    Conference side Gateshead have signed winger Callum Roberts and striker Adam Campbell from Premier League side Newcastle United on 28-day youth loan deals.

    Campbell, 20, has made five substitute appearances for his parent club, in addition to loan spells at Carlisle, St Mirren and Fleetwood Town.

    Roberts, 17, was handed his first-team bow at Leicester City in the FA Cup having impressed at academy level.

    Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini says that attacker Stevan Jovetic will stay at the club despite the £28m signing of Swansea striker Wilfried Bony earlier this week.

    Pellegrini said that Bony is a replacement for Alvaro Negredo who has joined Valencia on a loan in September ahead of a move to the Spanish side.

    "Bony is replacing Alvaro, not Jovetic. Stevan is a v important player for us. " said Pellegrini.

    "We sold Alvaro because he had personal problems and did not want to continue here."

    Ipswich Town have signed Colchester United striker Freddie Sears for an undisclosed fee.

    The 24-year-old, whose Colchester contract was set to run out this summer, has agreed a deal until 2017.

    The former England Under-21 international began his career with West Ham and was tipped for big things after scoring the winning goal on his debut for the Hammers, aged 18, in a 2-1 Premier League victory over Blackburn in March 2008.

    He has scored 14 goals for the League One side this term.

    Sunderland have complete the signing of Jermain Defoe on a three-and-half year deal from Toronto FC.

    Jozy Altidore has moved in the opposite direction as part of the deal that has brought the 32-year-old former Tottenham and West Ham striker to the Stadium of Light.

    "It is a great club and I've always enjoyed coming up here and playing against Sunderland because of the stadium and the supporters," said Defoe.

    "It is a great place to play and I'm really looking forward to it."

    The Chilean led the defending champions to 16 points from a possible 18 as they moved closer to leaders Chelsea.
