How Europe retained the Ryder Cup on the 18th

  1. Postpublished at 18:30 BST 28 September

    Scheffler A/S McIlroy (4)

Scottie from the rough again. Managed it on the last hole but this time doesn't get the connection he expected and that's short. Bunker.

Now Rory. From the short stuff. From 143 yards. He is walking after that... and we know what that means.

    He's got 12 feet for a three.

  2. Match ninepublished at 18:29 BST 28 September

    Griffin v Hojgaard (18:30 BST)

This is a hard one to call, because we have only seen them once this week.

It perhaps feels a bit harsh that Rasmus Hojgaard has only been seen once this week so far, as he wasn't terrible in Friday's fourballs.

Ben Griffin looked shaky at times in those opening fourballs though, but he is a fine player.

Likely to be a good one to watch - these two don't die wondering.

  3. 'Is it Brookline? Are we going back?'published at 18:29 BST 28 September

    Thomas v Fleetwood 1UP (6)

    Andrew Magee
PGA Tour winner on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

Is it Brookline? Are we going back? Even Fleetwood’s got to smile.

  4. Brilliant from Thomaspublished at 18:29 BST 28 September

What a shot from Justin Thomas!

His iron shot to approach the green at the sixth plops straight into the hole. He has clawed one back against Tommy Fleetwood.

Thomas, usually prone to whipping up the crowd at any opportunity, manages to keep his emotions in check.

  5. Pars on threepublished at 18:28 BST 28 September

    Cantlay v Aberg 1UP (3)

Ludvig Aberg keeps his lead over Patrick Cantlay as both make pars at the third, the par three, with the Swede hitting his shot closer but still 17 feet away so only a half chance.

  6. Schauffele doubles his leadpublished at 18:27 BST 28 September

    2UP Schauffele v Rahm (2)

Jon Rahm is struggling as he wanders right off the tee on the second and then struggles to stays on the back of the second green with his approach out of the trees.

An up and down means he can only post a four and Xander Schauffele takes full advantage, draining a slippery 17-foot putt to win the second hole.

  7. Fans reminded of responsibilitiespublished at 18:26 BST 28 September

    Peter Scrivener
BBC Sport senior journalist at Bethpage

Don Rea, president of Ryder Cup organisers the PGA of America, has been talking to BBC Sport NI about the abuse Rory McIlroy, in particular, suffered on Saturday.

When asked directly about the words shouted to Rory, he replied: "I haven't heard that. I'm sure it's happened.

"It happened when we were over in Rome and Rory understands.

"I thought he handed the press conferences amazingly but things like that are going to happen and I don't know what was said but I do know golf is the engine of good."

He also said: "You got 50,000 people who get really excited. You get to a youth soccer game and people say the wrong things. We tell them booing the players doesn't make someone play worse, it typically makes them play better.

"And when our American players have to control the crowds that just distracts them from playing,

"So our message is cheer on the Americans like never before because that always helps them play better."

Alex: USA may have been a bit miffed initially about the envelope but the way things are going they may end up being grateful for the half.

Patrick: Tommy Fleetwood for the Nicklaus-Jacklin Award. Simple deserves it

Michael: With Europe crushing the USA, I can't help feel sorry for Keegan Bradley. He gave up playing to try and help the US win and has given everything in the US's cause. Now he faces becoming the poster boy of an American nightmare having played in Medinah as well.

Four blue, one red, two all square
  10. Straka attackpublished at 18:23 BST 28 September

    Spaun v Straka 1UP (1)

The big Austrian rolls his putt for three in and that's Europe in another!

  11. Back to all squarepublished at 18:23 BST 28 September

    Scheffler A/S McIlroy (4)

Rory McIlroy burns the edge of the hole with his attempt for the half.

    Win for the US.

  12. Rare miss from Rosepublished at 18:20 BST 28 September

    Young A/S Rose (6)

Almost identical play from these two, who drive it almost side by side on the fairway and then both hit it to seven feet on the green.

But when Cameron Young sinks his putt Justin Rose has a rare miss from this range to hand back his advantage as this one goes all square.

  13. Postpublished at 18:20 BST 28 September

    Scheffler v McIlroy 1UP (3)

Lovely touch from Rory McIlroy on that chip but it didn't quite grab enough and runs eight feet past. Will need that for the half.

Unless Scottie Scheffler holes his birdie putt of course.

  14. Match eightpublished at 18:20 BST 28 September

    Henley v Lowry (18:19 BST)

    Ryder CupImage source, Getty Images

Shane Lowry has been a lionheart for the Europeans in this year's Ryder Cup.

Against the backdrop of a feisty atmosphere the Irishman grafted on the greens in the fourballs with Rory McIlroy yesterday to earn a point against Cameron Young and Justin Thomas.

Lowry's putting could well prove crucial again against Russel Henley, who is pointless from two matches in the foursomes even though he's partnered with world number one Scottie Scheffler.

  15. Thomas comes up shortpublished at 18:19 BST 28 September

    Thomas v Fleetwood 2UP (5)

The US are just not getting any breaks at the moment.

Justin Thomas rolls a 20-foot putt towards the hole at the fifth to win it but the ball comes up a matter of inches short.

The American can hardly believe his luck.

  16. Postpublished at 18:18 BST 28 September

    Spaun v Straka

Super approach from Sepp Straka to eight feet on the first.

JJ Spaun drags his approach back to 15 feet.

    Chances for both.

  17. Postpublished at 18:16 BST 28 September

    Scheffler v McIlroy 1UP (3)

Both players hit 320-yard drives. As you do.

Rory McIlroy was about a foot too long and left and then skips down the slope off the side of the green. An awkward chip from way below the surface for him coming up.

Scottie Scheffler, from the semi-rough,to 20 feet.

  18. Fitzpatrick maintains two-hole advantagepublished at 18:16 BST 28 September

    DeChambeau v Fitzpatrick 2UP (4)

There are shades of Scotland's second trip at Italia 90 about this European team shirt.

Hopefully that is not a bad omen. It certainly does not seem to be hampering Matt Fitzpatrick, who tidies up from three feet on the fourth to remain two up.

  19. get involved

Get Involvedpublished at 18:15 BST 28 September

Kevin: Looks like Team USA overestimated the power of the home advantage and underestimated the power of the camaraderie and grit of Team Europe.

Andy: For all the preparation that goes into this event, how can they end up wearing basically the same kit on the final day?!

Sean: As someone who is half American, half English…. I am taking great pleasure in watching Europe humble the other half of me!!!

  20. Aberg ahead!published at 18:13 BST 28 September

    Cantlay v Aberg 1UP (2)

Ludvig Aberg joins the European party by draining a long putt at the second to take the lead against Patrick Cantlay.

We should call this ice-cool Swede Ludvig Cyborg as sometimes he just doesn't seem human - he certainly doesn't seem to feel any nerves.
