf game is at and I like where my head is. I will just enjoy it. I look forward to what challenges the weekend brings."

On playing with his hero Tiger Woods: "Sometimes you have to pinch yourself. It is an amazing experience just to play with him.

"I have always dreamt of watching him hit iron shots around this place and I was able to do it sitting next to him.

"He played so well. His aura, the respect the fans have for him and the joy he brings is awesome. It was great to compete with him."

  16. DeChambeau misses birdie puttpublished at 22:23 British Summer Time 12 April

    DeChambeau -7 (17)

That's a blow for Bryson DeChambeau as his putt lags right of the hole and his birdie chance disappears.

He'll stay at seven under going down the last.

  17. Triple bogey for Willettpublished at 22:20 British Summer Time 12 April

    Willett -1 (75)

Well, this has darkened Danny Willett's mood. An absolute card-wrecker.

For most of the day the Englishman has been smiling but, even though can still be happy overall, this will leave a bitter taste.

A triple bogey on the 18th ruins his chances of finishing even par today.

The bigger picture is, as we've been reminding you, pretty remarkable.

Willett has spent the past seven months watching golf from the sofa after shoulder surgery and this is his first tournament since.

  18. Postpublished at 22:18 British Summer Time 12 April

    DeChambeau -7 (16)

Bryson DeChambeau's drive was the longest of the day on the par-four 17th by fully 40 yards.

And he's made the most of it. An impeccable wedge drops pin high and just six feet away.

    Great chance to make birdie.

  19. Aberg happy despite tough conditionspublished at 22:18 British Summer Time 12 April

    Aberg -2 (69)

Debutant and world number nine Ludvig Aberg, speaking after posting the lowest round of the day so far: "It was not easy, but I felt like I played pretty good. I especially read the greens very well and hit the putts the way I wanted to. I think to get a score in today, I felt like that's probably what you almost have to do.

"It's just the gustiness of the winds. Obviously there's so much of it, so it's going to affect whatever shot you're going to hit, whether it's a putt or a chip or a full shot. I think it's just obviously kind of try to understand what that's going to do to the ball, which is obviously tricky.

"Augusta National is not the easiest of golf course even when you're playing in dead calm wind. So it just makes it a little bit trickier. You would prefer to putt from 40 feet than chip from 12. I think a lot of those times we're not necessarily trying to go for the pin, we're just giving ourselves chances, especially when the conditions are tough."

  20. Postpublished at 22:17 British Summer Time 12 April

    Willett -4 (17)

Oh no. This is going from bad to worse for Danny Willett.

He needs two stabs out of the bunker on the 18th and then eventually clubs it well long.

At least one dropped shot. Maybe two. Maybe worse..
