    Fifa presidential candidate Jerome Champagne does not yet have the letters of support he needs from five football associations with the deadline for his nomination to be accepted only 10 days away, the Frenchman said on Monday.

    "I do not yet have all the five letters," he wrote in a statement headed "The Moment of Truth".

    "The feeling exists that the final result of the election is set, and that it would be risky to sign them."

    Fifa vice-president Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein and unlikely candidate, former footballer David Ginola, also plan to stand against current president Sepp Blatter.

    As if things weren't tough enough for Hull City at the moment, it's got a little worse today with the news that defender James Chester will be out for eight to 10 weeks, external with a dislocated shoulder.

    Chester suffered the injury during Sunday's defeat at West Ham when he fell awkwardly in the first half.

    Hull are third-bottom of the Premier League.

    Liverpool are favourites to sign Ipswich teenage midfielder Teddy Bishop who has broken into the Championship team this season, making 18 appearances.

    The Daily Mirror, external reports that any deal is likely to go through in the summer after Ipswich told Liverpool and a host of other Premier League admirers that 18-year-old Bishop isn't going anywhere during the January window.

    Hats off to Shaun Murphy this morning, after he became only the 10th man to seal snookers Triple Crown (that's the World Championship, the UK Championship and the Masters, in case you're wondering).

    The 32-year-old thrashed Australian Neil Robertson 10-2 - then revealed he almost hung up his cue a year ago.

    With the Seahawks trailing 19-7 with five minutes left, some fans opted to leave - you can't blame them.

    Two touchdowns then put them in the lead before a late Packers field goal took the game into overtime.

    A 35-yard touchdown sealed a 28-22 victory for the Seahawks.

    As well as Ana Ivanovic - a defeat we told you about earlier - two-time Grand Slam champion Svetlana Kuznetsova, former Wimbledon finalist Sabine Lisicki, ninth seed Angelique Kerber, 16th seed Lucie Safarova, Swiss teenage sensation Belinda Bencic, Spain's Carla Suarez-Navarro and Russia's Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova have all been beaten in the opening round.

    Not much of a surprise this but Roger Federer has just completed a routine first round victory at the Australian Open.

    The Swiss master beat Yen-Hsun Lu 6-4 6-2 7-5 and will next face the winner of Juan Monaco v Simone Bolelli.

    Federer has never lost in the opening round Down Under and is attempting to become only the second man in Australian Open history to win five titles, after Roy Emerson.

    On another note, what is it with the players' shirts this year? Federer and Andy Murray are sporting a lurid green, while Rafael Nadal has gone for electric pink. Someone have a word.

    Northampton Town winger Ricky Holmes says he would like to extend his stay at the League Two club if parent club Portsmouth do not plan on playing him.

    Holmes told BBC Radio Northampton: "It was a long month being on the bench at Portsmouth. It's never really happened to me in my career. If I'm not going to play, I'm happy to stay here because it's been brilliant."

    The 27-year-old loanee scored the winner in the Cobblers' 1-0 victory over Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday.

    West Brom have had a bid turned down for Wigan winger Callum McManaman. The bid, believed to be in the region of £4m was made over the weekend.

    McManaman's present contract is not due to expire until 2017.
