    Fiorentina have shown an interest in Southampton anchorman Victor Wanyama according to an anonymous "close family member" quoted by the Nairobi News newspaper in his homeland of Kenya., external

    "Victor is aware of this interest, and he has even spoken to his brother McDonald Mariga [Parma's midfielder] who is based in Italy. But am not sure something can be worked out in January because we all know it is entirely not up to him," the source said.

    Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino says he is confident in his striking options after deciding not to offer Jermain Defoe the chance to return to the club.

    England forward Defoe, 32, could face Spurs on Saturday as new club Sunderland travel to White Hart Lane.

    "All the best for Jermain in his new era in his career. Always, we need to be focused on our players, but Defoe is a big finisher and a very good striker," says Pochettino.

    "He showed his quality here and in the last season at Toronto, but we have three great strikers and we are confident in our players."
