  1. Hatton two off leadpublished at 14:39 British Summer Time 14 June

    Hatton -3, Fleetwood +1 (7)

Tommy Fleetwood finds the left edge of the seventh green. The flag is over on the right. But Tommy's troubles don't end there. His ball catches one of those treacherous run-off slopes, taking him further and further from the hole.

He elects to putt up the hill. It's a poor choice. His effort pulls up a good 25 feet short of the hole. And he misses the par putt. Another bogey on the card.

Tyrrell Hatton, meanwhile, has fired a pin-seeker in from 105 yards and rolled in the six-footer to get to within two of the lead

  2. Kaymer in contentionpublished at 14:32 British Summer Time 14 June

    Kaymer -2 (4*)

Martin Kaymer rolls in a second birdie of the day and at two under he's just three shots off the lead - the 2014 champion here really does love in around Pinehurst.

  3. Postpublished at 14:29 British Summer Time 14 June

    MacIntyre +2 (7)

Robert MacIntyre is finding it tough work today after two bogeys in his first five holes sees him drop back to two over, but he at least steadies the ship with pars on six and seven.

  4. Bogey for Homapublished at 14:26 British Summer Time 14 June

    DeChambeau -2, Homa +2, Hovland +7 (5)

Max Homa gets out of the bunker and lands on the green, but before he can think of a potential par putt, the ball is still moving slowly before eventually picking up pace and being dragged into greenside bunker on the left.

His bunker exit attempt, his fifth shot on the par-five fifth, is as good as perfect and leaves himself with a short putt for bogey, which he takes.

Viktor Hovland and Bryson DeChambeau have big opportunities for birdies with 13-foot putts up the hill. Hovland is only able to take par.

Similar hard luck for DeChambeau, who misses the chance to move back up to three-under-par.

  5. Missed puttspublished at 14:22 British Summer Time 14 June

    McIlroy -3, Schauffele E, Scheffler +2 (6*)

    SchefflerImage source, Getty Images

Three rather angry players walk off the 15th green after none of them could convert their putts, as the pin placement here is a tough one.

Scottie Scheffler shows his frustration the most as he tosses his putter away after his par putt just failed to drop, and when Xander Schauffele misses a birdie try on the low side, Rory McIlroy overborrows and misses on the high side!

The really bad news for McIlroy is that his putt was also for par so he drops back further with his second bogey of the day, while Scheffler drops his first shot today as he still struggles to find his game in this tournament.

  6. Homa struggling on the fifthpublished at 14:18 British Summer Time 14 June

    DeChambeau -2, Homa +1, Hovland +7 (4)

Bryson DeChambeau and Max Homa find themselves in a bit of trouble on the par-five fifth, stuck in the native area of sand and long grass on the left of the fairway.

While Homa's attempted wood shot carries all of 62 yards when there was absolutely no need to take that route, DeChambeau goes big, gets out of the rough and puts himself on the edge of the green, alongside Viktor Hovland from 219 yards away with his second shot.

Homa's second attempt out of the rough is with an iron. It is better, but still not long enough and 70 yards short of the flag and in a bunker.

A big ask for Homa to get that up and down from there for par.

  7. Birdies for Englishmenpublished at 14:17 British Summer Time 14 June

    Hatton -2, Fleetwood E (5)

    Par-bogey-birdie-bogey-birdie.

That's Tommy Fleetwood's card today. He's just played the par-four fifth in four strokes. About as straightforward as you're going to get at Pinehurst.

Excellent drive, power a second into the front of the green and down in two from there.

Tyrrell Hatton plays the hole in almost identical fashion and he too is picking up a birdie. Simple game.

  8. Another birdie for Schauffelepublished at 14:10 British Summer Time 14 June

    McIlroy -4, Schauffele E, Scheffler +1 (5*)

They've got the 14th flag surrounded with three quality approach shots, but while Rory McIlroy misses from 11 feet and Scottie Scheffler misses from seven feet, Xander Schauffele converts from six feet for birdie.

That levels up his scorecard for the day with back-to-back birdies erasing his two early bogeys.

  9. Postpublished at 13:56 British Summer Time 14 June

    DeChambeau -2, Homa +1, Hovland +7 (4)

Max Homa's short game around the edges of the green has been superb today.

Needing to scramble to put himself in good range for a par putt on the fourth, Homa chips out of the greenside bunker to within a few feet of the pin.

In similar distances from the pin, but on grass, Bryson DeChambeau and Viktor Hovland also put themselves in good spots to make par, DeChambeau with the wedge and Hovland with the putter.

DeChambeau, putting down the slope, takes it slow, but makes it count.

Homa makes light work of his par putt, as does Hovland.

  10. Birdie for Xanderpublished at 13:56 British Summer Time 14 June

    McIlroy -4, Schauffele +1, Scheffler +1 (4*)

Xander Schauffele takes an absolute age over his five-foot putt for birdie on 13, but when you see how he barely touches the ball to get it rolling down the hill you realise why so much care was needed over it.

It gets him back to one over anyway, alongside Scottie Scheffler who saved par nicely after racing his long birdie try well past the hole.

  11. Straka strickenpublished at 13:51 British Summer Time 14 June

    Straka +3 (3)

Pinehurst hammers Sepp Straka in a really cruel manner after the big Austrian hit the flag with his approach on the third.

His accuracy was punished by the ball spinning back off the green and into the bunker, and with a scrambled mind he's then hit his escape too hard and it's rolled all the way across the green into the native area as it's called on the opposite side!

He then scratches around getting back onto the green and eventually knocks it in for a triple-bogey seven.

    Golf eh!

  12. Postpublished at 13:48 British Summer Time 14 June

    Hatton -1, Fleetwood +1 (4)

Tyrrell Hatton's putting radar is not quite working today. He's playing largely sensible golf, aiming for the centre of greens. That leaves him a 30-footer or so for birdie. But again his putt fails to threaten the hole and he'll have a three-footer for par.

Here's Tommy with the par-saver... he wheels away in frustration as his ball fails to drop. Yo-yo start for Fleetwood.

  13. Postpublished at 13:41 British Summer Time 14 June

    Fleetwood E (3)

"Stay there, stay there." The voice of Tommy Fleetwood talking to his ball after it ricochets back off the flagstick on the fourth green and threatens to tumble off the front.

His ball obeys but he'll have to hole that from about 12 feet for par after driving into the scrub and only being able to advance his ball 80 yards down the fairway with his second shot.

  14. Postpublished at 13:39 British Summer Time 14 June

    McIlroy -4, Schauffele +2, Scheffler +1 (3*)

Scottie Scheffler has the best chance of a birdie after a nice approach, but he lets his 12 footer slide by the right edge, and waves an arm out in disgust at that attempt.

  15. Hossler's rough startpublished at 13:38 British Summer Time 14 June

    Hossler +10 (4)

American Beau Hossler is having a tough start to the day.

In his last three holes, Hossler has dropped six shots, with bogeys on holes two and four and an eight on the par-four third.

He is six-over-par for the second round after four holes, having carded a four-over-par score of 74 in his first round.

  16. Postpublished at 13:36 British Summer Time 14 June

    Kaymer -1 (1*)

Martin Kaymer makes the perfect start to his second round with a birdie on the par-five 10th hole, his first hole of the day.

The German won the US Open here back in 2014 of course, and this is the last year of his 10-year exemption he gets to play as a past champion, and is obviously feeding off those familiar Pinehurst vibes so far.

  17. Bogey for Bobpublished at 13:34 British Summer Time 14 June

    MacIntyre +1 (4)

    Bob MacIntyreImage source, Getty Images

Robert MacIntyre gives one away in disappointing fashion at the fourth, having produced a brilliant chip up over the bunker to leave five feet to save his par.

It was a nervy jab of a putting stroke though and means his hard work is undone as he slips over par for the tournament.

  18. Postpublished at 13:33 British Summer Time 14 June

    DeChambeau -2, Homa +1, Hovland +7 (3)

Near misses on the third as Bryson DeChambeau and Viktor Hovland have birdie chances, but are unable to take them on a turning green from distance.

In both cases, the ball moved from left to right earlier than hoped.

Max Home continues his par-start for the day, holing out from just over six feet for his third par in as many holes following a tidy chip on.

A tough five-footer does not faze DeChambeau, putting well to save par. Hovland matches him for par from a few feet.

  19. Fairway finderpublished at 13:27 British Summer Time 14 June

    McIlroy -4, Schauffele +2, Scheffler +1 (2*)

    Rory McIlroyImage source, Getty Images

OK, so Rory McIlroy has just played what is described as a "fairway finder" which is meant to be an easy swing, lower risk than a full-blown drive and keeping it low to chase along the fairway.

McIlroy's "fairway finder" went about 60 feet high, but carried about 280 yards then ran out to 330 yards dead straight down the middle of the fairway.

And when I say dead straight, I mean the shot tracer had it with just one foot of curve to it - that's frozen rope territory.

It's a thing of beauty this drive, I could watch it all day on repeat - that's some fairway finder....

  20. Birdie for Tommypublished at 13:26 British Summer Time 14 June

    Hatton -1, Fleetwood E (3)

On to the par-four third for the English pair. And Tommy Fleetwood strikes straight back. A lovely iron into the heart of the green leaves him a dozen feet for birdie and he pours it in.

Tyrrell Hatton is safely in for par. His 30-footer for birdie never threatened the hole but he tidies up.
