Everton midfielder Gareth Barry can continue to compete at the highest level for the length of his recently signed three-year deal, says the club's former player Lee Carsley.
Barry, 33, made a loan move from Manchester City permanent during the summer after making 37 appearances in 2013-14.
"The year I left, there was a policy that over 30-year-old players didn't get more than a year's contract extension," says Carsley. "So to give Gareth Barry three years is testament to him as a player and his outstanding contribution last year.
"They obviously think he can play for three more years and so do I, he is still a good player."

"We are hoping that the deal can be formalised and finalised by Thursday," Everton boss Roberto Martinez said. "He can play on both wings, through the middle and has appreciation of space. Technically he is very gifted."
Chelsea need their summer signings to offer a cutting edge lacking in parts of the previous campaign, says the club's former defender Graeme Le Saux. The Blues were criticised late in the 2013-14 season for perceived negative tactics.
"They bought well and bought early," says Le Saux. "Cesc Fabregas has come in and is already dictating in his play, he looks influential in the team already.
"Last season around Christmas I thought they became a bit functional, with less flair. There wasn't enough. It will be interesting to see if they play with more dynamism.
"At times they lacked that proven goalscorer and Diego Costa has come in and started well. If on the first match, Costa is the main striker and Torres is on the bench, Torres has to respond to that both in his appearances and training."
Stoke City striker Jonathan Walters tells the Stoke Sentinel, external he could be on his way out of the Britannia.
"We now have a huge squad and I'm pretty sure the club will want to get players out," says the Ireland international. "There will be speculation because I haven't played as much and I see there have been rumours about myself and Peter Crouch.
"It's not for me to consider, it's for the club. But if the manager turns round and says we've got enough players and we are accepting an offer, what can you do?"

Jason Mohammad, Presenter, Final Score: "I'm going for it. This is the year that Arsenal can end the Manchester domination. Alexis Sanchez is a wonderful signing - he's given them pace and another attacking dimension. He will score goals. Add him to talents like Aaron Ramsey, Mesut Ozil, Jack Wilshere and Olivier Giroud and you have a team capable of winning the Premier League. Having seen LVG weave his magic with the Netherlands at the World Cup, he will guide Manchester United to second place. Chelsea will be too distracted by the drama and the desire to lift the Champions League.
"Nigel Pearson did a super job for Leicester City last season in the Championship - but look at what happened to Cardiff City the year before. They stormed the second tier then were relegated. I think Leicester City, Burnley and Sunderland will be relegated."

"Given the strength in depth of Manuel Pellegrini's squad it's hard for me to see past Manchester City being crowned champions again despite the restrictions that FFP has placed on transfer spending. Chelsea will undoubtedly be stronger with the additions of Diego Costa and Luis Felipe and I think they'll run City close.
"I'm expecting Manchester United to roar back into life under Louis van Gaal - but the squad he inherited is still undergoing improvements. A top-four finish will be a statement of intent on the direction the club are now heading on again.
"At the other end? Aston Villa could struggle this season if they pick up injuries to key players and may slip out of the league. West Brom's new boss Alan Irvine will need to get the very best out of his team if they are to avoid the drop. Finally, the step up to the Premier League may prove too much, too soon for Burnley."

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini says his squad is stronger than ever following the addition of five new players over the summer.
"We bought five very important players," the Chilean says. "Willy Caballero is a very good goalkeeper, I think the experience of Sagna, Fernando and Lampard will be very useful for our team. Mangala is a young player who will be very important in our team, so we have a strong squad in [terms of] defending, which for me was maybe our weakest point last season."
But Pellegrini says there are unlikely to be any more additions, with City's hands tied by Uefa's Financial Fair Play rules. "We've had a lot of problems with Financial Fair Play, with the restrictions on the amount of players that we can have in our squad," Pellegrini says. "I don't think that we are going to sign another player, because we cannot do it."

Is that the hand of Fleetwood Town chairman Andy Pilley we can see raised?
Pilley had a bad start to his side's Capital One Cup first-round encounter with Rotherham, turning up at the wrong ground. The Millers relocated in July 2012 from the Don Valley Arena in Sheffield to the New York Stadium in Rotherham. It seems that particular news had not spread to Lancashire!
