The Manchester United boss, always entertaining, will be answering questions at 15:30 GMT - we'll have what he says here.

  2. Stoke news conferencepublished at 15:05 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2015

A final line from Mark Hughes, about Stoke's injury list

The boss says Marc Muniesa has been struggling with a groin problem but trained today.

Same goes for Bojan, who is also back in training, while Victor Moses is "back and looking sharp".

Hughes added: "Whether he is fit enough to start or not, it is something that I will mull over. But credit to Chelsea because the rehab they have given him has been spot on."

  3. Stoke City press conferencepublished at 15:02 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2015

Mark Hughes is in bullish mood, saying his Stoke team are "in a real good place at the moment".

"We have had a tremendous festive period and we want to build upon that," he added.

"It's difficult to say how far we can go. We had a good season last time round and got up to ninth.

"If we could do that again then we would be delighted. My teams historically grow stronger as the season goes on, whereas many others burn brightly initially and then fade somewhat."

    Confidence, we like it.

Mark Hughes on Sunday's opponents Arsenal: "Arsene Wenger is very consistent in terms of the style he will play.

"On occasions away from home he has gone for two sitting midfielders, whereas at home he goes with one and compliments that with more attack-minded options.

"He has a few key players back too, so we know they will be very strong."

  5. Ex-England international May to retirepublished at 14:57 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2015

London Welsh team captain and former England international Tom May is to retire at the end of the season.

Centre May, 35, joined Welsh in 2013 and led them to promotion via the Championship play-offs last season.

He began his professional career at Newcastle Falcons, making his debut in March 1999, and went on to play for Toulon before joining Northampton.

"It's a tough decision to make because I've been playing for quite a while and it's what I've grown up knowing," said May, who has two England caps.

  6. Stoke news conferencepublished at 14:54 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2015

Asked if he would look for a replacement for Mame Diouf, who is off to the Africa Cup of Nations, Hughes said: "We understood that Mame wasn't going to be here for a minimum of three weeks.

"As a consequence of that we will keep our eyes open and if there is something that comes along that we feel will enhance the group then we will look to do something."

  7. Stoke news conferencepublished at 14:49 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2015

Stoke lost out to Inter Milan in the race to sign Bayern Munich winger Xherdan Shaqiri.

But Hughes said it showed the ambition of his club.

"We will pursue players who we feel that we can realistically get and Shaqiri was one of those. He slipped by the wayside, but we were firmly in the frame," said the Stoke boss.

"If you read what his agent said then you will see that we were serious contenders.

"We can take a lot of comfort from the fact that we can get these players in the room now and have serious conversations with them. Maybe that wasn't the case in the past."

  8. Stoke news conferencepublished at 14:47 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2015

First up a question for Hughes about new signing Philipp Wollscheid.

The 25-year-old Germany centre-back has arrived on loan from Bayer Leverkusen, with a view to making a permanent move in the summer.

"The timing of getting a new central defender wasn't what we anticipated, but we felt it was too big an opportunity not to take," said Hughes.

"He is a really good player, he is in good shape and he has arrived here in a good frame of mind.

"Having seen him in training this week he looks impressive. It is a big decision whether to throw him in at the deep end on Sunday, so we will wait and see."

Right, we're all done on the south coast - but there's no rest.

Next we're at Stoke, where Mark Hughes has just taken his seat to answer questions ahead of the Potters Premier League trip to Arsenal on Sunday.

Stoke beat Arsenal 3-2 in the reverse fixture and seem to get under the Gunners skin, so could be a tasty game this one.

  10. Southampton news conferencepublished at 14:39 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2015

A few more nuggets from Ronald Koeman.

He says about new signing Eljero Elia will be part of the squad which travels to Manchester United on Sunday.

"He will be part of the squad for this Sunday. The question is whether he's in shape to start the game," said the Saints gaffer.

"We know he didn't play in a long time, but to get that rhythm you need minutes - and we will give them."

Koeman also revealed he has given his players three days off this week, because "we lacked a bit of fitness" during the 1-1 FA Cup third round draw against Ipswich.

  11. Fabregas - 'I'm upset at Messi talk'published at 14:32 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2015

Cesc Fabregas has bristled at suggestions he might be involved in any Chelsea move to sign Lionel Messi.

Chelsea have been linked with a big-money swoop for the Argentinean following claims that the 27-year-old's relationship with his Barcelona coach Luis Enrique has broken down.

Talking on on Spanish radio, Fabregas said: "I'm upset that they say that I could be mediating for Messi to come to Chelsea. How can I be talking about contracts? I'm only a footballer.

"He (Messi) will do what makes him happiest. Personally, as his friend, colleague and footballer, if you gave me the chance to play with him again, I would welcome it."

"In my opinion, he's ready to play, but the player needs to be comfortable," said the boss.

  14. Southampton news conferencepublished at 14:18 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2015

Eljero Elia, a 27-year-old winger, is likely to go into the squad for Sunday's game with United, after joining Saints on loan from German side Werder Bremen until the end of the season.

Asked about the possibility of more business during the January transfer window, Koeman said: "Maybe we will bring in another - maybe - but there's no update."

  15. Southampton news conferencepublished at 14:16 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2015

Saints have another tough game ahead, at Manchester United on Sunday.

The Reds won 2-1 at the St Mary's Stadium earlier in the season, thanks to a brace from Robin van Persie - though Southampton were the better team on the night.

"It wasn't long ago we lost against Man United, and we lost because of our mistakes," said Koeman.

"We can beat Man United. I believe we can make it very difficult for them."

However, Koeman warned that United are playing well and improving. "If you analyse them over the last few weeks, you can see that they've grown up," he added.

  19. Manchester City news conferencepublished at 14:03 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2015

Manchester City visit struggling Everton on Saturday as they try to extend an unbeaten winning league run of 11 games, including nine wins.

"We have a tough game against a rival at Everton," says City boss Pellegrini. "Maybe they are not in their best moment but they have a very difficult team, they play very well with good players and a very good manager.

"If we want to continue in the same way, we must play in the same way if we want to win.

"We start now the second half of the season. Every game will be a final for all the teams involved in the fight for the title. Not only in the Premier League, it is the same in FA Cup or Champions League. If you don't win, you are out of the cup."
