West Ham United manager Sam Allardyce has been talking in his final news conference of the season. The Hammers are 12th in the Premier League with one match to go.

"As a whole it's been a tough season. It's been rather unique in how it's panned out and we've had our ups and downs," he said.

"But we've delivered our goals to stay in the Premier League. We wanted to do a little better, but we're 12th at the moment and sustaining our position in the Barclays Premier League was critical to us."

Luton Town chief executive Gary Sweet says debate about how to improve English players is healthy, but suggested it is something that should have happened before the Football Association's commission announced their proposals.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 live's You Call programme, he said: "This is a healthy debate but if you look at the proposals and the method they were handled, supporters were not consulted in this process. Supporters Direct and FSF (Football Supporters' Federation) were not consulted.

"What we have here is a really healthy debate that should be heard but has been lost in the methodology."

"Roberto has done very well in his first season at @Everton - they've had a great campaign. They were close to qualifying for the Champions League and it will no doubt be a very, very tough game for us.

"Let's hope we can get a positive result and end our Premier League campaign on a high."

Sam Wallace of the Independent writes that the FA Commission's proposal for a B-team league "felt like a decision made on the hop".

"The B-team league feels like Greg Dyke's 39th-game moment. It was a step too far on a justification that was preposterously thin," Wallace writes., external

"Is the only way of guaranteeing a successful England team taking a sledgehammer to the lower leagues? Outside of Wembley, it was a struggle to find any support."

Former England defender Graeme Le Saux believes Roy Hodgson should include left-back Luke Shaw in his World Cup squad instead of Ashley Cole.

Southampton's Shaw, 18, made his England debut in March while Cole, 33, has 107 England caps despite limited league starts for Chelsea this season. Le Saux says Shaw's "composure and undoubted quality" and his age could give him the edge over Cole. Everton left-back Leighton Baines is likely to be first choice in Brazil.

"You still have to pick your best team but ultimately there has to be one eye on the future as well," says Le Saux.

Roberto Martinez also diplomatically offers a non-committal answer on speculation linking him with possibly becoming the next Tottenham manager, saying: "Any speculation I take as a real football compliment. Roberto Martinez speaks about the future of the club's loan players after the final game of the season.

The Toffees have Romelu Lukaku, Gareth Barry, Gerard Deulofeu, Lacina Traore on loan and he says: "I am sure people will agree that all four loans have been more than a success. I am sure all the fans will never forget their roles. Lacina is a different situation because of injury but I have been extremely, extremely satisfied with the performance of the players.

"I will speak with all the players. It is no different for Gareth Barry, Romelu Lukaku or any other at the club. Gareth has been an incredible footballer to have. It is no coincidence that we have had success with the young players when we have these kind of senior players to set the high standards."

The gathered media at Finch Farm have been filled up on bacon sandwiches and Everton boss Roberto Martinez gets the first of the 15 Premier League news conferences under way.

Martinez speaks first about the FA commission's proposal for a B-team league: "We need to be aware there is a big problem in developing young players in English football.

"The FA has come up with something I think is very exciting. B sides is something that works if you work at it properly. I would be in favour of it and we would all get the benefits. It is not straight away, because you would need relegation and promotion to take effect but then after you would see the benefit.

"The possibility of playing Championship football should also be considered and I think the age group should be increased because you get late developers - but it is healthy to talk about."

Clubs who violate Uefa's new Financial Fair Play rules should be thrown out of the Champions League, according to Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger.

Paris St-Germain and Manchester City face fines of £49m and caps on the size of their Champions League squads for breaches of the rules.

"You would think you accept the rules and you're in the competition or you don't accept the rules and you're not in the competition - then everybody would understand it," the Frenchman says.
