    Eilidh Child is targeting a World Championships medal next year following a hugely successful 2014.

    The 27-year-old 400m hurdler won European gold after sealing silver at her home Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

    "The big focus is the World Championships in Beijing [in August]," she told BBC Scotland. "I finished fifth in Moscow in 2013, so I'd really like to get on that podium. I was top three in all my races this year, so I can build on that."

    In a heartfelt series of tweets,, external Matthew Etherington retires from football.

    The former Peterborough, Tottenham, West Ham and Stoke winger, 33, says an ongoing back problem has ended hopes of finding a new club.

    "I have some amazing memories since the day I made my debut at just 15 years old," he tweets.

    "Thank you to all the great clubs I have played for and to the supporters. I have made some mistakes along the way but it has made me who I am today. I look at the past with pride and to the future with optimism."

    Sports promoter Barry Hearn says "too much self pity" is holding Scottish football back and believes it is "disgraceful" the country's top flight cannot attract a sponsor.

    Hearn, who has worked with boxing, snooker and darts, told a Scottish FA convention that "if you worked for me you'd be sacked" for being without sponsorship since May 2013.

    The draw for next year's Africa Cup of Nations is imminent in Equatorial Guinea.

    The tournament was meant to be hosted by Morocco but due to a breakout of the Ebola virus, will now take place in Equatorial Guinea from 17 January.

    Former France midfielder Zinedine Zidane says former team-mate Thierry Henry should bid farewell to the national team by playing in a friendly against Brazil.

    Henry has yet to make a decision about his future after leaving MLS team New York Red Bulls.

    French newspaper L'Equipe have started a campaign to get the former Arsenal striker to feature for his country for a final time in next year's friendly.

    In possibly the most predictable parting since Robbie Williams left Take That, Juan Cala has left Cardiff City.

    The Spaniard, 25, recently criticised the club for making him train with academy players and on leaving he has apologised to Bluebirds' owner Vincent Tan for derogatory comments.

    Cala was signed from Sevilla in January but made just one Championship appearance this season.

    "It's a 396-page report put together by some very reputable people and they have gone through this with a fine tooth comb.

    "The point is Bianchi did not slow down sufficiently when the yellow flags were up. Of course he hit a vehicle which was removing another car but there were also some issues on the car. Some of the Failsafe measures on the car did not cut out on impact, making it worse than it could have been."

    Marussia driver Bianchi, 25, suffered severe head injuries when he crashed at Suzuka in October but is no longer in an artificial coma and is breathing unaided.

    Rotherham midfielder Lee Frecklington signs a new two-year deal.

    The 29-year-old joined the Millers from Peterborough in January 2013 after a successful loan spell and has since helped them to two promotions.

    The former Lincoln City man has made 86 league appearances for the New York Stadium side, scoring 16 goals.

    The Formula 1 season will provisionally consist of 21 races next season, two more than in Lewis Hamilton's recent successful campaign.

    The two additional events will see a return of the Korean Grand Prix - last staged in 2013 - and a new race in Mexico.

    Team Bath have named New Zealand defender Bessie Manu in their squad for the 2015 Superleague season.

    The 28-year-old has been signed from ANZ Championship franchise Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic and becomes Bath's first overseas player.

    "It will be a tough challenge this year as nearly every franchise, like us, is trying to move on and think outside the box," said head coach Jess Thirlby.
