"Aston Villa's initial move for Liverpool striker Rickie Lambert met with a cool response but they may not have quite given up yet - and a straight cash offer of around £5m might just tempt the Reds to change their stance on the 32-year-old.

"Questions. Will Lambert want to leave his boyhood club after only signing in a £4m deal from Southampton in the summer? And are Liverpool taking a risk with Daniel Sturridge only just back from long-term injury?"

    West Ham

BBC World Service's John Bennett: "Senegal international Kara Mbodj of Genk is being linked with a move to West Ham United. I've just spoken to the Genk manager Alex Mcleish.

"The player's agent claims that West Ham have made an offer for Mbodj but Mcleish says that as far as he is aware Mbodj will be staying at Genk until at least the end of the season, although he admits that it is the Sporting Director who deals with transfers at the club.

"Mbodj has just returned from the Africa Cup of Nations where he was one of Senegal's stand out players. The 25 year-old scored in the 1-1 draw against South Africa."

Some moves that may be still on the table as we approach the deadline:

    • Crystal Palace are close to re-signing Wilfried Zaha from Manchester United. This deal is £3m rising to £6m on a five-and-a-half-year contract. Manchester United have a decent sell-on clause.

    • It is also possible Palace will sign Bolton winger Lee Chung-yong.

    • Chelsea are expected to sign Juan Cuadrado from Fiorentina.

    • Tottenham winger Aaron Lennon is expected to move tonight, with Stoke and Hull among his suitors.

    • Birmingham have rejected an improved £5m bid from Championship rivals AFC Bournemouth for teenage winger Demarai Gray.

"Hull vice-chairman Ehab Allam is still here at the KC Stadium and manager Steve Bruce is still in Paris as the Tigers try and land their top target Dame N'Doye from Lokomotiv Moscow.

"Everything is being done to try to secure the permanent transfer of the 29-year-old Senegal international striker. Hull also have one domestic loan still available.

"In terms of players leaving, there is plenty of interest from clubs keen to take Tom Ince on loan until the end of the season, but any potential transfer of the 23-year-old is dependent on players coming in at the KC Stadium."

Today Fifa Interactive World Cup 2014 Grand Final competitor David Bytheway and Football Manager expert Alex Stewart will be providing insight and analysis of players involved in deals from a gamer's perspective.

"If Football Manager is anything to go by (insert witty response here) then Bolton may have pulled off something of a coup with Slavchev. He shows remarkably consistent development as an all-round midfielder with naturally high levels of fitness. As a straight comparison, in the game he is better than Jay Spearing."

He's no Bjorn Heidenstrom though is he Alex?

BONG! The clock hits six in the UK and that means there are five hours left of the January transfer window.

It's been a slow day but the heat is just starting to rise. Here are a few key moves so far:

  16. Lennon to QPR?published at 17:55 Greenwich Mean Time 2 February 2015

There has been speculation over Spurs winger Aaron Lennon and it seems someone has heard a whisper. Here is what it says on the player's Wikipedia page:, external

"On 2 February 2015, Lennon signed a two year deal at Queens Park Rangers, rejecting contracts from Stoke City and Hull City respectively. The fee demanded was around 5.5 million, but Queens Park Rangers manage to only pay around 4 million pound plus performance based add-ons. Lennon played under Q.P.R manager Harry Redknapp whilst he was manager of previous club and London rivals, Tottenham Hotspur."

Wild speculation. We expect Lennon to be on the move tonight though.

  17. Schurrle for Cuadrado?published at 17:51 Greenwich Mean Time 2 February 2015

Dylan Marshall: Sad to see Schurrle go but the move was best for all parties. Hope he proves a pest for Bayern and Cuadrado fits in.

Rob Stileman: As a Chelsea fan I'm sad to see Schurrle go but we've got a good price for him and Cuadrado seems like a decent replacement

Yao Kuasi: Schurrle was too inconsistent but always a goal threat. So excited for Cuadrado though. Amazing WC and lightning quick!

  18. DONE DEALpublished at 17:50 Greenwich Mean Time 2 February 2015

Another signing at Chesterfield, the third in the space of a couple of hours for the League One side. They have offset the probable loss of top scorer Eoin Doyle - who is set to join Cardiff - by bringing in Sheffield Wednesday striker Caolan Lavery on loan until 7 March.
