They will play on four consecutive Saturdays from 15 August, starting with a trip to Dublin. A double header against Italy in Turin and Edinburgh follows before completing their preparations in Paris.

"Clearly our priority at the moment is the forthcoming Six Nations, however we are pleased to confirm four matches against top-quality international opposition ahead of the World Cup," says Scotland head coach Vern Cotter.

"The games will allow us to rotate and test a large group of players throughout these preparatory matches in what is the last opportunity for everyone to put their hand up for selection."

  26. Motherwell v Kilmarnock called off

    Football

Gusty winds have been blowing across the UK in recent days - and now a Scottish Premiership match has fallen foul of the weather.

Motherwell's top-flight match against Kilmarnock on Saturday has been postponed because of storm damage at Fir Park.

Several aluminium facings have blown off the side of the East Stand and continuing snow and high winds have hampered attempts to fix the problems.

"Sadly, it would be impossible to not only secure the panels that are visibly hanging loose, but also to check all others in the same area in time for kick-off on Saturday," says Motherwell's safety manager, Alan Marshall. "If another fell and hit someone, the consequences would be unthinkable."

The world number 12 has been forced to withdraw from the opening Grand Slam of the year, which begins in Melbourne on Monday. He was beaten by Stan Wawrinka in November's Davis Cup final where France lost to Switzerland.

"I should never have played the Davis Cup final," Tsonga is quoted by AFP as telling Europe 1 radio.

  34. Milwaukee 1-0 Thierry

    Basketball

    Milwaukee v new York Knicks

Thierry Henry doesn't seem the biggest fan of the Milwaukee Bucks mascot.

Maybe, as a former New York Red Bull, he was unwilling to fraternise with the enemy as the Bucks took on the Knicks in the NBA game in London last night.

But when the father is ex-England striker Ian Wright, the son is QPR winger Shaun Wright-Phillips and the boss is Harry Redknapp, then it is a little more exciting.

Earlier, QPR boss Redknapp reckoned that 33-year-old Wright-Phillips did not want to leave QPR on loan because he would have to take a pay cut.

"I know some things have been written and said about my contract situation. I've got 18 months left on my contract, I'm in no rush," he says in an online blog.

"I'm leaving that stuff to my agent and the people at the club, and I'm just thinking about my performances on the pitch.

England forward Defoe, 32, could face Spurs on Saturday as new club Sunderland travel to White Hart Lane.

"All the best for Jermain in his new era in his career. Always, we need to be focused on our players, but Defoe is a big finisher and a very good striker," says Pochettino.

City boss Manuel Pellegrini splashed out a fee which could rise up to £28m for Ivory Coast striker Wilfried Bony earlier this week. But is he willing to spend any more cash this January?

"We will see. At the moment we are not thinking of that," says the Chilean.

"I always say that the transfer window is open to the end of January so we will see what happens in future. But I think we have the squad for the rest of the season."

"It is a great place to play and I'm really looking forward to it."

"I'm working hard every day to show the manager that I can help. I want to prove myself here."

    Martinez

Toffees boss Roberto Martinez does not believe England midfielder Ross Barkley needs the experience of playing in the European Under-21s Championship finals this summer.

The 21-year-old was part of Roy Hodgson's squad at the 2014 World Cup, making three appearances in Brazil.

"We will speak with the FA. Ross Barkley has been involved in the best possible tournament with a senior side so I don't think the other tournaments can be a positive, not just for him but the rest of the squad," says the Spaniard.

"Those experiences at Under-21 level are to prepare you for the senior level. Once you get there I think you are blocking someone else's path."

"Apart from Aiden McGeady who is suspended for his sending off, it will be the same squad we had against West Ham.

"Tony Hibbert is the closest to coming back but we need to be careful to not push him too early, James McCarthy the same. Sylvain Distin should be training with the group tomorrow and we will assess him before the game so maybe he and Tony Hibbert have some chance."

  81. Chelsea news conference

    Jose Mourinho

    Jose Mourinho

On whether his team can put pressure on title rivals Manchester City, who play Arsenal on Sunday, by winning the day before: "I don't think that the big boys feel too much under pressure. We are both big boys and I don't think that the result of the other team affects either side.

"We both know we have a job to do and have to win matches. If we win tomorrow I don't think that will affect Manchester City."

On John Terry being set to pass Frank Lampard's record of appearances for Chelsea: "Chelsea is the only club of his career. He has had a couple of surgeries which meant he missed games. Frank Lampard started his career with West Ham and is now having games with Manchester City so I think it is normal."

  82. Everton news conference

    Roberto Martinez

Everton boss Roberto Martinez, whose team host West Brom on Monday, on transfer activity:

On Cameroon striker Samuel Eto'o, who has been linked to Sampdoria: "After the West Ham game we had a couple of enquiries but nothing concrete. With Samuel we will take another couple of weeks to decide the next step. I'd not rule anything out, it could be that he stays with us. We will see what is best for him and the club."

On a signing a goalkeeper with Tim Howard injured: "We are looking for the long term addition. I thought Joel had a very good performance in the cup and we probably need an extra bit of cover in that department. If that can be done in January but I'm not bringing someone in for the sake of it."

Is there any truth in speculation about Sheffield Wednesday keeper Keiren Westwood: "No, not at all."

  83. Chelsea news conference

    Jose Mourinho

What is his verdict on Manchester City signing Swansea's Wilfried Bony?

"Well done. He is a good player and a good striker.

"If they have the money and can spend the money and have no problems with Financial Fair Play, well done.

"They can only play with 11 though, unless the rules are different and they can play with 12. The rules are different for them in some areas, but not this one.

"If Bony plays and Dzeko is on the bench then I am happy with that. But to have Aguero, Jovetic, Bony and Dzeko is magnificent.

Asked what he meant by the different rules that apply to Manchester City: "You know what I mean."

  85. Chelsea news conference

    Jose Mourinho

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho on whether goalkeeper Petr Cech's performance against Newcastle has given him a tough decision when Thibaut Courtois returns to full fitness.

"I repeat, I have the two best goalkeepers in the Premier League. I can decide with the keepers in the same way as I decide with the other players. My decision against Newcastle was a simple decision because a 100% fit Petr Cech is better than an 85% fit Thibaut Courtois."

  86. Chelsea news conference

    Jose Mourinho

Jose Mourinho on the "campaign" he believes his side are up against:

"You could say that Eden Hazard is fouled more than any player in the Premier League. You can also say that we have the most shots and dominance, but still have the least penalties. You can say there is a discrepancy in that.

"Eden Hazard is still the same naive boy who was playing at youth level and for him to go to the floor needs to be something really nasty. He is getting no protection that is the reality."

On his injury news ahead of his side' match against Swansea: "Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois should be fit tomorrow, he might not be 100% but how many players are through the season?

"Cesar Azpilicueta is less bad than we thought and he was intelligent to stop when he felt that the big injury was coming. He will train with the team next week I think."

  87. Chelsea news conference

    Jose Mourinho

Jose Mourinho on January transfers: "I'm happy with the squad, it is not a big group but a good group. I'll be happy if nobody leaves or nobody comes.

Does he need defensive recruits after conceding five goals against Tottenham? "No. I have the two best goalkeepers in the premier league, I have fantastic defenders. The team defends very well. We conceded five in one game and that is better than conceding one each in five matches and losing five matches."

  88. Chelsea news conference

    Jose Mourinho

Blues boss Jose Mourinho is asked about the accuracy of a newspaper story that suggested he told Premier League official Phil Dowd that he was "too fat" to referee after the defeat at Spurs.

"I go to the referee's dressing room before and after the game. Before I went with both captains and the manager of the opposite team. What we speak there is between us and stays there.

"After the match you can go and sometimes the words are the normal ones - good luck for the next game, have a good rest, etc.

"Other times, like men and normal people, we discuss what happened in the game. With Phil he made a big mistake and he was not happy about the mistake."

So that, er, clears that one up.....

  89. Chelsea news conference

    Manager Jose Mourinho

"Now I am in conditions to control myself and a week ago I couldn't control my words so to avoid bigger problems I stayed away.

"I am not interested in the FA misconduct charge, I just ignore it and get on with my job.

"We are not against the referees, their job is not easy. I'm happy to admit my mistakes, so when I spoke with Kevin Friend and, realised it was my mistake and not his, I apologised.

"The reality is that every decision is going against us and the results are affected by that. But I want to put any doubts about the honesty of people beyond us totally."

  90. Chelsea news conference

    Radamel Falcao at Yeovil

BBC Sport's Simon Stone at Carrington: "If Radamel Falcao was hoping for some comfort from Louis van Gaal from that press conference, he didn't get it.

"He may have merit a private plane bringing him into Manchester on deadline day. He may be on an enormous salary of around £1million a month.

"He may have received rapturous applause from United's fans when he made his debut against this weekend's opponents QPR.

"He may be one of the biggest names in the game.

"But in stating he doesn't care about the price, players have to prove themselves, Van Gaal would appear to infer the Colombian has not done it.

"He was not even on the bench against Southampton last Sunday remember."

    Louis van Gaal

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal admits Queens Park Rangers's "long-ball" style has the ability to cause problems for his team this weekend.

Fourth-placed United travel to Loftus Road on Saturday to face the hosts, who are scrapping for Premier League survival.

"I think the players will do everything to beat Manchester United. I think it is always the same, because Manchester United is a big club," says the Dutchman.

"Every player and every team want to beat Manchester United. QPR have a playing style that is difficult for us, we have seen that already. They play a lot of long balls, they have strong strikers and we have to beat them in spite of that."

  95. 'Super League more attractive than NRL'

    Rugby League

Super League can be more attractive than the Australian NRL and the new World Club Series will provide an opportunity to prove it, believes Warrington coach Tony Smith.

The annual World Club Challenge is being expanded from a one-off clash into a series, which takes place next month, featuring the top three Super League teams against some of the cream of the NRL.

Australian Smith, whose team are one of the sides taking part, says: "I don't think we get enough credit for the quality of play that we do have in this country and this is a chance to prove something to the Australian community and public.

"Until you come over here and experience it, you don't realise how tough and exciting a competition it is. There's a contrasting style and I'd like to argue that at times some of ours is more exciting and attractive to watch."

The 28-year-old forward has scored just three goals since arriving from Monaco and was dropped from the squad for Sunday's defeat by Southampton.

"If a player costs £95million or £5,000, it doesn't make any difference. You have to prove yourself," says Van Gaal.

  99. Manchester United news conference

First up is a bit of team news. Netherlands striker Robin van Persie is a doubt for tomorrow's match at QPR with a "minor injury", says Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal.

Will he be fit for the trip to Loftus Road? "You have to wait and see," adds Van Gaal.

"He's a good player but when I said yes to him we expected Albert Adomah to be away for a month in the African Cup of Nations with Ghana and we didn't have Tomas Kalas on loan from Chelsea."

Merida signed for Atletico Madrid in May 2010 after turning down a contract extension with the Gunners, but is without a club after spells with Hercules and Brazilian side Atletico Paranaense.

Some Premier League managers reportedly blocked their players from travelling to St Georges Park for the event, forcing Hodgson to cancel, but Wenger insists he was not one of them.

"He is a good lad, he's not a minute's problem. He trains hard. I think he needs to move on. But he's not going to move when he's on a fantastic contract.

"It is not the boy's fault. If someone wants to give you a lot less money you're not going to move are you? Blackburn, Bolton, maybe Charlton, they've come in for him and he didn't want to know. He doesn't want to go on loan."

Remarkably he has only played six matches for the Polish champions (managed by ex-Manchester United defender Henning Berg by the way), but that has clearly been enough for Arsene Wenger to like what he has seen.

"I'm going to London to fulfill my dreams. I hope I will become an Arsenal player soon," Bielik tells Legia's official website.
