    DeChambeau -7 (7)

Lift-off for Bryson DeChambeau as he eyes the par-five eighth as a chance to put his foot on the accelerator.

He send his ball into orbit, launched 330 yards down the middle of the fairway.

Can he apply a bit of pressure to the chasing pack?

  2. Par startspublished at 19:07 British Summer Time 12 April

    Scheffler -6, McIlroy -1, Schauffele E (1)

Scottie Scheffler kicks off with a par as he starts his round still trailing Bryson DeChambeau by a shot.

Scoring is a lot tougher today than yesterday, so even Scheffler won't be able to match his first-round 66, will he?

Xander Schauffele and Rory McIlroy also pocket fours at the opening hole.

  3. Latest leaderboardpublished at 19:06 British Summer Time 12 April

Back to the summit for Bryson...

    -7 DeChambeau (7)

    -6 Hojgaard (15), Homa (12), Scheffler (1)

    -4 Willett (8)

    -3 Davis (F), Conners (6), Fox (5)

    -2 Niemann (3), Cantlay (3)

  4. Postpublished at 19:06 British Summer Time 12 April

    Hojgaard -6 (15)

Debutant Nicolai Hojgaard currently has just one player in front of him on the leaderboard (yep you are reading that correctly) and he takes the sensible option by laying up on the 15th.

The Dane has barely put a foot wrong but that'll go down as a slight error as he punches through the green. His return stops four feet from the pin and he drains his par putt.

  5. Bryson birdie takes the leadpublished at 19:02 British Summer Time 12 April

    DeChambeau -7 (7)

    That's more like it!

Perhaps he swigged a protein drink on his way down the seventh but Bryson DeChambeau has remembered how to putt and duly sunk a terrific birdie from 20 feet.

Just like that, he's back into the lead.

  6. Postpublished at 19:01 British Summer Time 12 April

    An -1 (5)

Not where Byeong Hun An would want to be on the par-three fourth as he flights his ball miles left of the green.

Can he still make a scrambling par...? Nope, his chip on leaves him a tricky six footer which he slightly misreads and misses left.

  7. Postpublished at 19:01 British Summer Time 12 April

    Woods +1, Day +2, Homa -6 (12)

Max Homa has a slight sniff of the outright lead, but he cannot convert a birdie putt on the 12th.

A good weight, a good line, but not quite right. Just past the left lip.

Instead, there is a leaderboard-changing roar elsewhere on the course...

  8. Eagle for Willett!published at 18:58 British Summer Time 12 April

    Willett -4 (8)

Remember that double bogey for Danny Willett on the fifth?

Well, he's just wiped that out in an instant by holing out from the eighth fairway for an eagle!

After driving into the bunker and clipping out, Willett is left with about 95 yards and hits the perfect wedge.

One bounce, two and straight down the drainpipe like a frightened rodent.

Marvellous moment for Willett, who moves back into fifth place on the leaderboard.

  9. Postpublished at 18:56 British Summer Time 12 April

    Rahm +1, Fitzpatrick -1, Dunlap +5 (1)

Jon Rahm gets his second round under way with what looks to be a touch of good fortune as his ball heads left before cannoning back off a tree onto the fairway.

The Spaniard almost carries the green with his second but his ball clings on to the back edge. He'll have sliding putt down the slope from that position, which he does well to navigate to ensure a par.

Matt Fitzpatrick is also on the putting surface in two, albeit left and 50 feet shy of the cup. The Englishman judges the pace just right mind and he'll have a tap in for par, which he rolls in.

  10. Postpublished at 18:54 British Summer Time 12 April

    Woods +1, Day +2, Homa -6 (11)

On to the 12th... where the wind can swirl around like it's Twister.

Tiger Woods has the honour and drills a short iron to the back of the green. Safety first.

Max Homa and Jason Day are less conservative, finding the middle of the green. Get on your dancing shoes!

Scottie Scheffler starts his second round by smacking a beauty of a drive right down the middle of the fairway - as if we expected anything else!

It looks like Rory McIlroy and Xander Schauffele have both found the right bunker. Both of them need to not look at Scottie today if he's in the same form and concentrate on their own games.

  12. Latest leaderboardpublished at 18:49 British Summer Time 12 April

Max Homa was flying solo for a few holes - now he's part of a fab four...

    -6 Hojgaard (14), Homa (11), DeChambeau (6), Scheffler (18:48 BST)

    -3 Davis (F), Conners (3), Fox (4)

    -2 Young (12), Willett (7), An (3), Niemann (2)

  13. Scheffler on another levelpublished at 18:48 British Summer Time 12 April

    Scheffler -6 (18:48 BST)

Why is the golfing world in awe of Scottie Scheffler? Well, just look at his results this year, where he's won twice, had three other top five finishes and come no lower than 17th.

    Scheffler 2024 results: T5, T17, T6, T3, T10, 1, 1, T2.

And if anything his scoring is even better, with 71 his worst score from 32 rounds played this year, breaking the 70 barrier 25 times in total with yesterday his 14th round shooting 66 or better.

It's just incredible consistency in a sport that's so hard to keep performing week in, week out.

  14. Bogey for Homapublished at 18:47 British Summer Time 12 April

    Woods +1, Day +3, Homa -6 (11)

Good job that Jason Day isn't wearing those much-maligned bedsheet trousers today.

They'd be flapping nineteen to the dozen on the windy 11th green.

Anyway... Max Homa's chip isn't quite as accurate as he hoped as the ball continues running on the ever-drying green.

A lot of life in this par putt... to much for Homa. He's missed it and goes back into the pack.

  15. DeChambeau misses another birdie puttpublished at 18:43 British Summer Time 12 April

    DeChambeau -6 (6)

Dearie me Bryson DeChambeau - what's happened to your putting?

Absolutely no conviction in that birdie putt and he's gesticulating as he walks off.

He's got so much power in those arms, but has seemingly forgotten how to channel it through his putter.

    A good chance spurned.

  16. Hojgaard into three-way tie for secondpublished at 18:43 British Summer Time 12 April

    Hojgaard -6 (13)

What do Bryson DeChambeau, Scottie Scheffler and Nicolai Hojgaard have in common?

Well at present they are all a shot off the lead in a tie for second at the Masters.

World number one Scheffler is out shortly of course but what esteemed company for Denmark's Hojgaard to be keeping.

The 23-year-old gets there with a fine iron shot to seven feet on the 14th and rolls in for his fourth birdie in six holes.

  17. Postpublished at 18:42 British Summer Time 12 April

    Woods +1, Day +2, Homa -7 (10)

Tiger Woods tries to punch his second shot low under the wind and onto the front of the green.

It's drifted off right, leaving with a tricky chip off the downslope.

The former world number one played a heck of a chip from a similar position yesterday.

    Can he repeat that trick?

Yes he can. Woods shows the same finesse and control again today with a beautifully-judged touch.

  18. Postpublished at 18:40 British Summer Time 12 April

    Woods +1, Day +2, Homa -7 (10)

Is there a more terrifying second shot in golf than the approach on Augusta's 11th hole?

Knees knock just thinking about it.

The drink on the left, the same hazard behind the green, the bunkers on the right, the narrow target to aim towards. Gulp.

Leader Max Homa plays relatively safe onto the ridge about 60 yards from the pin, which is right at the back of the green today.

  19. Postpublished at 18:36 British Summer Time 12 April

    Rahm +1, Fitzpatrick -1, Dunlap +5 (18:36)

Jon Rahm has got his work cut out if he wants to put himself in contention to defend his Masters title become only the fourth player to win here in successive years.

The Spaniard begins the second round eight shots worse off than 12 months ago and well down the leaderboard.

  20. Postpublished at 18:36 British Summer Time 12 April

    DeChambeau -6 (5)

A delicious tee shot from Bryson DeChambeau at the sixth rolls casually around the green and nestles 14 feet from the pin.

He'd gobble up a birdie here.
