    Manchester United's poor season has potentially damaging consequences for the worldwide appeal of the Premier League, according to the league's chief executive Richard Scudamore.

    He says the global popularity of English football will decline if United do not recover. "When your most popular club isn't doing as well, that costs you interest and audience in some places," Scudamore tells Bloomberg., external

    Leeds manager Brian McDermott has not been given any assurances by club owner Gulf Finance House Capital that his players will be paid this month. GFH Capital and prospective owner Massimo Cellino have been reported to be arguing over who will fund the wage bill for March after the Football League blocked the Italian's £25m takeover bid.

    Asked if his players would be unable to focus on Saturday's home league game against Doncaster if they had not been paid, McDermott says: "That's a hypothetical question, I can't answer that. I expect my players to be thoroughly professional and ready to play whatever the circumstances and get the right result."
