Bryson DeChambeau finds the green on the par-three sixth but fails to hole the 20-footer across the putting surface. He's not sure how and looks on with shock. But it's a tap-in par.
Justin Rose, from a similar distance is also close with his birdie try and ticks off a par.

A steady par for McIlroy after that drive is no bad thing.
Before he addressed his lengthy birdie putt on the fourth, he took the opportunity to peruse the electronic leaderboard that overlooks the green.
He will have clocked Scottie Scheffler's impressive 68. Matching that would be a heroic effort under the circumstances.

While most of the attention is with Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose and others, Christiaan Bezuidenhout has quietly moved to -3 with a run of three birdies on holes five, six and seven.
Looks to be a very competitive front nine from the South African.

Eagles have been rarer than hen's teeth today but Lucas Glover has one in the bag at the second hole. The American made a birdie on he first as well.

In the mood for some ominous Scottie Scheffler stats?
Today, he hit just three fairways - his worst performance off the tee at any major as a pro, other than the first round of the 2021 US Open – when he hit just two fairways.
His driving accuracy was a mere 21.4%, ranked him almost at the bottom of the field.
And yet, he is just one shot off the lead.
No wonder these pre-Open predictions from Opta had him as such a clear favourite.

Matt Fitzpatrick has been reflecting on his opening round of 67, his best start to a major:
"The Open venues haven't necessarily been great to me. I've not necessarily been playing great when I've come here either.
"I like this golf course. I think it's a very fair test. It rewards good golf shots. I think sometimes links doesn't do that to you, and there's plenty of courses that we play or I've played at links golf that don't necessarily do that. But I think this is a fantastic golf course.
"I wouldn't say I particularly enjoy playing links golf. It's just a grind all the time and I like a grind, but sometimes it's a grind with low scoring, and that's what I find difficult
"I don't see links golf as super easy. I shot 4-under today, holed an eagle putt, chipped in, and I still feel like it was a grind out there.
"I don't know if it's just the way I see the game but I feel like I've got the shots to play well. I hit it as low as anyone out here, so it should stay out of the wind.
"But I just don't think it's necessarily as easy as some of these guys make it look."
