"The one game that stands out is the Manchester United game, not because of the 3-0 defeat but because it was the one game Lucas didn't play. Brendan Rodgers made a few changes and brought his technical players back into the team.

"He has had a big effect on the team and he's got to stay there."

Tom Thrall: To all those complaining about Fantasy Football, I had Mirallas AND Baines.

Noah Lim: Mirallas penalty fully justified. Outfield players need goals for confidence. Give the poor man a break.

William Kearney: Can we agree not to mention the Trotta penalty miss anymore? It's still too painful

Of course William. And we definitely won't use the following photograph...

Adam Joseph: He's done with Everton, as if it wasn't obvious enough. Clearly the contract issues taking a toll. Bye bye Mirallas.

    Rugby Union

Former England star Will Greenwood has been talking to Radio 5live about the injury which looks likely to keep Manu Tuilagi out of the Six Nations, a big blow in World Cup year.

    Manu Tuilagi

"The European Champions Cup has been absolutely outstanding and it's given an opportunity for a lot of the English lads to stick their hands up - Luther Burrell, Brad Barritt is back again ... so I don't think out cupboard is as bare as people would like to make it."

  93. Paying the penalty

    de Guzman

Jonathan de Guzman - The Swansea midfielder won and converted a penalty for his side's fourth goal in their 5-0 Capital One Cup final win over Bradford - but not before a lengthy row with team-mate Nathan Dyer. The diminutive winger had already scored twice and could clearly be seen pleading "It's a hat-trick" as he attempted to prise the ball from De Guzman. Dyer was notably subdued in the celebrations after the goal.

  94. Paying the penalty

Paolo di Canio - When West Ham were awarded a spot-kick while trailing Bradford 4-2 in the Premier League in 2000, the ball was spotted by regular taker Frank Lampard only for Italian Di Canio to pull rank, re-placing the ball himself and tucking the ball away. He then continued the argument with Lampard as the pair returned to the halfway line. Joe Cole then equalised, before Lampard, rather fittingly, scored to earn a remarkable 5-4 win.

    Di Canio
  95. Paying the penalty

As there's plenty of talk about Kevin Mirallas' missed penalty in Everton's goalless draw with West Brom - after he naughtily refused to let spot-kick regular Leighton Baines take it - we thought we'd take a quick look at some other entertaining disputes from 12 yards...

    Marcello Trotta

Marcello Trotta - The striker was on loan at Brentford from Fulham when their battle for promotion from League One in 2013 came down to an injury-time penalty against Doncaster. 98. Get involved - penalty capers

We are asking for your thoughts on Everton midfielder Kevin Mirallas's controversial penalty at Goodison Park last night.

Simon Kimbrell: When your regular penalty taker has a 14 out of 15 success rate then it doesn't matter who you are, put your ego away and let the guy take it.

Mark Yeldham: Kasami was fined for the same thing Vs Chelsea in the league cup. Missed and Fulham went out on pens ironically

Andrew Braid: You'd only describe Mirallas' decision to take the penalty as wrong because he missed. If he scored it would have been right.

Chris Robertson: I'm livid because I have Baines in my fantasy team!

Her knees must have been a right state afterwards.

  103. Get involved - penalty capers

So then, we've done quite a bit of work so far, so much in fact our fingers are hurting.

We could do with a little help, which is where you come in.

As it seems to be the big talking point today, we want your thoughts on Everton midfielder Kevin Mirallas's penalty and substitution at Goodison Park last night.

    Tennis, and footie too!

World number eight and self-confessed Liverpool fanatic Caroline Wozniacki has lamented the departure of another number eight - describing Steven Gerrard's impending exit from the Merseyside club as "sad".

The Liverpool skipper announced earlier in the month that he was moving to Major Soccer League champions Los Angeles Galaxy in the summer.

    Caroline Wozniacki

"I'm obviously sad. I think Stevie has done so much for the team over the years," Wozniacki told reporters after opening her Australian Open campaign with a 7-6 6-2 victory over American Taylor Townsend.

"He's a legend. I'm going to have my Stevie G jerseys hanging somewhere. I'll have to make a trip probably to L.A. to watch him again."

She's into the second round, though despite her standing in the game, Williams hasn't got a great recent record in Australia - she has not been beyond the last eight since 2010.

  113. Toothless Tiger

One of the more light-hearted stories of the day - well, not for Tiger Woods but certainly for the rest of us - concerns the American superstar golfer and his rather painful brush with a camera.

    Tiger Woods

The former world number one golfer decided to surprise his girlfriend of two years Lindsey Vonn by turning up to watch her compete in a World Cup alpine skiing event in Italy. But then things took a turn for the worse.

"During a crush of photographers at the awards' podium, a media member with a shoulder-mounted video camera pushed and surged towards the stage, turned and hit Tiger Woods in the mouth," his agent Mark Steinberg said. "Woods's tooth was knocked out by the incident."

Ouch. On the upside Vonn won so at least she was smiling.

    Well that didn't take long.

England, in sublime one-day form - and it's not too often we've been able to say that in recent times - have just wrapped up a remarkably straightforward victory over India in the ODI tri-series.

Chasing India's 153 all out, England reached their target in just 27.3 overs, Ian Bell finishing unbeaten on 88 and James Taylor hitting 56.

    Simples.

  119. Tuesday's back pages

    The Sun

No surprise that The Sun have gone with the Everton Kevin Mirallas penalty row. As we've already mentioned, the Belgian refused to give the ball to regular taker Leighton Baines during the goalless draw with West Brom ... then promptly missed, and was subbed at half-time.

  120. 'Substitution not related'

    Football

All the focus after the Everton game was on the penalty, not the game.

Kevin Mirallas was substituted at half-time, but Toffees boss Roberto Martinez insisted it was nothing to do with the spot kick row.

"Kevin felt his hamstring was getting sensitive. It was a precaution," the Everton boss told BBC Radio 5 live.

"They are not related. The talking point is because we missed it."

  121. Spot of bother

    Football

No doubting what the big story in football is from overnight ... the give-us-that-ball, not-a-chance-mate-I'm-having-it row from Goodison Park.

    Kevin Mirallas

Kevin Mirallasinsisted on taking a penalty during Everton's goalless draw with West Brom, despite the fact regular pen taker Leighton Baines was on the pitch.

Embarrassingly for Mirallas, and very annoyingly for Toffees boss Roberto Martinez, the Belgian dragged it wide.

Bet it was awkward in the dressing room afterwards.

    Paula Radcliffe

"I'm not under any illusions that I'll be able to complete at the top level of the field. I fully recognise my body is not the same body it was. I'm never going to hang up my running shoes, either. This is the last one I'm going to train full time for, but I'm always going to be running.

    Heather Watson

"On Monday I woke up not feeling that great, just kind of bloated and weak and not that good, and I feel like that today," she said. "I just struggled on the court to have energy."

Watson is confident it isn't a return of the glandular fever she suffered from in 2013. Let's hope not.

British number one Watson lost 6-4 6-0 to Bulgaria's Tsvetana Pironkova, while Edmund was beaten 6-4 6-4 6-3 by American Steve Johnson.

All of which means that despite the fact the tournament is only two-days-old, Andy Murray is the sole British representative left.
