US captain involved as Rose wins hole after wayward shot

  1. Young two aheadpublished at 19:15 BST

    2UP Young v Rose (10)

No surprise really after Justin Rose made a hash of that hole that Cameron Young doubles his lead, but it's only with a par as the American is just happily mopping up with the growing number of Rose mistakes.

  2. Birdies on sixpublished at 19:14 BST

    Cantlay v Aberg 1UP (6)

After some scrappy golf on the last hole the standard is raised considerably here with both players sticking it close with their approach shots and both Patrick Cantlay and Ludvig Aberg making birdies.

That's a bit more like it.

  3. Bryson 'will take anything he can get'published at 19:14 BST

    DeChambeau v Fitzpatrick 4UP (8)

You’ll take anything you can get, whether it’s a mistake from your opponent or a good shot on your own.

  4. DeChambeau pulls a hole backpublished at 19:13 BST

Some cheer for Bryson DeChambeau at last with Matt Fitzpatrick delivering a couple of loose shots on the par-three eighth.

The Englishman finds the left bunker with a wayward tee shot and can't save par from 10 feet.

BDC is just the four holes back now. Is this the start of the comeback?

  5. Agonising for Thomaspublished at 19:12 BST

    Thomas v Fleetwood 2UP (9)

Justin Thomas grips the bridge of his nose with his thumb and forefinger and looks to the green in disbelief.

The American's just watched a birdie putt from 20 feet agonisingly come up an inch short of the hole.

    Tommy Fleetwood still two up.

Ben: I weirdly want only one of Rose or Tommy to win their points just so Dechambeau loses it for the Americans is a disastrous manner, would be a lovely finish to the competition

Scott: Bryson DeChambeau? Bryson DeShambles more like.

Jack: When will Bryson learn? Super pumped up this week, just reminds me of when he said Augusta was par 67 got him & then finish T34. Got to be able to stay calm in big pressure moments, big character takes over him too much.

Not much sympathy for Bryson then.

  7. Trouble for Rosepublished at 19:11 BST

    1UP Young v Rose (9)

Bunker trouble for Justin Rose on 10, as he finds one off the tee then hits the lip of it with a slight top from the sand.

It's not a bad lay-up though, despite being a par four, but his wedge approach then drops short and into another sand trap.

Cameron Young is on the green so you may as well pick that up Justin and move on...

  8. Rahm reduces arrearspublished at 19:09 BST

    1UP Schauffele v Rahm (5)

Jon Rahm reduces his arrears on the fifth as Xander Schauffele takes three on the dance floor.

Basically that's a carbon copy of the same unforced error that the Spaniard coughed up on the opening hole.

    Scheffler A/S McIlroy (7)

Scottie Scheffler's seven-iron squeezes on the front of the par-three eighth. Rory McIlroy fires his iron over the top of the flag - half a club too much but safe.

    Burns A/S MacIntyre (1)

Sam Burns has left his putting boots in Louisiana this week.

Misses a good chance to win the first.

  12. Escape for McIlroypublished at 19:05 BST

    Scheffler A/S McIlroy (7)

Scottie Scheffler can't hole his putt for three and Rory McIlroy holes his three-footer so they move to the eighth tee all square.

    Escape for McIlroy there.

Wonderful pitch from Rory McIlroy. Touch of class there. And every chance he escapes with a four.

Ben: Is it too late to resurrect the old Mitchell Johnson Ashes chant? "He putts to the left, he putts to the right...

Simon: Goes to show the value of team spirit and togetherness that we have and they simply don’t get

Jay: Tommy Fleetwood ....boring, but scoring!!!

  15. Young thwarts Rosepublished at 19:01 BST

    1UP Young v Rose (9)

It's a stunner of an approach to the ninth green from Justin Rose, but Cameron Young stops him in his tracks by holing out from 11 feet.

Rose knocks in his birdie but it's only for a half as he makes the turn one behind.

  16. Half chancepublished at 18:59 BST

    Cantlay v Aberg 1UP (5)

Ludving Aberg can't convert from 15 feet as he has the chance to double his lead over Patrick Cantlay but misses to stay just the one ahead.

Cantlay just a little sluggish here but you know if this match goes down the stretch then he usually comes alive.

  17. Fitzpatrick flyingpublished at 18:59 BST

    DeChambeau v Fitzpatrick 5UP (7)

Matt Fitzpatrick has made four birdies on his way to establishing a huge lead and now a par is sufficient to add to it.

    He is flying.

In contrast, Bryson DeChambeau's round is completely unravelling, a little like the United States' Ryder Cup hopes this week.

    Scheffler A/S McIlroy (6)

Rory McIlroy struggling on the seventh. Scottie Scheffler on the green and McIlroy is wide right in two - he'll need a good pitch and a good putt to half this.

  19. Pars on twopublished at 18:57 BST

    Griffin v Hojgaard (2)

Two fours on the second hole to keep Ben Griffin ahead in this match which, as it stands, will be merely be important for the final score rather than the result.

  20. 'Bryson just doesn't look good'published at 18:57 BST

    DeChambeau v Fitzpatrick 5UP (7)

    Shaun Micheel
2003 US PGA Championship winner on BBC Radio 5 Live at Bethpage Black

Bryson does not look like the same person he was on the first hole.

His smile’s turned upside down for a frown. He just doesn’t look good. His iron game has not been very sharp today, he’s not made any putts,

He’s come up against a pretty strong European player in Matt Fitzpatrick.
