    The Football Association says QPR defender Rio Ferdinand was harshly punished for comments he made on Twitter because he is a "role model".

    Ferdinand was banned for three matches and fined £25,000 for using the word "sket" - a promiscuous girl or woman.

    "With nearly 6m followers, Mr Ferdinand is clearly an experienced Twitter user and should know better," said the FA. "He is, without doubt, a role model for many young people. His responsibility is therefore that much greater."

    Norwich boss Neil Adams admits he is "hugely" concerned by his side's loss of form following Tuesday's 4-0 defeat by Middlesbrough.

    "After a heavy defeat and a performance that isn't good enough, we'll certainly be thinking about changes," Adams told BBC Radio Norfolk.

    Leicester Tigers and England prop Dan Cole will make his return from a long-term neck injury in the LV= Cup against Sale Sharks at Welford Road on Sunday.

    The 27-year-old has been out since January and had surgery in the summer.

    Tigers director of rugby Richard Cockerill told BBC Radio Leicester: "He will have some game time. He will play off the bench."

    Forward Patrick Bamford believes there are similarities between Middlesbrough and the Derby side he helped to the Championship play-offs last season.

    Bamford, 21, is on loan at the Riverside from Chelsea, and had a similar spell with the Rams last term.

    Boro are now second in the table, winning nine of 16 games, including Tuesday's 4-0 victory against Norwich.

    "The big thing at Derby was the squad togetherness and it's the same here, if not better," Bamford told BBC Tees. "It's a bigger squad but we're in it together and united as a team."

    Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe says his table-topping side are now the "scalp" wanted by the rest of the Championship.

    Tuesday evening's 2-0 win at Sheffield Wednesday put them top on goal difference from Middlesbrough, their next opponents.

    Maribor coach Ante Simundza says Chelsea's injury worries will not weaken the Premier League leaders and doesn't expect the Blues will "hold off" during this evening's Champions League clash.
