    Formula 1 driver Jules Bianchi did not slow down sufficiently to avoid losing control when he crashed at the Japanese GP, an FIA accident report has found.

    Marussia driver Bianchi, 25, suffered severe head injuries when he crashed into a recovery vehicle in wet conditions at Suzuka in October.

    The Clarets lose £7.6m in the 12 months, the same as they did a year earlier. Much of the figure is made up of bonuses paid on promotion.

    Formula 1's governing body the FIA has announced a provisional 21-race season, external in 2015 and has confirmed the scrapping of double points at season finale.

    Double points were introduced for the final race of 2014 to keep the championship alive for as long as possible but the move was criticised by drivers, teams and fans.

    Oh dear, double trouble. Alastair Cook is caught behind as England take on Sri Lanka and we at BBC Sport believe the captain could end up being suspended for his side's next match.

    Cook is going to be under scrutiny for a slow over rate when England were bowling and he has already been guilty of that offence this year, meaning one more transgression would earn a one-match ban. It is one the ICC will look at.

    Of more immediate concern, his dismissal on 34 leaves England 84-1 in pursuit of 242 from around 23 overs.

    McGill said it was "Christmas come early" to be facing an "absolute icon" after beating Nigel Bond in the previous round.

    A Bulgarian player who tried to hit a referee with a bottle after being sent off has been banned for 10 games by his country's football association.

    Lokomotiv Plovdiv defender Diyan Moldovanov, 29, confronted referee Stanislav Stavrov after the final whistle in their 1-1 league draw with Cherno More Varna on Saturday.

    The Bulgarian Football Union (BFU) also fined the player £3,200 (8,000 levs).

    British Olympic champion and much-hyped heavyweight Anthony Joshua fights Kevin Johnson on 31 January and the American has some wild views on the fight.

    Johnson, 35, has lost six of his 35 fights but has never been stopped, prompting hope Joshua will finally face an opponent who can stand up to his ferocious power.

    "I look forward to doing what I do best and that's beating Olympic guys," says Johnson. "It's a young lion versus an old lion. I'm not walking away from my herd."

    Joshua, with 10 knockouts from 10 fights, says: "He doesn't get stopped but he gets beat."

    Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak says the club have moved "beyond a period of heavy investment" needed to make them competitive.

    The Premier League champions are a step closer to breaking even, posting losses of £23m for the year to 31 May 2014.

    That figure includes a £16m fine City paid to Uefa for breaching Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations.

    "The club is where we hoped it would be when we began this transformation six years ago," Al Mubarak said.

    La Liga's all-time record scorer was struck near the corner flag during Barca celebrations when they netted an injury time winner at the Mestalla.

    The referee's match report said Messi "delayed his return to his half of the pitch after the goal was scored with the intention of wasting time".

    It says the Government has delivered "extremely positive", external news for horse racing in this country.

    Chancellor George Osborne announced the Government will proceed with a further consultation process on the replacement of the Horserace Betting Levy with a Racing Right early in 2015.

    "We have a landmark opportunity to secure a modern, fair and sustainable funding mechanism," says BHA chairman Steve Harman.

    The levy is a tax collected from bookmakers and invested back into horse racing.

    Daniel Ricciardo is confident he will be able to cope with the weight of expectation now on his shoulders at Red Bull following the departure of Sebastian Vettel.

    "The weight of expectation won't affect me," Ricciardo said. "But the reality is now I can win. People know I've - shall we say - got the goods.

    "So if I'm coming sixth and seventh when they feel the car should be fourth and fifth then that obviously isn't meeting expectations, but it honestly doesn't add any more pressure to me."

    Arsenal's Nacho Monreal and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are doubtful with knee problems, while Kieran Gibbs is struggling with a ankle injury.

    Goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny (hip) and Mikel Arteta (calf) are both still out.

    Southampton will be without Morgan Schneiderlin, who injured his thigh in Sunday's defeat to Manchester City.

    The midfielder could be replaced by Jack Cork, who has recovered from illness or Harry Reed could also be called upon.
