    Fans have swarmed round the green at the for the birdie putt...and they go wild when he sinks it.

    The Northern Irishman now just one shot off the lead.

    Viktor Hovland found the longer grass off the 10th tee and it ends up with a 10-foot putt for par missing the target.

    After such a promising showing at the US Open last month, it's not looking quite so good for the Norwegian today.

    Lucas Glover is about an inch away from going into the outright lead of the 153rd Open Championship.

    A 30-footer for birdie looks right on line but then dives left at the final moment.

    And now we find him on the 10th hole at Royal Portrush, fittingly called the Himalayas.

    All things considered, that is a satisfying front nine from McIlroy. There's plenty of murmuring in the crowd about the latest weather warning.

    It's up on the leaderboard for all to see. It's impossible to really tell when it's going to turn out here. This group have certainly got lucky so far.

    The crowd hold their breath as Rory McIlroy attempts to roll in a monster put on the ninth, but sees it whistle a couple of inches past the hole. He two putts for par.

    "Keep going, Rory!" bellows one fan.

    Tommy Fleetwood bogeys the hole - his third of the day - paying the price for a poor tee shot.

    Successive bogeys for Bob MacIntyre, who drops another on the par-four 10th, and the Scot drops back into the group on one under.

    He's now alongside Justin Rose on one under, after he makes a par, just like Bryson DeChambeau.

    Maverick McNealy almost joins the party at the top of the leaderboard but his birdie attempt on 11 is just short of the cup.

    Three birdies and no bogeys on the card through 11 holes.

    It's been a bruising hour or so for Aaron Rai since he briefly co-led the tournament at four under par.

    Three consecutive bogeys tumbled him down the leaderboard but a birdie at 12 has him trending in the right direction again.

    He joins the scrum at two under.

    You have to play to the conditions and obviously the morning people had definitely the worse end of the draw.

    The scores from this morning from Olesen, Fitzpatrick and Scheffler were great.

    I think this afternoon if it stays like this, we might maybe see someone sneak to five under or six under.
