    Crewe Alexandra are hoping to re-sign free agent and striker Lauri Dalla Valle, who scored five goals in 10 games during a successful two-month loan spell at Gresty Road two years ago.

    The 23-year-old Finn left Belgian second-tier side Sint-Truiden in the summer and has been training at the League One club with a view to earning a deal.

    Emmanuel Petit has condemned apathy in France towards Thierry Henry and claimed the country would be better under German rule.

    A former team-mate of Henry at Monaco, Arsenal and in the France national team, Petit described the prevailing attitude towards the striker as "hypocritical and cowardly".

    It has been suggested that Henry should be afforded one last outing for France, as a farewell match, and Petit, 44, can see the merit but suspects he is in a minority.

    "Why not, but people don't like Thierry Henry," Petit said in an interview with the French website sports.fr. "How can you reproach Thierry Henry? His handball against Ireland? It helped us qualify for the World Cup in South Africa. He's done nothing wrong. France is hypocritical and cowardly."

    Chelsea's Diego Costa is suspended after picking up a fifth yellow card on Saturday and is likely to be replaced by either Loic Remy or Didier Drogba.

    Defender Nathan Ake (hamstring) missed the weekend game at Sunderland and is unlikely to be included.

    Tottenham defender Kyle Naughton is available after a two-match ban.

    Emmanuel Adebayor faces a late fitness test after a virus and a back problem, while Etienne Capoue and Danny Rose are also struggling with knocks.

    Mark Davis has said conditions at the UK Championship continue to be an issue and need to be addressed, but refused to blame the tables after a "lucky" second-round victory over Joe Perry.

    World number 19 Davis won a scrappy and tense encounter 6-5 on Tuesday night.

    "It was an awful match," Davis, 42, told BBC Sport. "There's no excuse missing easy balls, but there were a lot of kicks, and the cushions were flying off. The table was very difficult, which doesn't help."

    Sunderland remain stretched defensively with both Billy Jones and Patrick van Aanholt still on the sidelines.

    On-loan defender Sebastian Coates could make his first league start for the Black Cats.

    Man City captain Vincent Kompany is out with a hamstring injury, while fellow defender Eliaquim Mangala is serving a one-match ban.

    This could see Bacary Sagna shifting to centre-back or alternatively Dedryck Boyata could be handed a rare start.

    World Cup winner Rachael Burford says the England women's rugby side carry high hopes for Rio 2016 qualification.

    England, who made 20 players professional this summer, are Great Britain's representatives for the first rugby sevens qualifying stage.

    "Since we've gone full-time, there is big expectation on us," Burford said.

    "We're just very pleased to be in a position where we are full-time and train day in, day out. So looking on to Rio is the ultimate goal."

    Adam Peaty's year just gets better and better. The British teenager has set a new British 100m breaststroke record at the World Short Course Championships.

    The 19-year-old swam 57.02 seconds in his heat - taking half a second off fellow Briton Michael Jamieson's previous best time.

    Peaty, who holds four European and two Commonwealth titles, swims again in Wednesday's semi-final.

    Everton's James McCarthy and Steven Naismith are both struggling with hamstring injuries.

    Manager Roberto Martinez says Naismith has an "outside chance" of being involved, but is not expecting McCarthy to recover in time.

    Hull midfielder Tom Huddlestone should return to the side after being left out of the defeat to Manchester United.

    Gaston Ramirez is banned while striker Abel Hernandez has been on paternity leave in Uruguay and will not feature.

    The Swede, 38, won the last event in his season with a birdie on the last and wins the Golfer of the Month award despite American Brooks Koepka, 24, winning on the Tour for the first time at the Turkish Open.

    The results are in from our vote on who will be the Premier League's top scorer this season - and Manchester City's Sergio Aguero tops the 10 players we listed for you.

    Aguero, 26, has 12 goals in the league so far this season and gets 49.7% of the vote ahead of Diego Costa - who has 11 goals - on 33.5%.

    The 45-year-old replaces Berti Vogts who quit in October.

    Brazilian legend Rivaldo has taken to Instagram, external to attempt to sell the club he is president of.

    Mogi Mirim Esporte Clube play in the third tier of Brazilian football and judging by the fact the 42-year-old is calling on social media to tout his entity, you could get in there for a knock-down price.

    Rivaldo first played for Mogi Mirim in 1993, returning to finish his sparkling career there at the age of 41.

    Liverpool supporters' union The Spirit of Shankly has received a letter from the club's owner John Henry acknowledging recent protests against ticket prices.

    Fans held banners highlighting the rising cost of tickets at Saturday's fixture with Stoke and though Henry has replied, they claim such public displays of frustration will continue until a meeting is arranged between the union and the owner.

    Jay McKenna, Spirit of Shankly chairman, told the Liverpool Echo:, external "As far as we're concerned until they contact us and tell us there's a meeting we continue as we are doing."

    Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson believes the club have to keep Steven Gerrard "for many years to come".

    The 34-year-old club captain is considering a new contract offer but his place on the substitute bench against Stoke on Saturday sparked questions over his future role.

    A goal in Liverpool's victory at Leicester on Wednesday and a performance Henderson described as "outstanding" offered a timely reminder of his capabilities.

    "He's a massive player for us and a great leader," said vice-captain Henderson. "I hope he stays for many years to come."

    Mansfield Town caretaker boss Adam Murray has been interviewed for the vacant manager's position.

    Murray, 33, this week said he had misgivings about combining his playing role with managing the side.

    But the midfielder and assistant boss, who has been in charge since Paul Cox left in November, was one of several candidates interviewed on Tuesday.

    Former Forest manager Colin Calderwood and ex-Reds defender Brian Laws are among the favourites for the job.
