    The Yorkshire Evening Post's chief football writer Phil Hay, external reports that Massimo Cellino will announce his resignation as Leeds United president today following a week of negotiations with the Football League.

    Cellino was formally banned as owner of Leeds by the league on Monday, but has not yet stepped down from the board of directors.

    BBC World Service's Alex South: "I've been speaking to the French team of the World Health Organisation in Malabo, who've made the decision not to go back to the stadium on Saturday to screen for Ebola, due to fears over their safety.

    "There are two other WHO teams in the city. One from Egypt and one from Equatorial Guinea, who are yet to say whether they will attend the matches and carry on the screening process."

    During the Ivory Coast v Guinea game on Tuesday, WHO staff were forced inside the stadium as fans surged towards the gates to try and get in. Police were called and pushed the supporters back using batons and cattle prods.

    Germany forward Lukas Podolski has confirmed he intends to retire from international football after Euro 2016.

    The 29-year-old former Arsenal player has won 121 caps since his debut in 2004, and the finals in France would be the Inter Milan player's fourth European Championships.

    "The European Championships will be the last major tournament for me," the 2014 World Cup winner told German newspaper Bild. "I have already achieved my main goal of winning the World Cup. No one can take that away from me."

    Rafael Nadal is coasting through his third-round match against unseeded Dudi Sela of Israel at the Australian Open. The 2009 champion, seeded third, has gone 6-1 6-0 up in no time. In the words of the tournament's Twitter feed: "Nadal's playing like he's 100-foot tall."

    Caretaker manager Kenny McDowall has admitted he needs a break from Rangers after resigning following a turbulent four games in charge.

    Ally McCoist's former assistant is intending to work his 12-month notice period but realises his eight-year stay at the club could be ended sooner than that.

    "It wasn't an easy decision but the last four years have been tough," McDowall said. "It was time to step aside. It does take its toll on you. I will have a break probably, but we will see."

    The last Asian Cup quarter-final is under way in Sydney, and it's the United Arab Emirates who hold a surprise 1-0 half-time lead over Japan thanks to a tidy seventh-minute finish from Ali Mabkhout, who controlled a dropping ball before driving it across the keeper and into the far corner. The winners face hosts Australia in Tuesday's semi-final in Newcastle.

    An extraordinary finish to the Asian Cup quarter-final in Canberra, where Iraq beat Iran 7-6 on penalties after a 3-3 draw. Iraq captain Younis Mahmoud, needing to score to keep his team in the competition at 4-3 down, responded with a chipped effort reminiscent of Antonin Panenka's winning kick for Czechoslovakia against West Germany in the 1976 European Championship final. Mahmoud is currently without a club. Will an opportunity beckon now?

    Iraq will now face South Korea in the semi-finals in Sydney on Monday.
