Heard the one about the player who once turned down Jose Mourinho? Bradford City winger Filipe Morais rejected a contract offer from the Chelsea boss in search of regular first-team football. Tomorrow, they will face each other in the FA Cup fourth round at Stamford Bridge.

Morais played in Mourinho's first match as Chelsea manager in 2004, a pre-season friendly at Oxford United. The 29-year-old recalls: "When he first came in, he got me straight in the first team group and got me really involved. He was fantastic with me and it will be nice to see him again and say hello."

That's just one of several intriguing FA Cup tales ahead of this weekend's fourth-round ties. Gary Rose has collected the best of them together in a piece for the BBC Sport website.

Asked if there would be any more players coming in following the arrival of winger Carles Gil from Valencia, Lambert told a news conference: "The way it's looking at the moment, no.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino was coy when asked about any transfer movement this month, saying only "you never know in football".

The club's head of media, Jamie Dixon, said: "It was all taken in good fun but then we did have to appreciate that it was blurring the waters for everyone else on the page. We have set up a Hungarian Magpies page, which is proving quite popular so hopefully that'll take some of the traffic away."

"Any potential targets are proving to be difficult. It is very much a case of stalemate," Pearson said. "The temptation in the window is to do business you may not always do, but we will try to do what's right for where we are at the moment."

  18. Protect our own, says Allardycepublished at 14:19 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2015

Sam Allardyce and Arsene Wenger would make unlikely bedfellows, so it is little surprise that the pair disagree over the issue of work permits in football.

While Arsenal manager Wenger has called for them to be scrapped, his West Ham counterpart is having none of it.

"I don't agree at all," he said. "That [abolishing the work permit rule] for me, as an Englishman, is a real no-no. Protect your own. We very rarely do it in this country and haven't done it up until now."
