How Europe retained the Ryder Cup on the 18th

  1. Henley back levelpublished at 20:16 BST 28 September

    Henley A/S Lowry A/S (9)

We spoke too soon about this one. Russell Henley raises his ball to salute the crowd after drawing level against Shane Lowry with a solid putt at the ninth.

What has the Irishman got left in the tank for the back nine?

  2. Splash!published at 20:15 BST 28 September

    1UP Griffin v Hojgaard (8)

Ben Griffin somehow wins the eighth hole with a bogey thanks to Rasmus Hojgaard finding the water with his tee shot.

Awful way to lose a hole for the Dane.

  3. Big guns still tiedpublished at 20:14 BST 28 September

    Scheffler A/S McIlroy (12)

Scottie Scheffler makes a solid four.

Rory McIlroy has a more makeable putt. can he roll another long one in?

No. And that was a friendly concession by Scheffler. Could easily have seen that.

    Scoreboard, five red, three blue
  5. Rose wins the hole!published at 20:13 BST 28 September

    2UP Young v Rose (13)

Justin Rose strokes home his birdie, of course he does, how could he not after that shot from nowhere.

Keegan Bradley gives him a glare as he walks past, the US skipper also giving the stink eye to the rules official as well. He's seemingly still unhappy with the drop Rose got in the woods.

  6. Incredible!published at 20:10 BST 28 September

    3UP Young v Rose (12)

What!? Justin Rose is who knows where behind the 13th green, with US captain Keegan Bradley disputing an original ruling of a drop and making the Englishman play from a horrid spot right next to the grandstand.

Rose takes a swipe, the ball goes high up and over everything and lands on the green - and only about five feet away!

    Amazing!

  7. 'Come on then'published at 20:10 BST 28 September

    DeChambeau v Fitzpatrick 3UP (12)

    Kat Downes
Golf commentator on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

Matt Fitzpatrick turns to the crowd behind him and says ‘settle down’ – yes he’s giving them a gesture, a face that says ‘come on then, if Bryson can do it, I can too’.

  8. Calm downpublished at 20:10 BST 28 September

    DeChambeau v Fitzpatrick 3UP (12)

Matt Fitzpatrick and Bryson DeChambeau both find the dance floor on the 12th and both have birdie putts albeit from opposite sides of the flag.

The Englishman looks marginally closer so BDC is up first and his reaction, following the ball down its line and then springing up and punching the air would be right at home in WWE.

The American has the crowd pumped...and walks off stalking the green. How will Fitzpatrick follow that? By draining his effort from 15 feet and motioning for everyone to calm down.

One or two chants of 'Yorkshire' follow that. The Sheffield United fan is staying strong.

  9. Lowry holding uppublished at 20:07 BST 28 September

    Henley v Lowry 1UP (8)

Shane Lowry is ticking along, holding his nerve, against Russel Henley.

The US are going to need a few more of these matches to swing red.

  10. Postpublished at 20:05 BST 28 September

    Schauffele A/S Rahm (9)

Xander Schauffele finds the putting surface on the 10th in two. Jon Rahm is still back on the fairway after slinging his tee shot into a fairway bunker.

  11. 'Monster from McIlroy'published at 20:04 BST 28 September

    Scheffler A/S McIlroy (11)

    Iain Carter
BBC golf correspondent on BBC Radio 5 Live at Bethpage Black

At the very first opportunity McIlroy bounces back and levels the match.

These two heavyweights have been shadow boxing. No-one has landed a blow until then. That was a monster from McIlroy.

  12. Postpublished at 20:03 BST 28 September

    Scheffler A/S McIlroy (11)

You know the 'Rory bounce'? It's back.

Did not celebrate that putt with any thing more than a little fist pump. But he climbs into that drive and despatches it down the middle.

Scottie Scheffler joins him. There is three feet between them on the 12th fairway.

  13. As it standspublished at 20:01 BST 28 September

    Everybody calm down.

    Three red, three blue
  14. Rory rolls in a bombpublished at 20:01 BST 28 September

    Scheffler A/S McIlroy (11)

From downtown, Scottie Scheffler. A bit shy and Rory McIlroy will see that, thanks very much.

He won't need to if he can roll this uphill 25-footter in.

    AND HE CAN!

All square in the glamour tie.

  15. Aberg ahead!published at 20:00 BST 28 September

    Cantlay v Aberg 1UP (10)

Ludvig Aberg nudges ahead of Patrick Cantlay with a par on the 10th being enough after the American missed the green with his approach and could only knock it to 16 feet.

Solid effort from the Swede for his four.

  16. Fitzpatrick holds firmpublished at 19:58 BST 28 September

A few boos on the 11th as Matt Fitzpatrick asks Bryson DeChambeau to hole out from just under three feet for a half.

The American obliges and marches off towards the 11th with a little tap of encouragement from his captain Keegan Bradley.

  17. Thomas now in frontpublished at 19:57 BST 28 September

    1UP Thomas v Fleetwood 11)

Justin Thomas' chest is puffed out.

He lands his iron from the tee at the 12th within a comfortable distance of the hole. He nails the putt.

Tommy Fleetwood has something considerably further away and misses.

The American has flipped this match on its head.

  18. Postpublished at 19:57 BST 28 September

    1UP Scheffler v McIlroy (10)

Both players safely aboard the 11th green. Lot to do to make a three though.

  19. Fore!published at 19:56 BST 28 September

    3UP Young v Rose (12)

Cameron Young in the bunker on 13 so has to just pitch it out - so the door is open for Justin Rose, but he hits a wild slice with a fairway wood and his ball disappears into the trees.

Young then sticks it to eight feet with his third. This one looks done.

  20. Schauffele & Rahm trade birdiespublished at 19:55 BST 28 September

    Schauffele A/S Rahm (9)

Xander Schauffele and Jon Rahm match birdie with birdie on the ninth.

Neither are giving an inch at the minute but if this match were to turn red the heat would be right on Luke Donald's European team.
