Mercedes will try a new 'megaphone' type exhaust at a test in Barcelona this week as the debate over engine noise continues in Formula 1.

The introduction of V6 turbo hybrid engines, which have replaced the screaming V8s, has led to criticism the sport has lost some its appeal.

The 'megaphone' device is designed to address that criticism. "If the fans want to have more noise, then we'll go for it," says Mercedes motorsport head Toto Wolff.

Former England goalkeeper Peter Shilton believes Roy Hodgson is right to leave Chelsea left-back Ashley Cole out of his World Cup squad.

"I watched Luke Shaw come on in the last game at Wembley and he just looked like a Rolls Royce to me. He could do everything," says Shilton, who won 125 caps between 1970 and 1990.

" I think Roy is doing the right thing. He's looking to this World Cup and beyond and he is trying to build a young team with players that can only improve."

Kaymer had held a three-shot lead on the 14th when play was suspended for 90 minutes because of a thunderstorm.

He double bogeyed the 15th but a superb curling 29-foot par putt on the 17th and par on the last saw him post a one-under 71 to win on 13 under.

Savage picks out Yaya Toure as City's star man, with the Ivorian midfield powerhouse finishing as their top league scorer with 20 goals.

But, as good as he has been, Toure is not the only reason City are champions, says Savage. "Players like Martin Demichelis, Edin Dzeko and Joe Hart, who were unpopular, out of favour or out of form earlier in the campaign, have emerged to make the difference."

City captain Vincent Kompany, who scored the second goal against West Ham, added: "We are not a team that wins trophies every now and again. If you want to be a big club this must be one of so many."
