Frances, Bernie, Jacqui and Peter are also flying the flag for Europe after jetting in from Northern Ireland a week ago.

The quartet from Galgorm Castle golf club have already played Twin Lakes and Stonewall, which is barely a Nelly Korda drive away over the water if she was teeing up at the back of the 18th green.

They are torn over whether Europe can get the job done again albeit Peter sounds mildly optimistic about their chances. "I think it'll be very close but Europe will just shade it. The course is in fantastic condition and there should be some cracking holes but it's expensive round here, a fresh lemonade set me back $10."

  2. Missed chancepublished at 13:26 British Summer Time 13 September

    Korda/Corpuz v Hull/Henseleit A/S (6)

Nelly Korda misses the chance to take the lead in this match for the first time - to be fair it's a lengthy putt over 20 feet, but she almost drains it.

There's not been the fireworks we expected in this match yet, but foursomes is like that and no doubt it will warm up sooner or later.

  3. Boutier holds her nervepublished at 13:25 British Summer Time 13 September

    Zhang/Coughlin v Boutier/Valenzuela A/S (5)

It's turning into a real battle in match two, with some stunning strokeplay from both the USA and Europe.

Switzerland's Albane Valenzuela almost pops in a spectacular approach shot to the fifth. The ball bounces, hits the pin, then dribbles away from the hole.

Rose Zhang piles on the pressure by sinking a birdie putt for USA but Celine Boutier responds to halve the hole for Europe.

    All square.

  4. Birdie for Vu inches US aheadpublished at 13:22 British Summer Time 13 September

    1UP Vu/Schmelzel v Ciganda/Grant A/S (3)

Another confident putting stroke from Lilia Vu and this seesaw final group ticks red once again.

They are yet to tie a hole through three and America lead by one.

  5. Three up for Europe!published at 13:19 British Summer Time 13 September

    Ewing/Kupcho v Stark/Pedersen 3UP (4)

Just a short three-footer for Maja Stark to roll in and put Europe three ahead after just four holes to take a stranglehold of this match.

Jennifer Kupcho's six-foot putt was a nervy jab of an effort which sums up the lack of confidence on the greens for this American pair.

Kupcho and Ally Ewing are tremendous players but as we said earlier, their Solheim Cup records are poor and right now they're showing why.

  6. Security's tightpublished at 13:14 British Summer Time 13 September

    Steve Sutcliffe

There are plenty of course marshals and security staff dotted all around the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club.

And Petr Korda, the dad of world number one Nelly Korda has just had a rather snappy exchange of views with one on the fifth hole after it appears he was stopped around the back of the fourth green.

The former Australian Open champion looked a little bemused, pointing out he had the correct accreditation on him.

  7. Scruffy from Europepublished at 13:13 British Summer Time 13 September

    Korda/Corpuz v Hull/Henseleit A/S (5)

A messy hole for Europe basically hands it to America, as Charley Hull tried to be just too cute with a difficult chip out of the greenside rough.

You can see what she was trying to do as it was lightning quick down the hill as soon as the ball hit the green.

Perhaps she would have been better just getting it on the short stuff and giving Esther Henseleit a putt for par.

Either way, America take the hole and level the match.

  8. Fourth hole halvedpublished at 13:11 British Summer Time 13 September

    Zhang/Coughlin v Boutier/Valenzuela A/S (4)

Really high class golf in this foursome in match three.

European pair Celine Boutier and Albane Valenzuela eagle the fourth hole, but Rose Zhang and Lauren Coughlin go on to do likewise.

Nip and tuck. Nothing to choose between these four at the moment.

  9. Europe 2UP!published at 13:09 British Summer Time 13 September

    Ewing/Kupcho v Stark/Pedersen 2UP (3)

Emily Pedersen rolls in a three-footer to win the third hole and putt Europe two ahead in this match.

She was set up nicely by Maja Stark's approach, which took a member's bounce at the front of the green before settling in what's almost gimme range.

    Good start for the Europeans.

Fortunately that wasn't the experience for Steve yesterday...

Ever wondered what the walk is like out to the first tee?

Well here you go, minus blaring music and some over-excited fans of course!

A rather nicer-looking day when you took that video too, Steve. It's a bit dreary out there at the moment on the shore of Lake Manassas.

  12. Europe level in final matchpublished at 13:07 British Summer Time 13 September

    Vu/Schmelzel v Ciganda/Grant A/S (2)

Calm putt from Linn Grant and the US advantage is wiped out in the final group.

As it stands, Europe up in two and tied in two.

  13. Fore!published at 13:06 British Summer Time 13 September

    Korda/Corpuz v Hull/Henseleit 1UP (4)

Esther Henseleit pulls her approach to the par-five fifth into the crowd just left of the green, prompting a huge shout of 'fore!' which is good to hear as it's not always used in the professional game.

    Advantage USA here...

    1UP Vu/Schmelzel v Ciganda/Grant (1)

Huge roars at the second as Lilia Vu wizards an approach out of the fairway bunker and dials it to 10 feet.

Europe's Carlota Ciganda bests her though with a marvellous shot of her own to four feet.

Birdie chances apiece in the fourth match.

  15. Europe back level in match twopublished at 13:01 British Summer Time 13 September

    Zhang/Coughlin v Boutier/Valenzuela A/S (3)

American Rose Zhang overcooks her putt for par on the third, which opens the door for Europe to get back on terms in the second grouping.

Frenchwoman Celine Boutier confidently sinks for par.

Europe's highest ranked player nonchalantly scoops her ball up without a flicker of emotion. Game head on.

    Ewing/Kupcho v Stark/Pedersen 1UP (2)

Maja Stark and Emily Pedersen put another spot of blue on the board by winning the second with a par four - it's always a nice bonus when par wins you the hole in this format.

Sue and Paul Roberts were out early on the course on Tuesday and were hoping that a friend with a quicker turn of pace than them would help secure them a coveted spot on the first tee this morning.. if you're reading, let us know if you made it!

They are at their fifth event, having only missed the last away fixture because of the Covid restrictions. And they wanted to give a big shout-out to their club - South Kyme, near Sleaford in Lincolnshire.

Paul promised me had a better European outfit for the matchdays and it would be difficult to miss him...

A chance for Lilia Vu to take the lead in the final group as she takes aim from 15 feet. Drained.

USA up in two matches in the early stages.

Those fan issues appear to have translated onto the course. Normally you'd expect a match featuring world number one Nelly Korda and the hugely popular Charley Hull to have a far bigger following heading onto the fourth hole, which has a superb vantage point at the back of the green.

  20. Europe ahead againpublished at 12:53 British Summer Time 13 September

    Korda/Corpuz v Hull/Henseleit 1UP (4)

Esther Henseleit tugs a birdie putt to win the hole, which she knew right away as it must have come off the blade slightly askew, but Nelly Korda than surprisingly misses from about five feet to hand the hole to Europe.

That's a three-putt bogey for the USA which really, really annoys these top players.
