  2. 'We'll take 6-5 now, lads'published at 13:40 British Summer Time 13 August 2014

"At 6-5 you hope you can see the game out." It sounds like a quote from a Sunday league manager, doesn't it? Not Dagenham & Redbridge boss Wayne Burnett, who saw his side lose 4-2 on penalties after drawing 6-6 with Brentford in last night's Capital One Cup tie. After hitting the target 12 times between them in 120 minutes, it's no surprise a couple of penalties were a little wayward!

England's Joe Root believes his side must maintain their ruthless streak against India in the fifth Test which starts at the Oval on Friday after their comprehensive win at Old Trafford last weekend.

"When we got into strong positions we made sure we capitalised on them," says the Yorkshireman. "In previous months we haven't been doing that. We've played some really good cricket but it's not quite been coming together.

"These are the things that, if we want to become a really good side like we want to be, we're going to have to be really ruthless and really grasp the opportunities we get, like we did at Old Trafford because they are going to come back hard at us."

  4. Premier League launchpublished at 13:31 British Summer Time 13 August 2014

BBC Sport's Luke Reddy at the Premier League launch: "Former Chelsea full-back Graeme Le Saux expects Liverpool to fall out of the Premier League's top four at the expense of Manchester United this season.

"The Reds lost the league's top scorer - Luis Suarez - to Barcelona this summer and Le Saux believes his impact was wider than many recognise.

"I just worry for them a bit, not the goals but he was such a competitor and demanded so much of everyone around him," says the former England international

"You could see he had a desperation to win and I just wonder how much the team will miss that enthusiasm."

    David Ornstein
    BBC Sport

"A summer of squad restructuring leaves Chelsea looking the most balanced team, with strength in depth. Manchester City's focus on making a Champions League impact could take its toll, while Arsenal have the firepower to vie for top spot, but look vulnerable at the back and have yet to show they can sustain a challenge.

"The loss of Luis Suarez will be hard for Liverpool, and their raft of signings will need, but I see them finishing above Manchester United unless the Red Devils can make some quality signings before the transfer window closes."

Top four: Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool

Bottom three: West Brom, Burnley, Leicester

Garth Crooks and Leicester manager Nigel Pearson

BBC Sport's Luke Reddy at the Premier League launch: "If there is one thing a field full of footballers has highlighted, it is that former footballer turned BBC pundit Garth Crooks is a hurricane of a man.

"He ducks and weaves his way around, engaging with the great and the good at feverish pace and Nigel Pearson cannot make it to his getaway car quickly enough to avoid being collared. Pearson may end up missing his tube, but he leaves in hysterics. Garth kept his one liner until injury time.

"Will Pearson be as happy come May? Or will Leicester City's return to the top flight leave everyone at the club in need of a Garth pick-me-up?"

"One Premier League official describes the interviews conducted as "like speed dating." It has been fast and frenetic and a lot more fun than speed dating - I'd guess."
