    On last week's criticism at Stoke railway station he says: "Society wants to win the next game and it's a permanent tribunal for everyone."     Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has not always seen eye to eye with Arsene Wenger, that famous touchline jostling in at Upton Park in 2006 being a prime example, but he has defended the Frenchman, who was subjected to abuse from Arsenal fans, external when boarding a train after last week's defeat at Stoke.

    "The incident at the train station was totally disrespectful," said Pardew, who takes his team to the Emirates on Saturday for a 17:30 GMT kick-off. "I think 90% of Arsenal fans would have been ashamed of that and we could get the backlash of it.

    "The crowd on Saturday will want to show how much they love him. After Sir Alex Ferguson he's the best manager in Premier League history. Jose Mourinho hasn't done enough yet."

    Meanwhile The Sun (subscription required), external report that Manchester United want to make David De Gea the richest goalkeeper in history to keep him out of the clutches of Real Madrid.

    The Spaniard, 24, who has 18 months left on his £60,000-a-week contract, will be offered a £36.4m five-year deal that even tops the package which neighbours City are about to agree with Joe Hart.

    With Real Madrid looking for a replacement for Iker Casillas, United will up De Gea's pay to £140,000 a week including bonuses.

    Some interesting lines from the newspapers this morning and the Daily Mirror, external report that Fernando Torres is to be offered for free around Premier League clubs this January - only four years after costing a British record £50m.

    Milan are seeking to cancel the 30-year-old Spaniard's two-year loan deal agreed with Chelsea in August and his former club Atletico Madrid have turned down the chance to take him back on loan in a swap deal which would have sent Italy winger Alessio Cerci to the San Siro.

I still feel a little rusty but that will come with time. By the next game hopefully I'll be sharp and fully fit."

    Tottenham only needed to avoid defeat in Besiktas to top their group, but after three pitch invasions at their previous Europa League match, there were two stoppages for floodlight failure as their second string side were beaten 1-0. In Monday's draw for the last 32, Spurs could now face one of the group winners, apart from Besiktas or Everton, or seeded Champions League teams including Zenit St Petersburg, managed by former boss Andre Villas-Boas.
