How Europe retained the Ryder Cup on the 18th

  1. Postpublished at 20:37 BST

    DeChambeau v Fitzpatrick 3UP (13)

Matt Fitzpatrick goes straight through the back of the green on the par-three 14th.

That will not help take the juice out of an energised Bryson DeChambeau, who finds the putting surface and is almost speed walking to get over to his ball.

  2. Postpublished at 20:37 BST

    Scheffler A/S McIlroy (12)

Straightforward chip for Scottie Scheffler. Four feet for his four.

Rory McIlroy is hard against the stand and needs to flip this one up and land it so softly. Does just that. Almost hit it too well and it pulls up a bit short.

He'll be first to putt. Eight feet.

  3. Thomas fighting hardpublished at 20:37 BST

    Thomas v Fleetwood A/S (14)

Thomas holes 12th to reclaim lead against Fleetwood in America fightback

A little earlier, Justin Thomas won three holes on the bounce to go from two down to one up against Tommy Fleetwood.

However, it's all square at the moment after Fleetwood pegged one back.

Dave: How about fining 'get in the holers' a swearbox type donation to a charity of the golf tournament's choice to turn this audial blight into a positive?

Lee: Even if the Americans manage to pull off a miraculous comeback, this edition of the Ryder Cup would not be remembered for said comeback.

Jon: Chuffing Nora, edge of the seat stuff, cmon europa

Stuart: Arguably shot of the Ryder cup from Rose from that position and that delay, that is flipping insane.

  5. McIlroy levels against Schefflerpublished at 20:36 BST

McIlroy steadies Europe with birdie on 11th to level against Scheffler

Rory McIlroy has been looking tired today but a couple of stunning putts have lit up his round.

This was one of them at the 11th.

  6. Hojgaard hanging toughpublished at 20:35 BST

    1UP Griffin v Hojgaard (10)

Solid stuff from Rasmus Hojgaard to roll in a putt from 11 feet for the half against Ben Griffin after the American had landed a 20 footer.

The young Dane is hanging on in there just one down.

  7. Fitzpatrick fending off DeChambeaupublished at 20:34 BST

    DeChambeau v Fitzpatrick 3UP (13)

Bryson DeChambeau is on the dance floor in two. Matt Fitzpatrick isn't but the Englishman goes flag hunting with his wedge to thrill the European fans around the green.

With Fitzy in at four feet any hopes of BDC pinching another hole back disappear. And the American is running out of opportunities.

  8. Thomas fluffs a chancepublished at 20:32 BST

    Thomas v Fleetwood (14) A/S

Justin Thomas stands wide to the right of the tee box at the 14th and plops it on to the green. He has a chance to win the hole with a putt from about 10 feet, but rolls it wide.

Thomas bends his knees in frustration. Tommy Fleetwood scuttles off to the 15th hole stifling a smirk.

  9. 'Safe as houses'published at 20:32 BST

    David Cheeseman
BBC senior journalist at Bethpage Black

Sandy and Joe - European fans

I've just spoken to a couple of European fans out on course. Sandy and Joe are waiting to watch on the 15th tee.

They’re not worried at all as they see US red appear on a nearby scoreboard

“Safe as houses. Never in doubt!”

Their mate Rory agrees. He believes it’ll still be an “absolute whitewash” by close of play.

  10. Postpublished at 20:31 BST

    Scheffler A/S McIlroy (12)

Par-five 13th. Rory McIlroy powers a fairway wood through the back of the green. That will have looked good in the air.

Scottie Scheffler into a very similar spot, with a better lie I'd say.

These two have got the look of a couple of heavyweights in the 10th round now. Clinging on to each other for a breather every 30 seconds or so.

  11. As tight as everpublished at 20:30 BST

    Five red, three blue

There is more red on the board than blue - but still plenty of breathing space for Team Europe as things stand.

  12. Schauffele extends leadpublished at 20:26 BST

    2UP Schauffele v Rahm (11)

Jon Rahm is in trouble here.

Xander Schauffele has all the momentum in his favour now and zips into three feet, while the Spaniard is only able to find the middle of the green with his second and will be putting from over 30 feet.

The American rolls in for birdie and a two-hole lead.

  13. Two parspublished at 20:26 BST

    Cantlay v Aberg 1UP (11)

Ludvig Aberg and Patrick Cantlay make pars to halve the 11th as the Swede keeps his nose in front, which he's doing an excellent job at.

We know what a fighter Cantlay is in these tight matches though...

  14. 'Rose ignited, Young shell-shocked'published at 20:25 BST

    1UP Young v Rose (14)

    Catriona Matthew
Captain of Team Europe at the 2019 & 2021 Solheim Cup on BBC Radio 5 Live

I think that shot on the last hole from the stands has just ignited Justin Rose.

Cameron Young a little shell-shocked after those last two holes.

  15. Rose wins another!published at 20:23 BST

    1UP Young v Rose (14)

Justin Rose has found his putter again, as he drains one of the 14th to get in ahead of Cameron Young, and the American then crumbles under the pressure and misses from six feet to lsoe the hole.

    Rose now just one down.

  16. Fleetwood all squarepublished at 20:22 BST

    Thomas v Fleetwood (13) A/S

Tommy Fleetwood stymies Justin Thomas' momentum.

The Englishman has ice running through his veins and sinks a crucial putt from about 20 feet to heap the pressure on his opponent.

Thomas is much closer, but pushes it wide. Back level in match two.

  17. Spaun edges aheadpublished at 20:22 BST

    1UP Spaun v Straka (10)

Lovely approach from JJ Spaun on the 10th and the US Open champion drops that in the front door to take the lead.

    US up in another match.

  18. Advantage Schauffelepublished at 20:21 BST

    1UP Schauffele v Rahm (10)

Jon Rahm pays the price for a loose one from the tee with his bogey opening the door for his American opponent to edge ahead.

Just go out there and win your point they say, don't worry about the score. Not that easy with these huge scoreboards at Bethpage Black though.
