  1. Par opener for Hojgaardpublished at 13:06 British Summer Time 12 April

    Hojgaard -5 (16)

Perhaps a little bit of morning dew still on the greens as Nicolai Hojgaard's putt for birdie on 16 pulls up five feet short.

But he rolls in his par putt. Two more of those and he'll be delighted with his opening round and about 45 minutes to prepare for round two.

    Ready? Go!

The Augusta patrons were let in a little while ago and with no running allowed on the course, those at the front looked like Olympic race walkers as they quickly shuffled towards the best spots.

Augusta is bathed in beautiful morning sunlight. The type which makes you squint and warm inside.

Imagine the birds are chirpily cheeping.

  3. Play under waypublished at 13:01 British Summer Time 12 April

    Hojgaard -5 (15)

Denmark's Nicolai Hojgaard is among those finishing up this morning. He battled the increasingly blustery conditions late on last night to be at five under after 15 holes.

That means he starts with a daunting tee shot at the par-three 16th today. And he's made a decent fist of that. Landing it on the green and he will have a 20-footer to move within one of the lead.

  4. Like he was never awaypublished at 12:59 British Summer Time 12 April

    Woods -1 (13)

Tiger Woods still has five holes to play to complete his first round - but at one under par, he's looked in control at a golf course he loves.

This was how he got his latest Green Jacket quest started on day one of the Masters.

  6. We're back...published at 12:54 British Summer Time 12 April

The early birds are out catching the worm. I do not envy the alarm call of golfers.

Those who must finish their opening rounds are back out on the course.

Tiger Woods - wearing a smart gilet packed with only the finest feathers, I'm sure - doesn't look too comfortable as he strolls back out to the 14th.

There is a bit of a grimace and a gingerly pace.

Looks like me on the morning after 8-a-side football. Fingers crossed he'll loosen up quickly.

  7. DeChambeau 'back on track'published at 12:51 British Summer Time 12 April

Bryson DeChambeau almost looks like a different bloke these days.

The flat cap has been swapped for a LIV-branded snapback.

The pumped-up muscles have been slightly deflated.

The brash approach to Augusta - and golf generally - has softened.

Asked how his game has evolved in the past couple of years, a laughing DeChambeau said: "I feel like I hit a little further...

"Other than that I know the greens a little better, I'm more comfortable around the greens and more comfortable chipping. All in all I feel I'm a more well-rounded player.

"I searched for distance quite a bit and got thrown off the rocker a little bit. I got back on track and I'm hitting it beautifully. Let's see what the next three days brings."

  9. The state of playpublished at 12:47 British Summer Time 12 April

One man who only has to play 18 holes today is Bryson DeChambeau.

The 30-year-old American is the clubhouse leader after a patient and precise seven-under 65 yesterday.

DeChambeau seemed full of humbleness and contrition after changing his approach to play smart - and it paid dividends,

The LIV golfer finished seven under par but world number one Scottie Scheffler showed ominous touch in his bogey-free 66.

  10. Today's planpublished at 12:38 British Summer Time 12 April

For those players, who include Tiger Woods, Tommy Fleetwood and Jordan Spieth to name but a few, there is not much of a turnaround.

Play will resume at 07:50 local time (12:50 BST) when the first rounds resume, with the second round beginning at 08:00 (13:00 BST).

As custom dictates, the two halves of the tee times swap over which means some of the players finishing their opening rounds will have to go out again about an hour later.

Enough time for a trip to the loo, a pimento sandwich and a glug of water before they start the second round.

  11. A busy day aheadpublished at 12:34 British Summer Time 12 April

Now then! Feeling a bit bleary-eyed today? A tough working week taking its toll? Thirsty Thursday coming back to haunt you?

Or, more likely, you were up until gone 1am (presuming you're in the UK) following day one of the Masters.

It's been a short turnaround. Fire up the kettle, let's stay hydrated/caffeinated. There is a lot to cram in today.

That's because there was a delayed start yesterday after thunderstorms in Augusta, meaning nine groups - 27 players - have to finish their opening rounds today.

  12. Survival of the fittestpublished at 12:30 British Summer Time 12 April

Endurance is always the key at the Masters. Mental and physical sufferance.

You don't get sized up for the Green Jacket if you don't demonstrate that by the cart load over four days at Augusta National.

Mentally, can you continue to execute the shots - time after time after time - that you need to play in order to score well?

Physically, can you body stand up to the rigours of traipsing up and down contours which would burn the calves of most club golfers?

A survival of the fittest. Only the fittest will survive today.
